LASEK/LASIK eye surgery. Reviews and experiences.

Posted 3rd Aug 2023
Booked in for my consultation soon. Done a LOT of research and decided it is worth it for me. I don't think there can be such a thing as hearing too many reviews so reaching out to anyone on here who has had it to share their experience?

Also, who you had it with, cost etc.

Word of warning. I had this done about 15 years ago. I am now in a position that unfortunately, nothing to do with the laser eye treatment, but I have cataracts developing. My optician has now informed me that because I had laser eye surgery cataract removal is now no longer a straightforward procedure. Yes it was great at the time to be glasses free but consider this is a ‘for life decision’ and can affect you as you get older.

Had it done by Optical Express 15 years ago and I’ve been very happy. I chose the more expensive version of the procedure (based on research at the time) but I’ve long since forgotten the details

I do now wear glasses for driving but don’t need them for anything else

They used to have a referral scheme where you could save someone a lot of money with vouchers - sadly I no longer receive them

Thanks for the reply. I am also going with Optical express and will be taking the more expensive variant. It is currently called 'iDesign' and cost a couple hundred more.

Glad to hear you had great success

Thank you so much for pointing the referral scheme out!

Check out the reviews online for optical express.

I was going to have it last year and got scared away. Got some new glasses instead.

I had LASEK done, it's the better option if you do contact/water sports.

Some companies charge you based on your prescription, the one I used didn't.

    I paid 2.5K with a -3.75 prescription. (edited)

I has LASIK done at a private clinic near Harley Street many years ago.

The best thing I've ever done, haven't worn glasses or contacts for years and even I do require them in the years to come have already saved hundred, if not thousands.

Being able to run without contacts in has made it worth while on its own, let alone the day to benefits

I had the top level laser surgery in Budapest for £1100 inc for both eyes, at a time when it was over £3000 here.
Unfortunately for me, my brain tumour (unknown at that point) seems to have been the reason for the eyes going wrong, and so after having been "corrected" by laser, the tumour was removed, which would have taken them back to their starting point.
With flights around £40 each way, it is still worth looking at having it done in Hungary. Have a look at Focus Medical
