Yes, actually.

But I'm also fully aware that many extension cables from China have a habit of setting on fire should any shorts occur. The fact this says "unbranded" and "china" just raised a few doubts. Hence I'm asking here before making any purchases, I'd rather not destroy things if it's all the same.

Iphones are made in china as well... I would say these are as safe as extension leads you can buy in local supermarkets. Probably they are made on the same fabric anyway.

If it has been trimmed before then growth particularly at the sides should be more even. It should be able to cut a bit larger branches by nibbling at them. At the top, growth is faster, so you'll probably need a lopper and a tree saw (not a bow saw, just a saw with coarse teeth and a narrow blade) as well.

Thanks

Would this tackle Leylandi or are the teeth gaps too small?

The other problem with this sort of trimmer is that the weight is at the end of a long bar, so it's difficult and tiring to use, particularly at an angle. Commercial versions have the motor (usually petrol) at the handle end with only the cutter at the end of the pole. They're a lot more expensive though.
