Thanks for the recommendation and link! (y)

I've had one on a 13" for almost 7 years, it gives great protection. As you said it still looks new, when you take the cover off.

This is good for the 16", I have it on mine, also has a key cover and screen protector. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08218YDCD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00

Damn. In the market for a 16 inch one. Wonder if it's like shoes and you can risk going a size down and squeezing into them if you really like them...

This is such a good cover. I had one years and years ago and loved it (I no longer have a MacBook Pro). When I sold it the person, they couldn’t believe that it was 2nd hand as it literally was pristine

Don’t bother with the 15 and this is not worth buying if you just want to surf the web, play Music, etc. What don’t people get? These Macs are aimed towards people who work with OSX based software and need a higher performance machine to save time for their job. In my spare time, my phone does what i need to do, at work i need something like this as i use Mac only software for my job and i need to do it as quick as possible. I bought a custom 16 that paid for itself in a matter of weeks. Buy the right tool for the job, unless you have money to burn.

They are not specifically for meetings - the point I was making is that gamer laptops cannot be revealed in public! You can bang on about specs all you like, my MacBooks run better than your toy, fact.

For similar price you can get 2019 16" MacBook pro, which has much better keyboard, better CPU cooling and very slightly bigger screen. They should have discounted 15 inchers to 50% off to make any sense to buy them.

It all depends on what you use them for. From my experience with Apple hardware they last a lot longer than a few years and that is one reason I avoid cheaper Windows-based alternatives. Cheaper laptops are false economy, I’d have bought at least two in the time I’ve had my most recent MBP. That said, I use my MBP almost every day for work and it’s not once let me down, I’m a lot more productive due the the performance and that lets me justify the price. As I have repeatedly said, this price cannot be justified to the majority, but for those who use the machine daily for professional purposes, the investment is worth every penny. I use the word investment because it pays me back in time (saved from using a slower/unreliable alternative), which is more valuable than money. Imo.

I've been using Apple products for about 20 years, so you're preaching to the converted. Having said that, I don't think their products are actually worth what they charge for them really. That view has made me replace some of my Apple products with alternatives. If you can justify the price (or higher), that's ok. I disagree that a laptop of this price (or higher) can be considered an investment though. These are ultimately media/productivity tools that will need to be replaced/upgraded after a few years. The same is true of much cheaper machines.

I have had my MBP15 (late 2014) for over 5 years now and use it at least 5 days per week professionally. A £1000 laptop is not comparable to the MBP posted above so there is little point trying to justify that, and as you say, some people need (or prefer) macOS. This is a good price and if the 16” isn’t announced in the next 4 weeks I’ll be upgrading, although to a higher spec at around £3500. Because I can justify it, and I understand that some people can’t which is absolutely fine, but it doesn’t change my opinion that this is a good price for this particular model for those who will quickly make that investment back, likely in a month or two. Just because it costs more than a Windows laptop does not mean it should be cold. It’s a common problem Apple products face when being posted on HUKD. Some people cannot get their head around Apple products being (to those who need them) better nor understand that professionals see these products as key to their work and worth every penny. Catalina is fine on a clean install btw, it’s upgrades which are having the issues.

skinrush

Whilst I agree with the principle of what you're saying, who really 'needs' to spend circa £2,500 on a laptop? £1,000 these days gets you a pretty high end machine, specs and design wise. If your software needs require MacOS (eg design type software presumably) surely you'd be better served by a larger screened iMac at less money. OS Catalina is currently way too buggy to justify spending this sort of money on too, in my opinion.

It’s not just the hardware. It’s the environment and connection with other devices and the support is super. Try calling google when gmail don’t work or Microsoft when office dies. Very hard. Apple is overpriced but it’s a good product with great support.

gabesdad

I watched one of the videos from Linus who redid the thermal paste on the latest MacBook Pro’s I think which brought the temperature, and hence incidence of thermal throttling down. That should have been done properly in the factory to start with though!

No idea what I'll replace my 2015 mbp with. What I do know is that it certainly won't be a new MacBook. Prices absolutely crazy.

The only "mis-price" here is the original RRP.
