Sony Gold Wireless Headset - £69.99 @ Smyths
Found 6th AprFound 6th Apr
New headset released by playstation and cheapest at symths as game selling for 79.99.

Can anyone recommend some for the Xbox One S at a similar price range? The best I've come up with is https://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/-tbs-2015-02/version.asp?refsource=LDadwords&refsource=Ldadwords&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIquq7kNnI2gIVCEPTCh368AviEAQYASABEgJ02PD_BwE at £75

I have the original pulse elites. they were prone to cracking where the green marks are, as did mine. I have put some tie wraps around the parts marked in red and am still using the set after 4.5 years.

Clear cut review with no waffle. Thanks

Great review

My review of this new Gold vs the old Gold - Much more durable and no longer prone to the snapping issue the previous was known for - Sound quality slightly improved not much but the original Gold sound quality was good in the first place anyway - This New gold headset is 3D audio compatible like the Platinum headset great for VR etc - Mic quality is average same quality as previous Gold - More comfortable than previous Gold and lighter - Buttons on the headsets more like buttons and not digged in like the previous - Battery don't know if it's placebo but it seems ever so slightly better than old Gold Overall it's a clear improvement over the old Gold headset gave the old away to my cousins after thorough testing as i no longer need it, only con i can think of is the packaging box this arrives in the innards is less fancy than the Old one that's about it lol :) Here's some blog details of this if you wanna read up on it: https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/02/05/new-gold-wireless-headset-hits-store-shelves-later-this-month/ https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2018/02/05/introducing-the-new-gold-wireless-headset-for-ps4-and-ps-vr-coming-soon-to-europe/

Lower impedance on headphones means usually easier to drive, so can deliver higher volumes and cleaner sound.

Comparison of specs of the ones I bought (bottom) vs the £17 ones (top) Apart from battery life and weight (13 hours expensive vs 9 hours cheaper) The impedance is 24ohm on cheaper vs 32 on more expensive Anyone know what that means in layman terms? specs of the cheaper ones: https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/SHB4405BK_00/flite-wireless-bluetooth-headphones/specifications Acoustic systemClosed Magnet typeNeodymium Impedance24 Ohm Speaker diameter32 mm Frequency range9 - 22 000 Hz Maximum power input40 mW Sensitivity103 dB DiaphragmPET specs of the ones I bought https://www.philips.co.uk/c-p/SHB4805DC_00/flite-wireless-bluetooth-headphones/specifications Acoustic systemClosed Magnet typeNeodymium Impedance32 Ohm Speaker diameter32 mm Frequency range9 - 22 000 Hz Maximum power input40 mW Sensitivity103 dB DiaphragmPET

Wait till November, that's a long way off if you need a new headset now.

Black friday.......see date

You got these for £69.99? (shock) (shock)

Wait for a black friday event.....I brought mine for £69.99 from Currys.

I've bought nothing but gaming headsets from around 2004 onwards and have always paid a fairly high price for each pair as I tend to research the best available pairs. I bought some Roccat Kave's and they were very good, very comfortable with what seemed like brilliant sound. But... And it's a big "But". I read some reviews online regarding a new pair after my mic packed in on the Roccat Kave's and viewed this video... I bit and bought a pair of Samson SR850 (newest version of those in the video) and was astounded with the difference they made, not just in gaming, but for music production and audio overall on my PC. The difference was unreal. I paired it with a Zalman clip-on mic which cost about £6.50 on Amazon and had a headset that simply blew everything else I'd ever used away for around just shy of £35 delivered. It's worth considering this option the next time you're tempted to buy a new gaming headset. Apologies for the long-winded post, but I think it's important since I myself had been caught up in the "Gaming Headset" marketing garb. This is a deal website after all. I hope this helps!

No. The wire is great for hanging the buds around the back of your neck when not in use, use the magnets on the back of the buds to hold them together for even more security.

For me the base is quiet.

It must be the set you had, as mine have a range of at lest 20 metres and never disconnect near my phone.

I have these and they are no way near my AEG (Samsung Galaxy S8 ) for quality, the base is quiet, but the highs and mids are clear enough. They are cheap to buy, work well, sound quality is fine enough for the price, battery lasts an age and the set goes to sleep after an amount of inactivity to conserve the battery. They are so far robust, resist sweat, fit very well and I recommend them highly at this price point. They lack voice status feedback, you just get bongs and beeps.

Mine arrived today and they're spot on - thanks GTID! Really comfy fit straight out of the box without having to change anything, paired immediately and unlike my Mpow Swifts, not a single audio dropout. They're light and although there's nobody here to confirm it, I anticipate almost zero sound "bleed" which has the tendency to annoy fellow commuters. These are my new favourite blue buds. I think these are brilliant for the money. (y)

You could plug them in direct via the PS4 controller headphone jack as they come with a 3.5mm jacked lead for wired use but they don't pair with Bluetooth to the console

they are occasionally out of sync and dropping connections, if you see the number of amazon warehouse items that's a clear indication something is wrong with it ( same with Jaybird products where letf or right earbud all suddenly stops working, or cannot power on at all )

Had these for a couple years, Amazing headset, dropped them for the first time at a funny angle and broke the hinge, taped it up but may just buy these again, worth it tbh.

Had mine for over 2 years, treated them carefully due to the cracking issues a lot of people report. Posted up on threads about these previously that never experienced cracking..... then it happened to mine :(. I've since repaired them by applying resin down the folding pins so they don't fold anymore. So far this is holding up. My recommendation on these would be great headphones but go in to any purchase knowing they could end up broken out of warranty. Also, don't fold them would also be a very good idea.

Great sound quality, but lots of reports of them being overly fragile so be careful with them!

Cracking quality set for that price. Love the Official Sony stuff. Had the Pulse Elites, recently updated to the Platinums. £50 is a really great price for these. Only ever been a little cheaper in the past as well.

100% agree Can hurt your ears after a few hours. Good quality sound but battery life should be much better. It seems delicate but has mine for about 2 years with no damage

Does anyone have recommendations for wired over ear headphones? On the cheaper side (around £20-30?). For my teenage daughter for Xmas.

I use reviewmeta.com - you would be amazed at the amount of suspicious reviews for all types of prodcuts that show up as fakes. Mainly electronics from China, some brands are good but they are few n far between.

I wasn't doubting you. I just thought that maybe you had an easy way to tell rather than just by building up experience of the fakes.

My sister's after a pair after seeing mine. Is it worth waiting till black Friday. I got mine on Amazon prime day. Couldn't get the betrons which were down from 100 to 25 can't remember the model. Also my Bluetooth gets bad in the same areas in urban districts. Is it a common problem for Bluetooth to be overwhelmed ?!? Or am I expecting too much from a wireless connection. I just like the form factor of no wires so much more convenient and headphones have bigger battery's I can go quite a few trips to town before I need to charge them.

Ahhh, shame you've had a bad experience, after repositioning my Xbox to the middle level on my tv stand I can't say I've had any negative issues with my headset..... Sound great to me. Maybe you had a pair made on a Friday ?

It's a saving compared to the original launch price of £129.99 granted but I can't recommend this headset. I preordered mine from Amazon and have since returned them after nothing but issues after 2 weeks of use. Even after 2 firmware updates I still had random disconnects, the sound would drop out for 5-10 seconds, you'd lose your connection to the xbox & party chat. These are unusable in their current state. As a previous Turtle Beach owner of X4's, X41's and PX5's I was expecting a similar soundstage. I was left disappointed with the sound quality. They don't go loud enough for my liking and sound rather average at best.

Pity about all the bad reviews online. Will have to wait for the other models with the new Microsoft wireless chip that are released in the winter. Also those Turtle Beach 800X are only £89.99 on wicklo (grade A refurbished) if you are after a pair.

Lmao, I'm not worried by it. I am fully aware that people like that exsist lol. I'm glad we could discuss

Please don't buy these full of technical issues. Your better off buying the Turtle Beach Elite Pro Tournament Wired Gaming Headset it's not wireless but for a bit more money your buying the best gaming headset out there currently. If you need a wireless option go with the Elite 800 X but there over £200 really good headphones but the mic quality really lets them down sound wise they are amazing though. But these are not worth £120 not until the various issues are sorted I wouldn't even purchase if they were reduced to £100

I bought this today at Argos currently 20 pound off. Available in black and white

This is what baffles me - how can it be clear and rubbish? I had this headset for a few days and I have to agree with bleachedsmiles - people were constantly saying they couldn't hear me (and I had turned up the gain as far as it goes). It's onmidirectional so it's expected that it won't be as good as one placed in front of your mouth but why do some say it's good when others don't? I have a quite deep voice and a small office if that factors... Perhaps the noise cancelling picks up too much bounced sound and cancels my voice...? Dunno. Anyway - Great set of headphones - just not a great headset for me.

Do you know where to get the ear cup replacement cushions?

Got one myself and it's worth every penny!

Can you play Netflix etc through these? Other Bluetooth headsets don't...or its not straightforward from what I gather.

Connected mine via Optical Cable to PC. Sounds as good as my 269£ Sennheisers.

Yeah for sure a decent stereo headset is often preffered to surround sound headsets too, it's just if anyone's buying this for it's wireless 7.1 capabilities then unfortunately the arctis is a PC only headset for that. There's very few options on the market for headsets using optical inputs which is why I landed on the Siberia 800, it's was a short list to pick from lol

This is true, the PS4 only outputs stereo via USB, but if your PS4 is already hooked up to a surround amp via optical and you just need a quick headphone option in the evening, the Arctis 7 is a decent choice. Certainly I never felt that disadvantaged only using stereo. Maybe it depends on the game.

Arctis 7 is 7.1 surround sound on PC only, on the consoles that becomes a standard stereo headset because it uses USB. You need a headset with optical input for console 7.1 surround sound headset audio which the Siberia 800 can do

Voted hot! Although for about £10 more you can get the Steelseries Arctis 7 on Amazon which I went for instead of these, as they also work on Xbox One as well as the PS4

I voted hot because this is the cheapest you can get them by about £30 and you do get the free earphones. But these were released in 2014 so they are old tech and they've had two updated versions since then, I think these rrp should be even cheaper than this. Plus those earphones are probably ****

Thanks for the reply (_;)

Yup, i have this set for my ps4, works straight out of box - amazing kit

Am I right in thinking that for xbox on that this headset isn't 100% wireless if you wish to use xbox one party chat? My current Afterglow AG9 are 100% 0 wires for both audio and chat. Thanks

They suck, but that's only after comparing them to audiophile STEREO headphones..that said they are good for gaming....these headphones are many, many years old, with next to no improvement hardware wise...If you love FPS games, these are perfect and the reason they stay expensive is because they sponsor pro gamers

Mic quality is frequently overlooked as it's not something you experience... As with you, many people don't often play online so as long as they function well as headphones, people's expectations finish there. I chat with my mates most nights, even when we're playing different games, so mic quality is important for me as it's key to an enjoyable conversation for everyone.

Each to their own. That is actually one thing I really like about these as I hate the conventional design with a big ugly mike sticking down as it can get in the way or be easily hit causing a loud bang/pop for the other people in the voice party. Never had any problems with other people hearing me though as I'm only an occasional online gamer I perhaps haven't tested the voice aspect as thoroughly as you...

Why have they put the mic in the ear cup? Nobody can hear me and if I turn the gain right up, apparently, I sound like Darth Vader! Good headphones but a terrible headset - Taking mine back :(

Ace, been waiting for these to drop in price again. That's my birthday present sorted out :-)

Prompted me to pick up a pair from Game while I was out tonight (had quite a bit of credit) so thanks OP :)
