Have you looked at Panasonic LUMIX TZ range? I bought the Mrs the TZ30, which has a 24x Zoom and takes some stella photos (just don’t put the ISO up to high) has built in GPS tagging of the photos (this can lead to quicker battery drain if the camera is left on standbye instead of turned off) the video quality is great too shooting at 1080p 60fps. You can also buy a waterproof housing for them off eBay for a reasonable price to use underwater or just make it more rugged

It all depends on your needs. I’ve got the A6000 and love it. Although to get an equivalent level of zoom will cost a couple of 100£ more. The A6000 is a much batter semi pro/pro camera and takes lovely videos as well as fantastic photos with what was the worlds fastest autofocus system able to take and refocus 11 shots per second. Compared to the 5.9 of the canon it’s no comparison. Just down to how you plan to use the camera and what you expect to achieve out of it. Hope this helps

This might sound as though I’m going off at a bit of a tangent ... but please bear with me ... I bought a GoPro Hero 5 Black thinking that it would be fine for taking the odd video with but mainly to take photographs with - I realise now that it doesn’t really suit my needs. What I do like about it is that it connects to my ‘phone so I can save and send pictures .... I like that it is waterproof (although I have added a waterproof case) but what I can’t really get on with is the size - it’s just too small. Does anyone else have these issues ? Back on track ... is this Canon camera the answer ? How robust is it ? How easy does the Wi-Fi connect to an iPhone to send and save pictures? Does it have GPS so that your pictures are geo-tagged with the location? What’s the battery life like? Any suggestions for the ideal camera with all of those features would be appreciated. Thanks ....

Or a Pana TZ. Sony HX80/90V Good as well.

This or would you pay an extra 100 for the sony

Just got a L2P5 so i was on the lookout for one of these. 2 days ago it was £45+5 from toolstop on amazon. It might have been yesterday infact.

I use a Leica laser level, fantastic for mid range/top end gear. Not sure how relevant it is to a tripod (I use the amazon basics one, gets great reviews).

Point being caller? Is that this?

But its 4x the price?? Its bound to be. Anyone looking for a budget tri-pod this is a bargain. I have had a Hama tri-pod for over 20 years, only one of the six locking clips has recently failed (I know, it only takes one for the whole stand to be somewhat compromised!) but that has only happened after I foolishly gave the stand to my 3 young daughters who had for some reason really got into making up and filming short Harry Potter stories and recording themselves on an old Panasonic Mini DV Camcorder I gave them. The stand still works, I just have blu-tak wrapped around the faulty clip to hold it in place. If you are just looking for a cheap and cheerful tri-pod for occasional use this would be fine. If you are a serious photographer with a £2k DSLR why are you even looking at this as an surely should be looking at something in the same league as your camera?

Do you have a link please? I'm not seeing that anywhere on Amazon.

Just replaced this Hama with a Velbon ef61. World of difference.

Try from £15.26 or a monopod from £8.26 inc DELIVERY

Why do you need that to buy a Used item when you can get a New one for 34p extra?

Got this yesterday. Used it as platform to photograph constellations last night. Splendid piece of kit for the money. Much better than the £13.99 48in tripod bought previously, which is now to be returned. Timely post. Thanks.

Cheers, Brilly, I'll ask him more about it when he's on Skype and edit this post.

generally they are a bit optimistic for real usage as the weight will be assumed to be exactly balanced and level over the centre column i see the scope has a tripod collar.. is it adjustable at all to change the position of where it screws into the tripod? does it support it ok when kept level?

I bought (well, boyf did) the 52" version of this for use with a Praktica Spotting Scope but he says he can't secure it properly (it supposedly can handle the weight)? Bit of a long shot, but wondering if anyone has any ideas.

I got the student discount and it came round to be cheap! thanks for the spot :)

Well, testing myself (which of course I've done - got to know your equipment), I clock in at around 9.2s to extend my clip tripod, and 9.7s to extend my twistlock one. It's a tiny bit slower (at this point, at least - things will speed up as I grow more accustomed to the device), but I'm okay with that because the twists feel nicer on the hand than clips do on the fingertips. Not sure what you mean about 'indeterminate to unlock and tighten', btw. Maybe you should try actually using the thing you're talking about, rather than just hazarding a guess.

I guess yeah you can't see visually if the twists are locked or not. It's a personal thing but in cold weather and a rush I find the twists easier on the hands and fingers and can do them all in one go. It's gonna be a marmite thing but the tripod itself and its versatility is a bonus.

bit confused here, do you not need to tighten them all up separately? on my tripod i can undo all levers at once as well. then when open i move hand down the leg in a straight line squeezing each lever without having to twist etc just know that with twist lock id forget to tighten one as cant immediately see which is tight or not

Don't let @toaster see this (popcorn) :D

Personally I've had a manfrotto with levers for the last year and found it more time consuming outdoors when you're struggling with elements etc. This new twist lock seems a lot easier as when bringing the legs down you can untwist all three points at once with your hand, bit of a time saver for me and feels easier, especially with cold hands 👐

Regarding the weight, discussed earlier. It's definitely no light weight, but I had it out today strapped to my backpack with camera and 3 lenses. I knew I was carrying something extra, but it wasn't anything over the top. Plus, the extra stability was much appreciated on top of some very windy fells.

I got two of the £15 folding ones which were £12.75 with the discount. My total order was for £41 and the assistant initially wouldn't take the voucher off my phone. A pregnant pause later and as I was saying "oh I won't bother then" i.e. you can put all this back on the shelf, then suddenly he called to a colleague about having a printout of the voucher on one of the tools and used that. Quite impressed by the light output and the thought that has gone into the design. Came with a car charger as well as mains although I don't think this ones turns red.

They were also available in twin packs without the stand for £10. I went for the twin pack as it gave potenially twice the light output.

I bought 3 tonight. Really pleased with them and will come in handy for a lot of things. Detailing a car being one of them with the LED lights

Loads at Cromer Norfolk, nb, they didn’t appear that bright for the size of it.

I had it downloaded from Homebase website on my phone, just told them up front, they have a bar-code at tills to scan that applies the discount, no issues, just be upfront and polite and you should be fine.

The Honor View 10 has a similar camera setup to the Mate 10 Pro - both have dual rear cameras; one RGB (colour) lens and one monochrome lens. Both monochrome lenses are 20MP, but the Mate 10 Pro has a 12MP RGB lens whilst the View 10 has a 16MP RGB lens. On the other hand, the Mate 10 Pro's cameras have Leica lenses, which is a well-respected camera company. Both have the same front and rear portrait mode. Both cameras also have the same AI-powered object detection and real-time translation. According to DxOMark, a trusted camera comparison site, the Mate 10 Pro is rated second to the Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL. So, the final answer? The cameras are pretty much the same. The View 10 has slightly more MP, but the Mate 10 Pro has Leica lenses. I'd still prefer the Mate 10 Pro...

How does the camera compare to Mate 10 Pro or Pixel XL?

I've really been considering the Mate 10 Pro recently - it's a stunning beast of a flagship. But for around £250 less, the View 10 has the same AI processor and a similarly brilliant camera. That said, I think the Mate 10 Pro looks a lot nicer - with the glass back and smaller top and bottom bezels, and it also has IP67 certification. Any recommendations/advice?

5T will hold it's price better.

This or the 5t. Not sure if I'm convinced of the AI in the 970.

Poppy tripod lamp @ homebase instore for £15
Found 19th Dec 2017Found 19th Dec 2017
Poppy tripod lamp in white only was £39.88 now £1

Does the wire come out one of the legs at the bottom of the tripod or at the top where the lamp shade is? I’d rather not have a dangling wire in the middle of the tripod.

Went and picked one up from Bingley earlier today, still quite a few left. The picture above is a bit misleading- the legs are pure white so doesn't look incredibly stylish, plus the quality of the legs aren't great particularly around the joins- you can tell it's cheaply made if you have a closer look. But not bad for £15!

Carlisle had a displayed price of £39. After some checking, I was told that the ones in white boxes are £39, the identical ones in black boxes are reduced to £15. Luckily they found me 2 black boxed ones :-) The assistant said they'd had 6000 price changes through on Monday, they hadn't got around to putting special price stickers on every yet. Thanks OP.

Two living rooms and a Conservatory - not a castle by any stretch of the imagination :) Enough to warrant three lamps and a fourth as a spare.

You must live in a castle then? (skeptical) Ive just popped in and bought one.

Got mine today, makes it 3 weeks and 1 day. You have to adjust the eyepiece as well as the focussing wheel above, to get a good view - but it's pretty impressive for just under £7! Wouldn't want to risk cracking/scratching my glass protector with the phone clip, but the tripod is useful - the legs and screw are metal, though the feet and connecting piece are plastic. Seems to be various clones of this all over Aliexpress/Amazon/ebay, some even state 40x60 magnification which is a bit cheeky!! As other reviewers mention, I'd guess this is 8x or 10x magnification. Bought another clone of the Panda for my brother-in-law (we often joke how nosey and how much of a curtain twitcher he is, so it's perfect for him) Edit: Actually, tinkering around with mine, I've noticed there's nowhere for me to screw the tripod stand in (?!). On the underside there's only a hook for the carry strap. Sent a ticket to Gearbest, hopes aren't high that I'll get a reply that makes sense...we'll see.. Tested side-by-side with Steiner 10 x 26mm Safari Binoculars - I'd say they're similar magnification - the Steiner is *slightly* larger. Another Edit: The little "hook" actually unscrews to allow you to fit the tripod. D'oh.

Shipped around an hour ago! Quickest Gearbest order ever!

It'll be fine [apparently] - the sun is more than 500m away and this only works up to 500m [according to the amuzing review]

Managed to order one, not convinced it won't be rubbish but we'll see.. in about a month lol

Yep. The panda one has a larger objective lens, so more light, brighter image, possibly more magnification, built-in compass, and the mobile clip. You pays your money you takes your choice!
