If the world of smartphones had a heavyweight champion or the top of the class, the iPhone X would be a prime candidate. With a huge screen, advanced video capabilities, a powerful CPU, and an elegant, lightweight design, this is one serious smartphone. It also comes with a serious price tag, but phone buyers can find the latest devices for less by checking out the iPhone X listings at HotUKDeals.

You could have bought a orchard for less

No you couldn't. Land is very expensive. As are trees mature enough to grow Apples.
But I get your point.
You could have bought a orchard for less
This would have to be cold based on the fact that the same company were selling this exact same item for £749 a month ago.
I'm all for saving money on Apple devices, but you'd be better off finding a reputable seller on ebay selling a new one for less money than this.
I know a multi-millionaire who likes to buy nice quality items, but second-hand, where possible. He bought an Aston Martin which was a few months old to save some money.
It's often worthwhile observing the habits of the rich. Success leaves clues.
I have been thinking what would be a good rule of thumb for how much to spend on a phone. For example, no more than £100-£200 plus 1% of your income. That would mean £350 maximum for £15k income and £950 maximum for £75k income. Or perhaps, a business phone should generate 100 times its value. Any thoughts on this idea?

The way in which the government spends and doesnt spend is criminal period. Its become a modern day Sheriff of Nottingham. We pay tax on our incomes before it even lands in our accounts. We then pay another tax in the form of vat on just about every single thing we buy. You want to pay and not try to avoid paying if you can help it? Then go for it but dont sell that old hogwash that you're peddling as justification for paying it. That argument is valid and true if the government was functioning in the best interests of the people it governs but it simply doesnt - the public/taxpayer is a cash cow and every single area of our lives comes with a bill and a way to penalise us in some inventive and insane manner.

Never once moaned about anyone not paying, if you can avoid it and are bold enough to try as well then, as the saying goes fortune favours the brave. We get charged way, way too much in the first place and receive very, very little in return now. Agree to disagree, I'm done. Mic drop

I am much in a similar boat but have owned android phones among them too.. Imho Android phones are based around features features and more features..whilst iPhones will maybe have 1 or 2 of those features but literally do them next to perfect.

Very tempted by the 8 too.. I just really wish they'd thrown the OLED screen in that rather than the IPS.

I purchased a MacBook Air some 3 years ago and found the company to be fab …I purchased a MacBook Air some 3 years ago and found the company to be fab ! It was a £300.00 saving at the time ! It arrived no problem ! And when it developed a fault this year - I took it to my local Apple store who checked it out and made a temp repair and told me I needed a new part (my daughter had spilt a drink on it a year ago and the sticky solution had created rust on some contact points within the lappy ) they advised me if it continued to play up it needed a part which would cost me £90 all in to repair ! No mention of me having bought this thing outside of the U.K. ! So as far as my opinion goes I wouldn’t hesitate to used them again ! And to be safe ! If your worried ! Use a credit card ! Problems solved !

Apple UK will honour warranty for UK, EU, EEA (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland etc) and some countries where they do not have any repair centres or agents like India.
They will also repair any Apple product that is not covered by the above for a fee.
This is what I was told by a Genius member when I took my step daughter's MacBook Air which I purchased from a seller on Amazon knowing it was a US import.
They replaced it as a gesture of goodwill.

There is, as long as you buy in the EU you’re covered anywhere in the EU (for now).

All the large manufacturers have regional companies, hence why there is an Apple U.K. and a Samsung UK which are both subsidiaries of their respective European business.

As it stands,if you want to buy from the HK subsidiary then you must also expect to use the HK subsidiary for warranty purposes.

Sadly not . We all know most phones ,laptops , in fact most electronic stuff is made in China . However if they are not subject to Apples/ Samsungs /LGs etc quality control and batch testing ,then sold by an official authorised distributer there will be no manufacturer warranty . Not just Apple the same goes for all the major brands probably even the Chinese brands that I can neither spell nor pronounce .

Do not buy from these clowns! Ordered a phone from them which said in stock, they took my money and even had the cheek to take a payment for next day delivery. I noticed on the tracking page it said awaiting stock but still said due for delivery tomorrow. I rang and was told it was out of stock despite the website still showing available stock an hour after I ordered. I spoke to Sonia first who was polite and she passed me on Jake who kept trying to talk over me, how rude. He made some pretty crappy offers for a smaller phone for another £80 or another phone for £180 more. I paid £610 instantly for a product they never had and now I have to wait up to 5 working days to get a refund 😡😡

Apple have become a fashionable brand. They can increase the price and …Apple have become a fashionable brand. They can increase the price and they will not suffer a profit loss because they will still attract millions of customers. Companies like Huawei and OnePlus have to sell their phones at what they are worth because their brand name alone isn't attractive enough.

Let’s face it, Apple spends more money on RnD than any ching chong company you can name on here, in order to offer the most integrated and sophisticated operating system for Mobile and stationary devices in the world. If you think you pay for hardware forget about it, many makes can match and surpass that, it’s the ecosystem as a whole NO ONE can compete with. Some don’t like it, but a whole lot of people do, you don’t become the biggest company on earth because you fooled everyone. If you can’t afford it don’t troll it just because of that. The envy brigade is all to present in these corridors. Just buy what you can afford and get the best you can get!

Sorry, but talking about £900 or £1000 thresholds on a phone is ridiculous. A £200-300 will easily do the same stuff.
And who knows what the previous owner did with it..

They do tell you they are on the margin scheme but they should make it clear - normally the VAT invoice will show '£0.00' and it should state it somewhere. It's not that well known but it's applicable for second-hand sales most usually seen in pawnbrokers, car dealers and antiques. We use it for our IT hardware a lot of the time, but it's particularly useful when it's C2B (e.g. a consumer selling back to a business, as the consumer generally doesn't have a VAT number). CeX are definitely margin sales.

While all hardware that comes into the store is tested to make sure it works, the warranty you get is awful. 24 months yes, but after 28 days it’s no cash back, only store credit. Meaning if your phone breaks in a month you’re stuck with a £900 voucher for CeX. Not to mention they won’t take something back on your word, let’s say you have that common iPhone battery issue where it jumps down to like 10% from a full charge. Well, they’d be happy to swap it for another phone, but only after they’ve seen the problem working I.e we need to take the phone and leave it say playing a video for however long it takes. If we don’t see the battery drop, sorry nothing we can do!while their reasonings are protecting the business and that it’s second hand and to be expected, it’s totally anti consumer and I only ever recommend buying games or DVDs from there, and that’s AFTER checking the disc before you buy it. With regards to people selling them at £600, CeX actually buy phones at launch for more than they’re worth. When I worked there I believe it was the 6 and 6 Plus, and they offered about £50-£100 more than it cost to buy it brand new sim free from Apple. We used to get lots of folk buying them at the midnight launch and then coming to our shop at 9am to sell them. I remember getting told why this was but can’t remember exactly, probably something to do with getting people in the door. In any case, stick with getting it brand new folks.

Whilst im not suggesting buying from CEX either.

The good thing with Apple is, If it breaks (Through no fault of your own) you can take it to an Apple store and they'll replace it immediately with a white box unit, which is practically like brand new. You dont need a receipt etc, unlike some other manufacturers where If you buy used youre stuffed If you dont have the oriiginal reciept.

So not only do you have a now working phone but you also have one that is free from scratches etc that your previously "mint" condition one had.

But yeah CEX sounds horrible espcially that store credit return policy - terrible, I'd be insulted If I came to return it and they offered £900 in store credit wtf

Something is fishy about these iPhone Xs as they're popping up left and right with these cash generator retailers.

No, it doesn't mean that. Current rate isn't necessarily the rate Cex paid for these.

Nothing fishy about the iPhone X in the context you mentioned - you also see Note 8s and the like popping up in these shops because some people take out expensive contracts to get expensive phones to easily flog to these shops and make a fast buck. This is completely typical of some sort of contract buyers and isn't exclusively an Apple thing.
heat for CEXas i like to trade in old equipment.
Mega cold for the iphone X , apple seem to constantly ratchet up prices each year,
the words computer and apple should never be mentioned in one sentence.

Cex , eBay , gumtree and some places cash converters are only places you can get rid of expensive electronic items without any problem. What you are saying is only partly true. Cex do insist on testing returned items before paying but they do pay back in cash . They took one week to refund me one time but I got my money back so had no regrets buying from them. As long as you save their receipts and stickers your refund is safe.

Easily start a competing business and sell the equivalent for less.

How absurd my statement sounds is still less than your statement.

I will 100% purchase from you if you decide to do it since I know a great mind wouldn't want to make a profit over your work.

They actually cost £270 in parts and I could sit and tell you why phones are worth so much but from your first comment, you seem to be a shallow minded bandwagon hater with no actual knowledge at all behind anything you say.
These cheap protectors are absolutely terrible, they will chip extremely easy, they probably won’t stick properly, they will break into a thousand pieces when you attempt to take it off, they will cause tons of glare and make it impossible to see your screen in the sun, they’re thick and aren’t rounded on the edges, list goes on.

Don’t buy a thousand pound phone and stick a nasty 90p protector on it. Spend a little more and get something from Anker at the least.

You will absolutely regret buying one like this.

I had one and had to change for one of the film types as even though only .3mm it does have an uncomfortable feel around the edge of the phone as the x uses all the screen area. I’m a dab hand with the film type protectors so no bubbles of fluff.

Film protectors are horrible. Glass ones feel like glass because they are. Plastic/PET film ones feel like plastic because they are - they do admittedly fit better and being thinner but that’s a very different experience to touching smooth glass (they also scratch without much effort).

Did your mummy and daddy give you one per chance? It's not a good deal …Did your mummy and daddy give you one per chance? It's not a good deal because there's better phones out there for a third of the price, simple. It's a brand, it's a gimic, it's a fashion accessory for morons that care more about being popular and cool than actually wanting a decent bit of technology. Cost to make versus cost to customer is obscene, there's nothing innovative about it that other manufacturers don't already have, Samsung are the same. This is coming from someone who just got rid of their iPhone 6S because it was a laggy, nonsense, piece of crapple after multiple OS upgrades.

Actually when i look at a post i am not comparing it to another product cause that seems silly... should be looking at is this a good deal for this product and unless you can find it cheaper elsewhere then it would be decent for this product. For people comparing to android phones is silly cause they aren't the same software etc
I got my phone on Friday and loving it BUT moving from Three to O2 I have noticed that the 4G speeds is a lot slower than Three.
