Silly question (sorry) but can I just fit this straight into the existing wires if a mains power bell (that has a transformer) or would I need to change the lot?

Good price! The Pro with chime is currently £179 on Argos too! https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7496071

£155 at Costco if you pay the £15 membership .

Could be. I think hard wiring it is essential really as not only have I never have to remove it to charge it in 4 years but it has the added bonus of the white ring being illuminated at all times too. It could be it’s slower to wake when it runs off the battery because it’s attempting to conserve power. I don’t know but mines been this quick in all the time I’ve owned one

I wonder why there are so many reports of people having delays, maybe its because yours is hardwired?

I received it today but sadly I didn't get a chime Pro, just a normal chime in the box.

Yes. The wording has been altered.

Now only showing Chime, not Chime Pro. Must have been an error.

The Ebuyer package includes the Chime Pro. The Costco one is the standard Chime.

Hmmm you make a massive point there but not just amazon, your phone, xbox etc its everything. I mentioned something to the wife the other day and next thing I know its all over the internet

You are right... Ring are owned by amazon, you would think with their muscle in cloud storage they could offer it for next to nothing. If they did I believe they would blow the competition out of the water. Even if they charged a £1 per month per household it's regular income... The £30 per year per product stings a little and is putting me off pulling the trigger.

I'm lucky and don't live in a slum, far from it but criminals frequent anywhere they can so it's makes sense to have a recording device up high so it can't be tampered with or stolen, this means situating high out of reach. I've seen the hardwired solutions, the solar panels IMHO are a bit naff and the hardwired transformer requires a plug socket (unlikely to have one high up on a wall). Ideally they would take power from a lighting circuit, I believe they will go this way soon. Their original USP was 'wireless' but they've changed that in recent devices as I imagine it's a common request and is impacting their business. I really want a solution from one manufacturer but they all have issues: Ring = expensive subscriptions (especially once you start adding 2-3 devices) Arlo = less that ideal hardwire solution and no video doorbell Nest = not a fantastic range and monthly subscription required I don't really think there are any other feasible options out there.

You mean, the several options that already exist? 1. Solar panel. 2. Hardwiring kit. 3. Rechargeable batteries, or additional packs, depending on the model. Batteries in my case last 3-4 months, and take literally a couple of minutes to change. It depends on your scenario and use case, I've built up a decent 3 cam Arlo system at a low cost with offers over the years and it works well. Theres an audio door bell you can add for £79, and they're bringing out a video door bell imminently. The point was/is, there's no reason they couldn't offer a free service, like Arlo, which would give you 7 days of recordings. They just choose not to as its earns them a stack of money. RE theft, I don't live in a slum and so it isn't a problem for me, but if you did I can imagine the angst, at least on your Ring you won't have a video saved of the thief... unless you pay of course.

Fact for yourself. Don’t speak for others

Then either do their customer service department as I also called them to discuss the options. Basically the only way to hardwire them is to leave the charging transformer permanently plugged into the mains. I was all up for an arlo system but the basic concept is flawed. Either put the cameras in reach so battery is easy to swap or up high so a ladder is needed for maintenance. If low they are easily stolen, even with the tether. Their security light needs to link to a secondary camera and be installed high so costly and again a pain to change batteries on. Ring’s spotlight camera imho is a more practical solution as it only requires a single install I was however drawn to their solutions with the guarantee of free cloud recordings and the flexibility of easily adding future products but no option to hardwire is a deal breaker, using an internal plug isn't an option with a security light up high. It should be wired directly into the lighting circuit. Most people will want to swap an existing security light with one of these but wont be able to. If i've got this wrong or there is a possible solution I would love to know as would prefer a higher purchase cost and no monthly fee?

They offered technical support and I followed the instructions to put my iPhone on the same wall/door position and complete a few speed tests (35 mb DL and 3.5 mb UL). They also said it should not be scratched and to get a refund after buying another, so I posted it back. They did say the pro was an option but not free as I would have would have jumped at the chance!

That doesn't sound right. Contact them again. It's policy to send a Chime Pro to anyone experiencing network issues.

I was offered nothing. I think it was due to many neighbours with 2.5g WiFi. My 5ghz works well but the Ring 2 doesn’t support that frequency. I also found the black plastic top (not cover) was scuffed and a light duster made it look smeared! Poor quality. If a duster scratches it, what will weathering do it?!

Ask Ring for help; they'll send you a Chime Pro to solve the problem.

It was £149 when posted yesterday. I managed to get one with £1.26 TCB and a further 20% off due to my friend purchasing one at the same time, he gave me a Currys 20% off ring products voucher. So approx. £125 for me all in.

Ordered a Currys gift card through a works discount website that gives me 6% off ... every little helps ... 😁

This is showing as £159, not £149

I had the same delivery problem - Live Chat told me that I could buy it for collection only and it still wouldn't let me order. Not sure about Amazon bugs but I suspect it may be already out of stock and the stock level shown is wrong (?). They said they'd get back to me (they probably won't).

Thanks for that. It's just something picked up online stating; "At 1600 x 1200, Nest Hello requires 800 to 2000 Kbps of upload bandwidth while streaming video. Nest Hello will use more bandwidth to stream video when there is more motion in the scene. If you subscribe to Nest Aware, your Nest Hello streams all video to the cloud for secure offsite storage. At 1600 x 1200, each Nest Hello could use 150 GB to 600 GB of upload bandwidth per month depending on the video quality setting."

Not really. From my experience, I get push notifications on my phone and it says either "nest hello has heard a sound, or nest hello has spotted someone or someone is at the door (if they ring the bell). You can set all these and turn then off etc. And also, it goes into standby low power and starts up when it notices activity. I've not noticed a major jump on my data.

I believe the Nest transmits 24/7 so it must use a lot of bandwidth compared to the Ring equivalents. Also, will this consume a lot of ‘mobile Data’ when in communication via a mobile device away from a Wi-Fi connection?

No you can’t. I would suggest buying a Byron 776 mechanical chime with built in transformer and some bell wire and hard wiring it though. Cost is about £17 but it means you’ll never have to charge it and the white ring around the button is always illuminated.

Being stubborn on price is the best way to go :-)
