Same. I tend to buy one every now and then (years apart) and top up the most common sizes as I go along. When the 'random use' sizes are nearly depleted I wait for another grab pack to be on offer.

Yes the torx head is designed to stop what's called "cam out" which is where the screwdriver head slips out of the head and then strips it. As for whether pilot holes are needed then that depends on the thread of the screw and what you are screwing it into.

SmokeyNegroni

Thanks, that's helpful.

daveandvera

35 years a joiner, never seen a screw in flooring loosen or reverse itself yet!Flooring however can dry out and it’s thickness then reduces making the head of the nail or screw protrude, giving the impression the fixing has loosened that’s all

daveandvera

To convert screw size back from new to old just half gauge number eg 1” x8 becomes 25 mm x4 ,2”x 8 becomes 50x 4

arCuThEDOWDr

I have had a much happier time with torx screws for flooring, pozi just strips too easily at the level of torque typically required. No pilot holes needed with Torx in my experience. So I would spend a bit more and get a box of Tongue-Tite or Floor-Tite screws

Can these still be used with rawlplugs if we wanted to use them that way (rather than direct screw into wall)? Would using rawplugs add or remove from the holding strength of these?

Wear_The_Fox_Hat

Still have some concerns about these as other users have previously mentioned problems. Where they're hit and miss in blockwork and can't be undone and resecured.

Tedman

these concrete screws will put perform plugs and screws any day. Their pull out strength is far superio

phillis78

Thanks for that, I’ll be looking into these for the future that’s for sure as sound really strong if holding up very heavy units, I’ll have a read up on these as well

phillis78

Yes maybe a stud finder will always put mind at ease a little more, I’ve got some of the Grip It screws with I got a long time ago for a tv bracket but I’ll definitely look into anchor fittings as well, I’ll read up on them as well as I don’t know much on them. Cheers

Bi material plugs for that

Didger2007

Great screws, but you'll find OOS in many stores

mozzer_Morris

Also don't use turbo gold with plugs, the aggressive rifled thread can eat the plug rather than expand it!

mozzer_Morris

Turbo gold are great screws, but as they are fully threaded not so good for holding down something like floor boards where the aggressive thread just locks into the board and doesn't pull it down. These partially threaded screws are ideal for that . For attaching thin metal fittings to any timber turbo gold are hard to beat....these days you need a really large range of types of screws. There isn't one type fits all :/

Thanks. Just got this offer

Jaaaaay

They were in fact these - https://www.screwfix.com/p/goldscrew-plus-pz-double-self-countersunk-woodscrews-trade-pack-1400-pcs/1864f?_requestid=394991 Identical specs, countersunk rifled shank etc. So yes they were Goldscrew, and not Turbogold, but I'm not sure on the difference between the two brands to be entirely honest!

bbbazman

Are you sure you're referring to the turbo gold screws in the deal which is what THESE guys are and not the cheaper Goldscrew which is what THESE are? There are cheaper screws but not all screws are the same...

Jaaaaay

Yes every other month or so they drop down from £24.99. I purchased a box on 15/02/21 for £19.99.

wolfy001

I bought for £19.99 from screwfix few weeks back.
