Been keeping my eye on this as I missed the deal about a month ago. Back then it was £20 for prime members & £24 for standard. Now £22.50 for either which still seems good

I bought a plastic chopping board from Selfridges way back when they first came out and you couldn't get them many other places. The label it came with was really hard to remove and when I got it off , it left a very sticky residue which was picking up dirt etc, phoned then and they told me to take it back and get a replacement. Stroppy woman at Selfridges was reluctant to replace it but eventually did - it was not fit for purpose. But as others have said the board is easily marked and that didnt seem hygenic to me . Scratches, cuts and crevices can surely harbour germs more easily and harder to clean throughly. I got rid of it eventually . Wouldn't buy another JJ board - I think they are mostly style over substance.

We also have a different JJ carving board which is sloped (like this one) so that juices collect rather than run onto the counter which is a good design idea but the board itself is shiny plastic without any traction so the whole thing slides around when trying to carve. This one says non-slip so maybe they updated the design. We also have some nested bowls with lemon squeeze which looks good in the cupboard but rarely gets used. The folding chopping board is also a pretty good idea. Eventually the handle came off after 2-3 years but the board itself is still in use minus the handle.

The same happened to our folding chopping board and it is also about to split down one of the folds, but used and shoved in the dishwasher daily for the last 5 years.

This is the updated carving board with non slip rubber strips around the edges.

Yes and no. You're paying for the design atheistic most of the time. Only a few of their things are functionally much better than ordinary ones, in my opinion.

I have one of their dish racks for example because I loved this design. It's pretty and nice quality, but it has several design flaws. Water doesn't always drain from it because it's in two halves and they haven't made the back feet high enough, so it's pools in the middle. The utensil holder though it's really clever in the way it fits on the spikes, it's a complete nightmare to clean. Unless you live alone, it's a completely impractical size.

So erm, I like it. It makes my kitchen look smarter, but it's not quite the design marvel it might appear to be. I don't think most of it is worth it's money. I don't think I'd buy everything Joseph Joseph if I was moving somewhere new. Maybe just the odd piece.

This plastic carving board looks like an awful idea.

A lot of the 4 and 5 star reviews mention the softness of the plastic in many of Joseph Joseph products. I'm not here to argue with people but these are aimed at Apple owners, bang a big price on them, make the bright and funky at the cost of quality. it's a formula that works with Jones' type thinking higher price is better quality.

You won't find these products in a professional kitchen, they wouldn't last 5 minutes and the amount of plastic going into the food would have you shut down by the council. Good for decoration though so long as you don't use them.

Sorry if I offend Joseph Joseph owners that is not my intention but I would suggest when what ever product you have, that will be worn out in a few months, don't buy another to add to the plastic waste mountain.

I'm veggie.. there's virtually no foodstuffs I need a sharp knife for.

Bizarre. I eat mostly vegetables, and definitely want sharp knives for that.
I make a salad daily at lunch time with loads of veg (technically fruit a lot of it - let's call them salad items), and definitely want a sharp knife - e.g. tomatoes, carrot, red cabbage.

I would imagine a glass chopping board feels/sounds horrible too when cutting on.
Shinoke2nd Sep

Don't use glass, that's a terrible idea unless you like blunt knives.

I'm veggie.. there's virtually no foodstuffs I need a sharp knife for.
Bamboo is even better than wood no? And arguably environmentally better - can be at least.
Bamboo is generally stated to be antibacterial. Pretty hard too.

Don't use glass, that's a terrible idea unless you like blunt knives.

I do wonder about the health effects of using plastic too - especially when it's really soft. Ends up in your food?

Wood to be nice to have a bamboo index set. Actually argos sell one.
A better looking version of this would be nice:
