I never said there were any savings. I disagreed that this was a 'really good deal'.

56 washes according to Amazon reviews - so not the concentrated version. Doesn’t seem that economical or environmental.

Have a look at some green sites on how to make you own. I can't recommend any softener because it is an unnecessary washing product, especially for towels.

for those who purchase with ethical reasons, be aware that Ecover and Method are now owned by S C Johnson, who are not known for their ethical or non polluting products

tho it's quite often on offer at Sainsbury's / Waitrose - 750ml for £1.50 or sutin, so that would make more sense if trying it for the first time

Thanks. I love their products so have ordered this but currently in high demand so will have to wait for it to be delivered but not a problem. I'm not an eco warrior either but try my best for the environment. Thanks again for sharing. X

johnnyboyuk

Interesting. They do say that anti-bacterial can kill good bacteria too which is undesirable.

plainjayne81

The benefits of antibacterial soap have never been proven. If you wash properly, any soap and warm water will do.

johnnyboyuk

Apparently Ecover is not anti bacterial. For me that doesn't seem to make it a good use for dish washing etc, but happy to be proved wrong.

BIGUSHEADUS

I wondered when SC Johnson bought Ecover and Method if they were just going to break the brands up and run them into the floor or buy them to fill a gap they have no intention in touching, I guess they've opted for the second approach. I'm actually surprised they top the list for worst companies in ethical consumer, didn't realise they were that bad! Ethical consumer really is a godsend when you need some independent advice that remains exactly that, independent. Innocent were bought by Coca Cola?!? Thanks for letting me know, completely missed that one. But to be honest I only just found out that Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post, under a subsidiary of course. They make it harder and harder to find out which multi national corp owns whom and what, everything is so horribly clandestine. Thanks for the excellent post @Shinoke

Jonj1611

Shinoke

You're missing the point entirely. Thanks for the heads up @BIGUSHEADUS https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/home-garden/ecover-and-method-boycott The whole point that many people like me bought Ecover and Method was because they're a more ethical alternative to the standard trashy brands. Unfortunately this happens a lot. Coca Cola bought out Innocent. L'orreal previously acquired The Body Shop. Thankfully they're now owned by a business that are a lot more etchical. To suggest that all business are the same and only test on animals when required by law is ridiculous. And some brands specifically don't sell cosmetics in China for example as the Chinese government require cosmetics to be tested on animals. https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/company-profile/sc-johnson-son-inc "Environment Despite buying the ‘green’ cleaning brands Method and Ecover in 2017, SC Johnson performed poorly when it came to the environment. The company received Ethical Consumer’s worst rating for Environmental Reporting as it failed to set any targets for reducing its environmental impact. It also continues to use all three of the toxics commonly contained in cleaning products – parabens, phthalates and triclosan. It therefore received Ethical Consumer’s worst rating for its toxics policy and lost a full mark under Pollution & Toxics."

The trouble with most yellow or orange based toilet cleaners, is that any guest that happens to need to visit your W.C, will think that (despite you applying toilet cleaner to be clean and nice & fresh) open the lid and thing, OMG, it looks like they haven'f flushed it in ages, or they're making cider in their toilet basin. They'll then go back to their friends and family saying things like, "that Mrs. Mable from number 43, you should see the state of her toilet! Shocking! Looks like she hasn't flushed it in ages! It was disgusting."
