Both me and my partner are on Life Mobile through uswitch deal, would highly recommend the network. Good customer service so far and great coverage (uses EE network). Only negative for some would be current lack of 4G support

FAQ-

What is a Sim Only?
A sim only is a pay monthly contract that comes without a handset. They are usually sold with a 12 month or 1 month minimum term. They are great if you already have a phone and don't need to get another one.

Which sim will work in my phone?
You need to make sure that the SIM you are buying will work in your phone. If your phone is locked to a certain network then you can only use a sim card from that network. You will need to unlock the phone to be able to use another networks sim card. A phone can be unlocked by the original network provider or via a third party.

What size SIM card will I need?
There are 3 different types of SIM cards in use.

Nano SIM: These are the smallest SIM cards and are used in phones such as the iPhone 5S/6/6S or Galaxy S6/S7/Edge+
Micro SIM: These are the second smallest SIM cards and are seen in a huge number of phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S5 or Moto G
Standard SIM: These are the bigger SIM cards that work in older phones or low end handsets such as the Samsung Galaxy Ace
You can check in the manual which SIM card your phone takes.

How do i transfer my number?
You need a PAC from your existing network. Once you have that you can sign up to the new network. Once your new sim card arrives you can transfer your number by ringing the new network customer service team and giving them your PAC and existing number. This process takes 24 hours. You will be able to use both your old sim on your current number and your new sim on a temporary number. Once the PAC has been taken and used by the new network your old sim card will stop working within 24 hours and the number will move over to the new sim card from the new network.

How do i know if a network will work in my area?
Use a mixture of the online coverage checker and a pay as you go sim to assess if the coverage is good in your area. Also ask friends and family if they use the network and what they think of it. If you can't do this then sign up for the 1 month contract only. Never sign a 12 month contract without checking signal first.

There are 4 major networks in the UK. EE,Three, Vodafone and O2. So you only need to get a sim card from them to check your coverage.

How do i get cashback?
If you buy the Sim only through Quidco and TopCashback you will be eligible for a small sum of money to be paid into your bank account or PayPal.

To do this use the links above to go to the Quidco/TCB website. Find the network and sim only you want to buy on the Quidco/TCB website and it should display a cashback amount next to it. Click the link and it'll take you to the network website where you can buy the sim only deal. This will then track on your Quidco/TCB account and be payable soon after.

Are there any hidden costs?
Calls to landline (01,02,03) and Mobiles (07) are part of your inclusive minutes allowance. If you call numbers starting 08,09 or 070, charges may differ between providers, so it is best to look at the specific rates before choosing your sim. These charges apply to any other premium numbers as well as international numbers. Voicemail may cost. EE and O2 also increase the price of their contracts every 12 months by RPI. This usually happens in March so you can expect to see your price plan increase by a small amount in March 2017. Roaming is usually very expensive too. You can normally buy a bundle from your network to save on these costs.

SMS is free in your allowance. Picture messaging is not free. See the networks individual policies for data charges over your limit and other charges not covered above.

What does Unlimited mean?
A number of networks advertise “Unlimited” Minutes/texts and data. Usually there is a fair use policy attached to this term or traffic shaping to reduce your speed once you go over a soft limit. It is important to check this if you are a heavy user.

Do i get a better deal as an existing customer/for buying a second sim?
Possibly, speak to your networks CS team or retention's dept and see what offers they have.

Can i get it cheaper if i work for.../am a student?

Yes! Please see below :>

Vodafone - Potential 10% or 20% discount if you work for certain companies - ]Voda Employee Advantage Scheme

Coverage checker links

As noted in the FAQ, EE, Three, Vodafone and o2 are the main networks in the UK, so you can use the links below to check for coverage using your address or postcode.

Check coverage with Three HERE
(Use Three for iD Mobile, PG Mobile, TPO Mobile...)

Check coverage with o2 HERE
(Use o2 for Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, Lyca Mobile...)

Check coverage with EE HERE
(use EE for ASDA Mobile, BT Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Life Mobile, Vectone Mobile...)

Check coverage with Vodafone HERE
(use Vodafone for Talk Mobile, TalkTalk Mobile...)

Ofcom checker HERE (checks ALL major networks)

Please note that whilst the coverage maps are mostly accurate, it would be best to get a free sim (links above in FAQ section) to test a networks signal in your area.

Wasn't there a thread to a Google docs spread sheet with all the deals? with filtering to match what you're looking for. I remember referring to it a few times when looking for deals a year or so ago.

The id 15£ shockproof deal comes with 2000mins, not 500 as you listed.

I think it was deleted due to it cutting out HUKD's referral links.

Ahh deja vu. good post, nice to see it again

Great thread OP, heat for the effort.

Have a question was hoping someone could answer thats not in the FAQ. For the Three all you can eat data tariff it says on the details section on the website: "On our All-you-can-eat data plans, you can use up to 30GB of your data each month to create a Personal Hotspot within the UK"

Does this mean if I were to use the SIM in a mobile WiFi device as a hotspot that it would completely stop working after using 30GB or would they just start traffic shaping it at that point?

Gifffgaff £20 payg is not unlimited, I just had an email warning message saying I've been downloading/streaming too much and if it happens again I will not be able to purchase the £20 goodybag again... I only just went over my 6gb limit

Word of warning to anyone taking out a SIM only deal with LIFE mobile.

An eagle eyed member of the forum noticed you get charged for using your WiFi (_;)

Any way of getting a sim only deal consisting of like 10 mins, 10 texts and 4GB 4G for cheap? I use WhatsApp a lot more nowadays for texting and calling.

Seems a bit childish just to link to that closed thread to get more people to gawk at the idiot.

That's clearly a myth, how can they monitor your wifi usage...?

Was only posting for a light hearted laugh mate

Anyone recommend a pay as you go deal for data that works in Sweden?

Have a look at Tesco Mobile, as their Home from Home promotion is covered in Sweden, allowing you to use your included allowances

See here

Thanks for the effort.

Have a sense of humour, that mclovin9091 post had me LOL when he first posted it, he also done a follow up to that post.I think it's the best thread posted this year IMHO.

How much of a good value is 250 mins/5000 texts/ 2GB on Tesco Mobile for £10 p/m for 12 months? I got this counter-offer after asking if they could drop the price of their £11 p/m package (250/5000/2GB ). I'm in the cooling off period and tempted to just go with iD Mobile's £5 p/m package instead but not sure on their network reliability.

Add my deal. Ends in 6 days.

My Vodafone 12 month sim only deal is coming to an end in Sept. Currently paying £13.20 unlimited mins, text and 4gb 4G (plus 6 months netflix).
Holding out for a similar deal although the £18 o2 with 10gb is very good

Awesome, thank you. That link doesn't seem to work though, just takes me to the Tesco home page

Good but
What about voda cashback deals from mobiles.co.uk/e2save - generally the cheapest for unlimited mins.

Also existing customers deals for Talktalk/BT can be good especially with cashback.

Finally Life mobile allows you to cap at as little as £1 pm over contract price - does anyone else come close to this yet?

Fab stuff for putting all of this together, many thanks indeed.

Tempted to go for the iD Mobile's £5 p/m package - the TCB shows as 40.40 - which means 20 quid odd for an entire year - too good to be true or I am missing something here?
