I would second this. The customer support can be easily described as the most evasive and consumer hostile I've ever encountered. I've spent >2 months trying to get the poor battery life on my S740 fixed. It gets at most 1/3 what the advertised runtime is(4hrs, instead of 11). I've spent the last 2 weeks hammering every channel of communication simply to get any response from them. Emailing, web forms, forums, Facebook, WhatsApp (every time they give me the telephone number and hang up on me). They just literally completely ignore me. The only time I get any response is when I telephone them, and they say "yep, we'll collect it". Then nothing happens, and I spend weeks trying to chase them for any info or update. It took 3 attempts to get the thing collected. I'd reached the point of filing a PayPal dispute case, and wonder if this is why they actually collected this time.. Couple this with the first few weeks of trying to explain (in great detail) to the support person that the advertised runtime is supposed to be when it is being lightly used. He was trying to convince me that the 11 hour battery life is for when the laptop is shutdown (yes, really). He even (apparently) escalated it to an engineer, who supposedly "confirmed" what he thought. So now I'm expecting them to throw it back at me and say "it's fine". It seems Lenovo have outsourced their support to far east (eg India), and the support personnel seem to have found a way to game the system to boost their performance metrics by simply ignoring customers. I can't even find out how to make a complaint! No one will tell me! So yeah, buyer beware. I wouldn't touch Lenovo with a barge pole.

How does this compare with The Lenovo Yoga C640 (i7 \ 8GB \ 512GB SSD \ 13.3" fullHD) on offer at Costco for £684? Worth the extra for the processor and SSD upgrade?

rdr12

That's alright then, just know alot of them have had long order times

cyberr2

This laptop ships in 1-2 business days, mine arrived within 3 days of ordering

rdr12

Terrible customer service but a good deal if you don't mind the risk and you will be lucky if you get this by the end of July, if it says 6 weeks delivery it's more like 3 months

I just got reply from CS and they confirmed that my battery is fine. It actually has more than 100% expected battery capacity loool Vantage is displaying an incorrect msg apparently and I have been advised to ignore it... You can try running a battery report and see? Should easily be able to Google how to do it :)

KingBun

Usually lasts a good few hours... Im hoping it's just some error in Vantage and the laptop is actuary fine! Charged to 100% despite the error...

keisiuho

that's odd... how long does your laptop last with normal use? i have around 7-8hrs so far which i am happy with. One night it went from 7x% to 10% overnight in sleep mode but the other night it was fine, just losing about several %-age points. I have submitted a help ticket through customer service - hope they can come back with something useful.

basergorkobal

Well mine is going back. As much as I like it, there's just too many issues it seems. Worst of all is the power button. Works half the time. The fan produces a very annoying high frequency noise. It seems to kick in a fair bit I think based on how many CPU cores are clocking up. The bottom, plastic half of the laptop seems very flimsy and bendy. Overall it doesn't feel like it's going to last.

KingBun

Hmm I love the laptop and I just checked my battery status. It says "battery failed due to normal wear. The battery cannot be charged. Replace the battery" But it IS charging? How strange... (:I

Thanks for the update. I got properly scared off from Lenovo after my experience. Now i have a MacBook Pro and i'm not even an Apple fan.

superleeds27

Quick update. Laptop came back today after been with them since Wednesday of last week (Not bad considering the current circumstances) was done by their senior support team apparently. Full new lid and screen, warranty extended until May 2021 as a good will gesture. So far so good, doing a full reset then will have a proper look. It's been a bit of a nightmare really, but, we've eventually got there. I'll probably look at taking out the maximum extended warranty possible with Lenovo for piece of mind. Their turnaround times are really impressive for a 'Standard warranty' service. Sent and back within 5 days.

Anyone else thinks this is a better option compared to the galaxy tab s6 as a media consumption device and for some light work? The s6 may be faster but it would be costing close to 800 (with keyboard cover)...Any suggestion here??

EndlessWaves

This laptop is getting 12 hours out of a 60Wh battery. That's the same battery size and runtime as the current Intel-powered Macbook Pro 13" or AMD-powered Thinkpad T495s which aren't exactly designed to be power sipping frugal models. The best x86 laptops will run 20-30% longer on the same capacity battery than this one. The iPad pro's hardware is interesting, although of somewhat uncertain performance as we haven't seen much in the way of computationally demanding windows/mac OS apps being ported. Photoshop made the transition a month or so ago and while I haven't seen any benchmarks yet, the initial rumblings seemed to suggest the A12X was at least approaching x86-levels of competence. It's something to keep an eye on, but until we get a better idea on how it stacks up in terms of capability it's too early to herald it as the next big thing.

sam_of_london

Their unique selling point can be long battery life , like in mobile phones . AMD and Intel only seem interested in power hungry CPUs. Fanless laptops and tablet PCs are very limited and low performance as on now but Apple iPad Pro is forcing Microsoft to think again or lose market share. As Microsoft Edge got its own Arm version, I think Microsoft has the power to create Arm version of its apps on Microsoft store and not repeat mistakes of the past, when everything ran on emulation I would not mind buying Surface Pro X if it was cheaper and had 5G modem.

EndlessWaves

And what makes you pretty sure? Previous changes of this calibre haven't been quick. The Windows ecosystem has never had to support a new architecture. Mac OS did, but Apple were able to eliminate PowerPC hardware entirely so that's not comparable. I guess something like HiDPI screens are probably a good comparison. Most programs had some basic compatibility while some were broken entirely. I don't own one yet but I gather they've gotten to the mostly sorted stage in the last year or so. The first HiDPI screens came onto the market circa 2013 so that's around 5 years. And ARM laptops don't currently have that momentum. Unless they can offer a unique selling point there's a good chance they won't even stick around.

sisqoboy

Yes, I agree with you. This is an offer which is definitely not for everyone however there are great benefits as you mentioned. Regarding to the compatibility issues what the user might going to face to: nowadays everything goes so fast. Even if there is going to be issue with compatibility I am pretty sure they will fix that within a very short or reasonable time.

Good God that's the same specs and same price I paid for my tab 2 5 years ago! That was a decent price back then but this is a terrible price now, they should have cleared this stock for about 60 quid last year.

Have to agree. Hardly used my last version tab 2 and with all the software issues it is now a brick. Wouldn't buy another lenovo tablet ever again.

There is no software support updates. These were very good specs but let down by very poor lack of support. I have two of these but one is now so clitchy and does not charge that well is really not worth trying. There is not even android hack rom for these ones. Avoid..

Very useful info and a very poor service from lenovo....

dante2000

I would advise to thing twice before buying a lenovo product. I bought a 730 which turns out has a design fault. I also bought the 5 business day on-site warranty. Well, Lenovo support say they only need to deal with the inside part of the laptop like memory, cpu, etc. They replied to the email 9 days after I wrote it, all this while I had a 5 business day extra warranty. They admitted there is a manufacturing fault and they sent out extra hinges and a technician was supposed to contact me to arrange an onsite repair. That never happened. I asked to escalate the issue, I was given an email address where I can complain. Obviously nobody replies to the emails. Their support person is at such a low level of intelligence that I needed to repeat 5 times what I wanted while he seriously lacked training. So as a piece of advise: stay away. The laptop is sold by Digital river Ireland which are not a lot better. When contacting them, it took me 4-5 emails to explain that there is a design fault and they as a seller are responsible. Now we are at the "we contacted our back office and waiting for an answer but we do not know how long it will take". It seems like my next step is my credit provider...

mikeyfive

It's not 4k and you can't upgrade the RAM.

The c740 has 8GB doesn’t it? It depends on your needs. If you browse the web, use Netflix/Ms office email (light tasks) I would say 8GB faster is more than enough and a better option. If you want to render a video and play games at the same time then you would benefit from the extra ram, I wouldn’t recommend gaming on these laptops though as the cooling doesn’t look suited for longevity.

It's easy to fix if you are willing to open up. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. The connector on the end of the ribbon that attaches to the board is a really dodgy fit. Remove the connector and reconnect securely and try turning on and moving screen before reassembly. When you can move screen all the way round and back again without glitches re-assemble.

Running linux on it has given new lease of life to old(ish) machine.

Clicked this to post the same thing. Warranty ran out and the issue was never resolved.

I have this it is great. The only issue is the battery only last 4 - 5 hours. I suppose if you use it in a pretty bright location it could appear dim.

A nice and light 2-1 device. Pen included. This is the model with the 8265U i5 CPU. For an extra £62 you can add a 5 business days on site warranty which I would recommend. I boug… Read more

The reviewd model was the top of the range euro version, priced at £825. Yes, that has an IPS display. In the UK, we get the lower spec and we always pay more for the interior version like the one from Costco. It's total BS. £630 and no IPS display is a joke. Well, it got a good review here: notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-IdeaPad-S340-i7-8550U-MX230-Laptop-Review.423736.0.html Possible it's one of the increasingly many machines these days with a panel and SSD lottery - multiple parts suppliers, not all to the same quality (fierce)

Buy the £600 Acer spin 5 or what ever it's better, just don't buy the Lenovo S340, it has a cheap out dim TN screen, same type of display you'd get on a £280 laptop. Terrible value for a £630 laptop. And that is their new range? What a joke. (poo)

This is a different type of device. This has a digital pen and the screen can be flipped back so you can actually write on it. The costco one has better specs however that is a laptop. BTW costco has a 90 days return policy for any reason as far as I know.
