The absolute nerve of J&J to use "ocean protection" as an excuse to downgrade the materials and charge the same money.

Cos we all throw our cotton buds in the ocean first thing in the morning from our bedrooms and bathrooms do't we?
Really torn about the new paper ones, I understand why it's just they are rubbish now and bend so pretty useless
Edited by: "fattyflumpalump" 7th Feb
I bought from Amazon 6 for £3 less 5% for S&S. Not worth any more now they are paper and weak. Certainly not worth 90p.
The sneaky penny pinching mugs now make them in paper not plastic. Took away the edge of it being the best cotton bud. Now, it falls into the budget category, like all the others.

Heat added but have to agree with previous comments. They have replaced the blue plastic with a white paper stick. Very good they have replaced them as obviously there are a load of incredibly dumb people in this world that cannot discard of them properly and the world cannot cope with that much plastic if they did anyway. However, I wish they would have come up with somthing slightly better than the paper option........but maybe there just isn't.
Maybe somebody needs to design one where you can keep the stick thing and replace the bud only! 😁
32816063-9BG0J.jpgToo many cotton buds are ending up in oceans. Other brands now have strong card bud stems, hopefully Johnson will improve theirs soon (without reverting back to plastic).
They're bendy and baggy now.. heat added though x
I complained to J&J about the new ones being so bendy & they replied that they did it 'cause dopey folks kept flushing the blue plastic ones down the toilet so they switched to white paper ones rendering them totally useless in my opinion.
Edited by: "petethemeat76" 19th Dec 2017

Good deal but I no longer buy cotton buds because of this:[Image]

Johnstons have changed from plastic to paper to help combat this. I do agree though, but it's how people dispose of them which is the main problem (grrrr)

Good deal but I no longer buy cotton buds because of this:[Image]

I've always hated the plastic content of these and only buy the paper versions. In the old days they were made of paper anyway, people get used to plastic so easily.
And don't get me started on the environmental costs of disposable nappies, fatbergs, and micro plastics in toothpaste and cosmetics.
And don't Johnson's still do animal experiments, baby shampoo in rabbit eyes etc?
the news one are rubbish
will they ever bring back the blue stick ones

Thanks OP, £2 voucher showing again so £7.50
If you do online shopping most supermarkets are cheaper than this (as now the £2 voucher is gone), sometimes quite significantly so. E.G Tesco right now, Huggies Pure Baby Wipes Fragrance Free 12 Packs X56 Wipes, 2 for £10. That's 41p per pack of 56.
Tesco is cheaper by £0.50 if you do by 3 unit of 12 packs = 36 packs

Still doesn’t beat Mamia ones.

We actually prefer them too and you get the click lid packet rather than the annoying sticky.
The Pampers Baby Wipes are 50p more at ASDA for the same amount.

groceries.asda.com/pro…762

After using both, I'd recommend spending the extra to get these over the Johnson's. The Pampers ones are thicker.

I agree. The new design is actually more dangerous as you cannot control how far & where the buds will hit!

Won't be buying after my next boxes are finished.

Surely the 'boffins' at J&J tested these...i.e used real humans with hands to test in ears etc etc?
Bloody morons who flushed the plastic one's down the toilet ruined it for everyone.
Original Poster
I haven`t tried the newer style yet. I don't mind Superdrug ones but thought these were a great price for the branded ones. Its a shame retailers have had to change what was a good product to a poorer one just because of people flushing them when they shouldn't.
Thanks Natz265 - ordered.

Most retailers have committed to switching from plastic to paper in their own brand cotton buds by the end of 2017. The change is to prevent buds ending up on the beaches after being flushed down the toilet.
The new ones are rubbish
