Tesco also do a 70% gel in a 50ml bottle for £1 - had 4 delivered yesterday with the shopping. There are variations of the percentage of alcohol needed depending on whether Ethanol or Isopropyl alcohol is used. Also, alcohol evaporates so better to stick with a higher percentage, where available.

There is no minimum 70% for Covid, as the earlier links demonstrate. Not sure what else you want me to say. You don't appear to be willing to share any evidence to contradict the information I've provided and nothing you've shared so far has demonstrated sufficient depth of knowledge to support the fact that you are 'in the know'.

Further desperate cut and pastes, get a life.... The NHS use nothing less than 70%, more often 80% alcohol and no NHS practice would consider using Cuticura, at 66% (whichever way you spin the alcohol content), it does not meet the minimum 70% for Covid viruses... Further cutting and pasting from google isn't going to help you in this debate, you need hard facts from those that know.

V.good idea. Cheers.

Using words like 'junkies' for no particular reason does not make you look less daft either. He is right, 66% by volume should be ok (Even I do prefer 70% +) and he has provided info in this matter.

Seems like a good deal to me, hopefully it kills all the germs!

Got 500ml for £3.99 in b&m

Just a quick tip only go for hand sanitiser that is tested for EN14476. This is one of the most stringent tests and it proves that the sanitiser can kill virus microbes and pathogens from your hands. Anything other than EN14476 and the sanitiser will just kill germs. If you read carefully they have been clamping down on sanitiser labelling (a good thing) and the claims of Kills 99% of germs AND bacteria. So the ones without the official EN14476 test approval can only write kills 99% of germs. Hope this info helps. Always look for KILLS BACTERIA AND EN14476. Stay safe all!

I didnt say it was cheap I just meant the price was on the way down

A) It wasn’t at the time. B) It’s still pointless. Read some of the replies from this old thread before trying to be smart.

That isn't actually the case here. The box is listed at 19.99 and the code is in bold on the item page. It isn't at all special or hard to find.

I love Aldi gold roast what you all talking about

That’s your opinion though. It doesn’t change the fact that it was intended as a joke.

It seems like a good price and free delivery if you spend enough. Eight for a tenner delivered free. Can't be bad.

Absolutely fed up with Superdrug. Finally managed to get hand sanitizer online, then they cancelled my order - absolutely no reason given. Don't bother.

Apologies. They are 250ml each. My bad

What's the 500ml one? Can you share a link or picture please?

Be aware delivery can take 9 days , which is pretty bad when paying for it.

Good price for these large bottles

WHO clearly recommend 80% Why save 10-15% risking health or life?

oap and water are the cheapest option....but we don’t carry soap and water when at work or out which is the whole point of hand gel and I should’ve worded it better...the serious cases that cause patients to be intubated that contract secondary infections would be more correct, right I’m done with this thread I’ve spent two days on it and it doesn’t make the hand gel anymore appealing ...it’s over priced happy hand gel shopping peeps over and out

I’m sure some of the more recent research showed as low as 40% could be effective against Covid-19. Like you say more alcohol just usually speeds up the amount of time taken to kill the virus.

This feels very much like a trump moment maybe she wants us to inject it (confused) (lol)

A lot of what you are stating as fact is not correct, I am afraid. It isn't inevitable that you will die without antibiotics in hospital. I have successfully treated a fair few patients with Covid-19 and managed them with supportive care. Also if there is a minimum requirement, then that is enough. The higher concentration gels may kill faster, but will also be a lot harsher on the skin and that plays an important role too. To be honest, soap and water are probably the best and cheapest option for most people.

agreed would make commercial sense

True but the rate at which it has sold out most is now coming straight from production line. I got carex hand sanitiser recently that had only been produced 2 weeks earlier. Would be good if they did change measurement as this crops up all the time and have seen a lot of people give their cuticura hand gels one star reviews because they don't think their is enough alcohol in it. I don't think there has been a single cuticura thread on here yet where there hasn't been a debate or dispute about the alcohol level.

Thanks.. I went for the cuticura total as it covers viruses and meets the WHO recommendations

just guessing they might have thousands of bottles already printed ?

Interesting research and I know the research on Covid-19 is moving at pace. I had a quick read of the summary and they do note that this requires 30 seconds to cause inactivation, which may not be how it gels are likely used in practical terms. The other thing to note is that diluted ethanol's evaporative loss will result in a gradual decrease in ethanol concentration so 30% out of the pack is not practical in gel formulation. Lastly, this evaporative loss is why I always suggest avoiding borderline specs.

Yes, the CDC does recommend over 60% wt/wt ethanol, however they also refer to the recent early-release publication from Kratzel et al., who assessed increasing concentrations of ethanol for viricidal activity in VeroE6 cells propagated with SARS COV2. They found that any concentration of ethanol over 30% vol/vol caused complete inactivation of this virus. Based on this paper I'd have no hesitation in using this gel for protection of hands from COV2. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/7/20-0915_article#tnF1

But ultimately when 60% is proven to kill the virus then 70% is not going to kill it any more.

Can't compare bullet to viruses. The brain synergy is just poor.

Incorrect. The studies say "at least 60%" is effective. In a similar way than a slightly bigger bullet through your brain is no more effective at killing you than one that is 10% smaller.....

70% is what you need to kill of the viruses.

A few weeks ago I paid £15 Inc del for 1L of an unknown brand gel from a random seller. Luckily it turned up ( after two weeks )and is a quality product. However in the world we now live in this seems a fair price if bought with free delivery. I have not seen any reasonable price gel in stock in stores around me. If I needed some more to have at work I would buy this no problem. It might not be a mega deal , but it's ok by me. Voted hot.

Voted hot hot hot !! Here in Northern Ireland & ROI , a 300 ml unbranded sanitizer is sold at £8/€9 which is absolutely disgraceful and this is across almost all pharmacies. So its definitely fair play to Amazon at this price.

I don't get why this is so cold, yet the fruity floral cuticura deal for 6 X 100ml is so hot? The price per 100ml on this deal is lower, so if you want to order hand sanitizer for delivery, then this is the better offer. I've chucked a log on the fire for you to try and heat it up in here!

WHO guidance is that alcohol content in hand sanitisers needs to be between 60 and 80% content by volume to be effective against COVID. Too much or too little and it won't be able to break through the outer defences of the virus cells and defeat it.

I dont think anyone felt insulted or got their knickers twisted tbh buddy. There's nothing wrong with you prefering 70% - It certainly cant hurt to have more and I can kinda see your logic. Who knows...maybe they will inform us in the future 60% wasn't enough after all. The issue people had was with you passing your belief off as a fact. When it isn't You stay safe too.

Because its not a deal when the price is raised bloody £4 overnight. Honestly. Go read the name of the site again please. You should not be supporting companies raising prices of essentials by large percentages overnight. Amazon has seen their error and reduced the price back down again now however. Also Hand Sanitiser is not difficult to get anymore, there is 2-5 deals for it a DAY here.

WHO recommendation is clear - 80% Ethanol and no gelling or ather additives, because there's no evidence they don't reduce the disinfectant effect. Is it so important to save 10% and mix additives to risk lives?

I've been into a couple of Boots shops now, for something different, but seen plenty of hand gels, 50ml and 300ml bottles. Looks like the worst of the rush is over for now.... shops starting to get back up to stock.

Just got some which I picked up on a click and collect order. It doesnt smell "nice" but it doesnt smell bad, just like an alcohol smell. Rubs in well and doesnt leave any smells on your hand after rubbed in as far as I could tell. Think it's a good buy, not the cheapest now at the moment but was very convenient to get!

Has anyone purchased this? Does it have an unpleasant smell?

£6 to save your life think about it big heat from me

Just use soap.

If anyone happens to be ordering something for delivery from wilko, they have 200ml bottles for £1.25 (yes it meets the minimum 60%) although delivery is £5. Like i say though, just mentioning this incase someone reads it and was planning to order something anyway.
