Scoop: Amazon is ditching Android for Fire TVs, smart displays; (sideloading coming to an end?)

Posted 11th Nov 2023
i hope amazon doesnt ditch fork android for their own in-house software (vega). if they do, they are intentionally ruining their business model built around android for years. roku will gleefully want them to self-destruct anyways. sideloading is the main selling point for any firestick, if that goes away? Google will take on board people trooping for their CCWGTV sticks.

Pretty sure Amazon sells the hardware at cut price with the hope of making money of subscription services.

The vast majority of people in the world are not dodgy people looking to "sideload" things unscrupulously.

    Do you OP support EncroChat?

there's nothing illegitimate about sideloading. even the 🇪🇺 is preparing to force apple to open up its wall-garden

I have 4 firesticks around the house and all need android (for kodi) so I won't ever be updating them if they go for their own os

It'll be hard to find a replacement for IPTV.

The new vega os is based on Linux (the same as Android) and will apparently still be able to run android apps.

It's to force you to see the ads. Ads will be included as standard in Amazon Prime content unless you pay more not to see them. Ads for products like cosmetics etc. rather than TV shows and movies will start appearing on the home page. Controlling the OS means you won't be able to circumvent it.
Amazon make vast and growing profits from advertising.

Oh nooo .. i won't be able to sideload my "free" hooky movie apps ...

It's rather laughable that they're "intentionally ruining their business model"

Or that’s the reason why they are doing it to stop it
