Parcelforce / delivery parcel size limits

I recently sent a parcel with Evri which was on the cusp of their size limits. They emailed me saying it was in excess and tried charging me extra - luckily I had photos of every dimension and could contest it.

I’ve a parcel now with parcelforce which is around 70-71cm and hence possibly just in excess of their 70cm maximum (one other side is already over 70cm at 76cm, so the 2nd side needs to be 70cm or less).

What are people’s experience of this, especially with parcelforce? Are they hot on it? The delivery cost is £15 but rises to £60 if it’s deemed the next size up. Cheers

In reality you will almost certainly get away with it. But you have to be prepared for them to delay the parcel and demand a payment for it being oversized, and not complain about it if they do.

Check with the other trusted courier companies to see if they can get you a better price for something that's actually within the size limits. If it's only a few pounds extra for example, it may make more sense to go with them rather than risking the step up to the £60 Tier with Parcelforce.

DX Have often been reasonably priced for me even with larger items, and I would personally trust them to deliver whatever item quickly and in one piece. DPD Local is generally decent too in terms of delivery service, but not so much for claiming compensation if you plan on insuring it.

Cheers haven’t seen DX before will look them up.
On the plus side it’s an item in its original box and the retailer states themselves the box dimension is 70cm. It’s just if it’s auto scanned I could see it being rounded to 71cm. I plan on insuring too so will look into DPD. The parcel is going a long way up the M6 so I wouldn’t call it local mind

Re size limits and Parcelforce - though this is about weight. Only been caught out once - tried to send a bulky >30kg item (annoyingly as it was so heavy I couldn't manually weigh it myself to check, so I went by Amazon's stated weight (just under 30kg) - and yep, I should've known better. Other vendors of the same item seemed to be parroting Amazon's details).

Anyway TL;DR: The postman came back with it, really annoyed actually - of course Parcelforce didn't refund me. Ended up selling it on Facebook Marketplace - eventually!

Turned out the manufacturer site (always refer to the manufacturer, folks) had the correct weight and it was over 30kg. (edited)

I use bathroom scales, they come in handy weighing bulky items.

I recently sent a soundbar with parcelforce and it cost over £60, they are the only non specialised carrier that will touch parcels over a certain size. Price didn't bother me as i had priced it in to the asking price.

And yes Parcelforce do check size and weights. (edited)
