Very true, Skyrim SE needs some basic mods to bug fix and improve function and performance. The story itself is hokey, i never played it fully , and i hate dragons, they are like cockroaches. Tens of thousands of mods, just add ''Realistic Water'' to see a major improvement, if you can think of a mod...it already exists. If you haven't got SE, this is a very decent price. Modding is so easy these days, give it a try.

daniel.marriott

Remember playing this back in 2011 on my 360. Still never completed the second DLC.

Rickrude85

Make sure you download Vortex from Nexus Mods and then install the "Unofficial Bug Patch" it's constantly updated to fix all those issues. In the end I had about 36 mods activated - for quality of life (HUD on PC overhaul), graphics (HD textures, better lighting, better mesh models) and quests and inenvotry management. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/266

I hated this port. Did 1 quest and never played it again, it just feels awkward and clunky

Supposedly there are mods that turn it into a good port, but Im not sure how much faff it is all the installing and tweaking.

“Legendary Edition” is the original base game packaged with the expansions. It is identical to buying the game and expansions separately. It’s available on PC, 360, and PS3. “Special Edition” features an enhanced remake of the game engine, also released with all expansions as a single item. It’s available on PC, XB1, PS4, and Switch. (The Switch version is slightly sucky.) The below listed changes may not be exhaustive; they’re just what I could find on the matter. Technical & graphical changes: LE is 32-bit; SE is 64-bitMods are not intercompatible between the two; by this time, nearly every mod has been ported to SE and all “vital” ones are workingMods (and game in general) are more stable and run better with more stuff happening at onceBetter (vanilla) graphics (mods could already do basically all of this)Built-in godray supportRain and snow no longer go through walls and ceilingsTrees look way betterWater looks way betterLong hair can show from underneath helmetsExcept for PS4, audio appears to have been compressed improperly and is actually worse than the original game’sGameplay & content changes: (Most) console players can now install user-made modsXB1 players have 5.0GB of spacePS4 players have 1.0GB of space + mods are only able to use official assets already included in the vanilla gameSwitch players have nothing -_-Creation Club offers curated / “official” mods, but requires Real Money to purchase and download themPlayer movement is much more similar to Fallout 4 than before. You only need to tap Sprint once to keep sprinting. You will stop sprinting when you stop moving, not when you release the keyYou wiggle when you stop moving instead of stopping dead. You are no longer able to sprint-jump.It is no longer possible to skip multiple level ups by cancelling very quickly on PC; you have to take at least two in a row. (It is still possible to take only one at a time on console.)You can loot the Imperial Torturer’s hood if you escape from Helgen with the Stormcloaks. You can also get this hood from randomly spawning thieves. There are more spawn points for harvestable plantsVampire NPCs are considerably weaker than beforeSome NPC dialogue has been re-recorded or expanded uponQuality of life changes: Way faster load timesSegregates your save files by characterYou can press F5 to quick save and F9 to quick load (as in Morrowind.) This is separate from all autosaves and manual savesSwitch version changes: No user modsLooks worse (but better than original game did on 360/PS3)Optional motion controlsAmiibo supportBreath of the Wild Link outfit(I am 100% certain every other version of Skyrim has dozens of Link outfit mods)Bug fixes: Basically none :)

Bradmonk

If you have the DLC already, no. With a little bit of time, you can mod the original version to look far superior to the special version, which in my view doesn't look that great anyway. Which is why I never bought it.

FRZ

Is it worth getting Skyrim Special Edition if ive got the older/normal version already?

Three downloadable content (DLC) add-ons were released—Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn—which were repackaged into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Legendary Edition and released in June 2013. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition is a remastered version of the game released for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in October 2016. It includes all three DLC expansions and a graphical upgrade, along with additional features such as modding capabilities on consoles.

It was a little longer than that. I think around 2016. But I get your point. However, it may look a little better, but support for the game is likely ended and the engine etc it runs on are still old. Unless you consider something like shadow of Colossus which was a remake, not a remaster. I was maybe a little harsh though, the game is so good that I would 'overpay' for it if I hadn't already played it.

Barst

Didn't the SE version (with HD graphics) only come out at the end of 2016, making it 3.5 yrs old?

Na, besides aesthetics the game is completely hollow.

The witcher is still my favourite rpg and I honestly think it's the best ever made. The dlc is is just as good and better than a lot of full games. Did complete god of war a few weeks back though, it's not really an rpg though but it's also one of the best about.

PaulHM

It seems to be the original version of Skyrim which means that it is only really suitable for a none gaming laptop. It is best to buy the prettier special edition for a gaming PC. A more serious problem is that it includes no dlc. The dlc is expensive when bought separately. The original version with dlc is called the legendary edition. You can buy the legendary edition for £6.99 from cdkeys.com.

Special Edition with mods actually runs better than normal edition with mods due to it being stable on loading said mods, especially since SKSE64 and the ENB variant have been stable for a while now. Meaning loading hundreds and hundreds of mods won’t crash the game. Do keep in mind old edition 32 bit mods cannot work without a conversion to the Special Edition, unless it’s something like a texture, but even then some textures won’t work. Some mods though can never be converted. You’ll find they have separate mods on the mod pages. So do check that the mods you’re interested in have been converted to SE. Depending on the complexity of the mod, it’s not hard to convert. Although majority that you would use have been converted, aside from Enchanced Camera, which I think is Improved Camera now. Overall I personally wouldn’t bother with getting the old edition at this point over the Special Edition now. It might be worth checking if you still get the Special Edition for free on PC if you own the old version with all DLCs though.

daastle

Personally I'd say nexus mods if your computer can handle it.

matwalaboy

Good price for a lot of game time - for some reason when I searched it didn't show up - almost posted it myself ;)

BuzzDuraband

It's currently £10.02 with PayPal payment fees at Eneba using code AKS. I'll have a look around, see if I can see it cheaper.

It regularly goes down to £4.99 from CDKeys. I was on and off considering buying for about 3 years, always checked from time to time to see it at that price.

It's probably down to the fact that life gets in the way so it ends up not being played for months on end, at which point I forget where I am up to so decide I may as well start again. It was only on my previous play through a year ago that I finished the main quest for the first time.

scroterot

This is my favourite game on the Switch, it's just a shame they didn't add mod support for it like other versions (not officially anyway). Really tempted to build a PC for mostly running this and the VR version (plus loads of mods) once I've had my fill of the Switch version.

Xtranathor

If you're still finding new things them you aren't thorough enough :p Really though, I never finished Oblivion because I didn't finish the first quest, so I guess there's such a thing as too thorough (but Mage and Thieves guilds were too much fun) :)

It's a good point. Has anyone established if it auto links the key to the SE version when you get it from steam? I'm interested in this but suspect my graphics card may wheeze a bit, does anyone know if it runs well enough on the following Intel HD card?: :) Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4590 (Quad Core, 3.30GHz Turbo, 6MB, w/ HD Graphics 4600)

Weehamish

Youre missing my point... steam converts old games to the final editions at a certain point as it no longer sells the original versions... games such as darksiders and such will convert to the new version automatically. Im not sure if this key will do that as you cant actually buy the older version anymore.
