There is a big difference between voltage and current draw. A voltage … There is a big difference between voltage and current draw. A voltage over the designed input voltage can fry components. A poorly regulated voltage source due to bad components or design is a risk. Charging LiPo batteries with an out of spec charger can result in cell failure and even fires.

That's what I meant (I just didn't know how to correctly explain it).
Many fake Apple chargers lead to over heating and (as you said) can cause fires and product damage.

Who said anything about what year it is?The same ad/news nodes embedded … Who said anything about what year it is?The same ad/news nodes embedded into the scripts in windows are still serving adsto your OS, regardless? Windows displays a selection of post scrapedadverts for both MS and/or any partners that are prelinked to yourhotmail/outlook or MS linked pay account.. all versions of retailwindows 10+ will/do/are going to show ads / related big data content served toeach OS install, that is why you cannot disable the feed for ads/games/crap onthe later versions.. Also again, no mention of adverts on the internet, the feedto all Windows tp/1p/rp versions are embedded with them, thus you switch yourinternet on, you get the adverts/feeds and random news injected crap from the5 MS ad server partners..Try it.. fire up windows 10, wait.. ads/news/crap served, fire up Ubuntu Mateno served api's thus no adverts..Plus if you/people that are running windows are not running a node ipor adblock, you would not know/see the difference in windows servedads/news/crap.. simple exercise is run windows without any adblockbrowser software, run windows with adblock software, massive bandwidthuse, 40/50/60 nodes connected via sysmon, all serving to your install notfor you to look at anything you want to..So this + Chrome Dev + AB = no feeds/no ads/no served crap/no MS bloatIt is only an alternative, as mentioned by Dilse above, not areplacement and as tested, this is perfect for Rasberry Pi 2 useand anything you do not want all the MS crap on.. once Windows 10is released in august it is still going to be the same core as windows2000, which again was still serving nodes all the time in the background

What on earth have you been smoking?!

I wouldn't normally comment on a thread like this....but what you said is SO at odds with my experience that I felt compelled to comment.

My Windows 8.1 laptop is connected via broadband. If I switch it on and leave it, I NEVER get any advert pop ups. Yes, Avast would stick up an advert - but that has since been remedied by turning on gaming/silent mode...

When I am browsing the internet, I also v.v.rarely get any popups of any kind - and if I want to eradicate them entirely, I just install AdBlock Plus.

So yes, when exactly am I supposed to see this myriad of adverts you are talking about?!

"continuous windows updates and reboots and crashes of Win 7/8/8.1/10 all the time."

I've experienced 2 crashes in 3 years, 1 of those was a virus scanner lockup, the other was an overheating problem.
I use my pc's daily, I think you may need to come into 2015 and upgrade from window 95.

Just clicked the link, I reckon about £40 to £50, never actually calculated it. Obviously if you buy it all at Maplins or somewhere like that, it'll likely cost £142 (not really)
Looks as though it includes a wifi adaptor and breadboard/wires, etc. Still only a few pounds more.
Seems expensive and certainly nowhere near £150 worth of kit.
The pi2 costs around £30, the SD card maybe £10 and a hdmi lead,a pound or two. Not sure how,ugh a case outs but they can be that expensive
No idea if that's good value or not but seems overkill for the most popular applications of XBMC (...whatever it's called at the moment) and RetroPi.

...for it's educational use it may be a good kit?!

I got the same greeting email in July, and on the 4th Sept another telling me about using Intel Galileo board instead.

so I have given up on getting this board from MS.
I haven't received any email! Has anyone else not got one yet?

I never received the above email. Instead, I received am emailing saying one is on the way and I will receive a tracking code within the next few days from Fedex. I've got that too. Kudos to Microsoft. It is very structured.
got same email as above today, seems they have decided who gets the board then just sending a standard email out to everyone who applied to rub our noses in. Boooo
today i got this email:

Hello, xXxXxXxXxXxXx
On April 2nd we announced the Windows Developer Program for IoT at //build/ and asked you to sign-up. Your response has been overwhelmingly positive and many of you have asked how you can use an Intel Galileo board that you either already own or can purchase and we’re pleased to announce today that you can!

Intel has made the latest UEFI firmware available and we have posted instructions on how to install the new Windows image.

This release is also our first servicing release for existing users. If you have your own board or one that we have distributed we’d like you to update to this latest image.

While we are continuing our program, we have finished allocating all the Intel Galileo boards that we purchased. If you were allocated a kit then you should have received either a tracking number or an email saying a kit was allocated to you. If you haven’t received either of those two emails you will still be able to participate in the Windows Developer Program for IoT using a retail board.

Finally, the release information above is for the Intel Galileo Gen 1 hardware, as we continue with our program we are committed to supporting the Gen 2 hardware. We will be making additional Windows images available through our Connect site.

If you have any feedback on this release please let us know at our Connect site.

We can't wait to see what you will make!

I got one of the first batch of PIs, really should get a case for it, don't think waiting another few weeks would be much of an issue, though to be fair to DX, I've ordered the same goods from UK and DX, paying a lot more from the UK, because I needed a couple really quickly, only for the DX goods to arrive two days after the UK ones.
