Jim Beam Double Oak Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 700ml- £10.83 @ Co-Op Colney Road, Dartford

Jim Beam Double Oak is hot off the press: new to the market for 2016, it aged in two newly charred oak barrels and is all the richer for it. Classically sweet but with added spice,… Read more

Also £10.39 at the Co-op in Tattenham Corner branch

It was actually £10.39 in Haxby.

Not just the one store. I just got some in Haxby York. Bought one at £13.50 last month so guess they are clearing stock.

It’s not nationwide I’ve had it price checked at two Cheltenham stores now and it scans at £27 so maybe it’s being discontinued at certain stores.

Online price is £27 however it’s priced much lower in-store - just not sure if it’s nationwide

May be store specific (picked up at the East Didsbury branch earlier this week). Worth checking to see if this or the other Jim Beam flavours are reduced to clear.

Hadn't realised they'd changed it, might go and grab a bottle before it disappears

It also goes lovely with cloudy lemonade or tonic water with lemon.

It's reduced to clear as they are getting rid of the old stock that was 40%. The new version is only 32.5%

OMG it’s back! Thank for the heads up!

Got this and peach today for £13 in asda

£17.32 with 5% discount. Flavour Pepper, Vanilla. 40% vol.

Got one for my son from Asda last month @ £10.74 when they were deleting various lines. He was keen to try it at that price! XD I had a sip too (not a whisky drinker) and thought it quite smooth, getting the vanilla :)

Not terrible, but not great. I'd only use it for mixers or cocktails.

How is it straight? How does it compare to other common rye whiskey’s e.g. Woodford

This has a much better flavour with coke than regular Jim Beam in my opinion. It's more of a bourbon than a rye to be fair, but has a little extra tang to it than regular JB. I rarely mix whisky, but occasionally fancy a bourbon with coke on a hot day and this ticks all the boxes for me.

I think so yes. I tend to use mixers very conservatively, starting with about the same measure of alcohol used. That way you can definitely still taste the spirit unless you’re using something particularly foul. I typically recommend ginger ale or ginger beer with an optional squeeze of lime & then lots of ice. I guess if you’re going to drown the drink in some nasty cola or something, it might not be worth the extra money. Whenever I see people doing that I sometimes ask them to indulge me on making them a better drink and they typically agree that it’s preferable with a bit of imagination and restraint.

Damn. Went up in price in my basket.

Trust well hidden from wifey :{

I still have 3 bottles of the double oak I managed to grab from coop when they were clearing them out for £13.50 (y)

Mine host 🥃

I'm not typically a big JB advocate but of their budget offerings I find this stuff to be eminently tolerable for cocktails and the like. The black label double oak in the same bottle too. Whenever it's around this price point I tend to grab one for guests/less favoured family members etc.

A few of these on the whoops shelf next to the frozen section. Absolute bargain, I left some for others cos I’m kind 😁

Strange how they have store specific deals like that

That was still £32 in my local. 😡

Did they have much else there reduced? Might pop it on my way back home.

No minimum unit price but there is a minimum price. In Engalnd a ban on selling alcohol below the level of alcohol duty plus VAT has been in place since 28 May 2014

Whilst Scotland and Wales have MUP, England does not, so it's hard to imagine what the staff were speaking about when they said "below minimum pricing".

As they had this and a whole bunch of other "Special Price" deals, I thought it worth mentioning, particularly given that this will be cheaper in England if available. EDIT: @sjs… Read more

I tried to sort delivery, during initial lockdown, as local shops were refusing. They refused also, but, that doesn't stop me from trying again. Should I try store with best offers, or one closest to ferry?

Do Drop Store deliver to the Isles for £12? As we get free delivery, I have been using them (as have extended family) for the likes of Vodka and Gin and they have Ron Centenario Rum (not Zacapa) that I have had a bottle of and ordered more. They actually have an offer on it for the 7 and 9 as a two bottle bundle. A bit of a mystery is the brand these days but going on taste the 7 and 9 were a hit. (y)

Sadly, I'm on Western Isles, directly between Lewis & Harris nowadays :( So, MUP is an issue, but no Asda/Lidl/Aldi/Sainsbury's ... Only a large Tesco Metro, & slightly larger Co-op. It's madness. The Tesco & Co-op here, are right at the top end for profits, in the country,& Aldi/Lidl utterly ignore us.

I have a bottle of Rumbullion from Xmas I am yet to try. It's worth a look if near an Asda because each store seems to have different deals, although a lot of deals reported are the same in different stores. I was chuffed to get 5 bottles of Woods Old Navy which down south away from MUP would be dirt cheap.

Though the paper covered gin was Rumbullion for a moment! Got soooo excited.
