HALF PRICE!! Manfrotto 190GO! Aluminium Tripod with a Half Price 494RC2 Mini Ball Head £99 delivered at Jessops

No way are twist locks as quick as levers. The qickest way to open and …No way are twist locks as quick as levers. The qickest way to open and extend a tripod is to keep it folded then open all the levers at once and let the legs fall in unison then lock the legs with the tripod still closed. This is not possible with twist locks as you must open the legs of the tripod up to get a hand grip on the round locks then do some indeterminate twisting to unlock and tighten (how much is too tight etc) with the legs at all angles. Levers are on or off, there is no doubt as to the force needed to tighten, that's why they took over from twist locks in the Seventies. Only Gitzo diehards put up with this hassle but I guess now that Manfrotto and Gitzo are under the same owner, Manfrotto thought they may go for a 'cool' retro look or something with this range.

Well, testing myself (which of course I've done - got to know your equipment), I clock in at around 9.2s to extend my clip tripod, and 9.7s to extend my twistlock one. It's a tiny bit slower (at this point, at least - things will speed up as I grow more accustomed to the device), but I'm okay with that because the twists feel nicer on the hand than clips do on the fingertips.

Not sure what you mean about 'indeterminate to unlock and tighten', btw. Maybe you should try actually using the thing you're talking about, rather than just hazarding a guess.

I guess yeah you can't see visually if the twists are locked or not. It's a personal thing but in cold weather and a rush I find the twists easier on the hands and fingers and can do them all in one go. It's gonna be a marmite thing but the tripod itself and its versatility is a bonus.

bit confused here, do you not need to tighten them all up separately?

on my tripod i can undo all levers at once as well. then when open i move hand down the leg in a straight line squeezing each lever without having to twist etc

just know that with twist lock id forget to tighten one as cant immediately see which is tight or not

Ordered one last night came today! Amazing quality. I truly recommend it. Dont risk your expensive gear with a cheap tripod get one of these. Came with a free pan and tilt head. Superb service from Jessops.
Got one thanks
Regarding the weight, discussed earlier. It's definitely no light weight, but I had it out today strapped to my backpack with camera and 3 lenses. I knew I was carrying something extra, but it wasn't anything over the top. Plus, the extra stability was much appreciated on top of some very windy fells.

I got two of the £15 folding ones which were £12.75 with the discount. My total order was for £41 and the assistant initially wouldn't take the voucher off my phone. A pregnant pause later and as I was saying "oh I won't bother then" i.e. you can put all this back on the shelf, then suddenly he called to a colleague about having a printout of the voucher on one of the tools and used that.
Quite impressed by the light output and the thought that has gone into the design. Came with a car charger as well as mains although I don't think this ones turns red.
They were also available in twin packs without the stand for £10. I went for the twin pack as it gave potenially twice the light output.

How does the camera compare to Mate 10 Pro or Pixel XL?

The Honor View 10 has a similar camera setup to the Mate 10 Pro - both have dual rear cameras; one RGB (colour) lens and one monochrome lens. Both monochrome lenses are 20MP, but the Mate 10 Pro has a 12MP RGB lens whilst the View 10 has a 16MP RGB lens. On the other hand, the Mate 10 Pro's cameras have Leica lenses, which is a well-respected camera company. Both have the same front and rear portrait mode. Both cameras also have the same AI-powered object detection and real-time translation.

According to DxOMark, a trusted camera comparison site, the Mate 10 Pro is rated second to the Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL.

So, the final answer? The cameras are pretty much the same. The View 10 has slightly more MP, but the Mate 10 Pro has Leica lenses. I'd still prefer the Mate 10 Pro...

But for around £250 less, the View 10 has the same AI processor and a similarly brilliant camera. That said, I think the Mate 10 Pro looks a lot nicer - with the glass back and smaller top and bottom bezels, and it also has IP67 certification. Any recommendations/advice?

Poppy tripod lamp in white only was £39.88 now £1
Does the wire come out one of the legs at the bottom of the tripod or at the top where the lamp shade is? I’d rather not have a dangling wire in the middle of the tripod.
Went and picked one up from Bingley earlier today, still quite a few left.
The picture above is a bit misleading- the legs are pure white so doesn't look incredibly stylish, plus the quality of the legs aren't great particularly around the joins- you can tell it's cheaply made if you have a closer look. But not bad for £15!
Carlisle had a displayed price of £39. After some checking, I was told that the ones in white boxes are £39, the identical ones in black boxes are reduced to £15. Luckily they found me 2 black boxed ones :-) The assistant said they'd had 6000 price changes through on Monday, they hadn't got around to putting special price stickers on every yet. Thanks OP.

Got mine today, makes it 3 weeks and 1 day. You have to adjust the eyepiece as well as the focussing wheel above, to get a good view - but it's pretty impressive for just under £7!

Wouldn't want to risk cracking/scratching my glass protector with the phone clip, but the tripod is useful - the legs and screw are metal, though the feet and connecting piece are plastic.

Seems to be various clones of this all over Aliexpress/Amazon/ebay, some even state 40x60 magnification which is a bit cheeky!! amazon.co.uk/gp/…4SL

As other reviewers mention, I'd guess this is 8x or 10x magnification. Bought another clone of the Panda for my brother-in-law (we often joke how nosey and how much of a curtain twitcher he is, so it's perfect for him)
32802742-c8ceY.jpgEdit: Actually, tinkering around with mine, I've noticed there's nowhere for me to screw the tripod stand in (?!). On the underside there's only a hook for the carry strap.

Sent a ticket to Gearbest, hopes aren't high that I'll get a reply that makes sense...we'll see..
32802742-z49l4.jpgTested side-by-side with Steiner 10 x 26mm Safari Binoculars - I'd say they're similar magnification - the Steiner is *slightly* larger.

Another Edit: The little "hook" actually unscrews to allow you to fit the tripod. D'oh.

Vast majority of higher end camera tripods don't come with a head, so I don't think that should be held against this one. Main problems in terms of use for photography are the height and lack of leg angles.
You can return almost all non personalised items under distance regs and some retailers even pay for return postage. No need to sell this on ebay, just return it if not suitable
Edited by: "jayok" 28th Aug 2017
Surely a ball or three way head fitted to it would enable camera use? And add a bit to the height. Not every tripod user needs a 5-6foot tripod you know!

I was just wondering in case it COULD be used as a camera tripod. Thanks for the reassurance, added head though

I tend to agree with Brilly above. The 1/4"W screw will (probably) fit a camera, but it would look a bit daft and would be nowhere near as good as a camera triopod (the photographer will have to kneel and there will be no level adjustment except by moving the legs).

It is hard to understand why this posting has attracted any heat at all, this is a very specialised item with a tiny market (I suspect no market al all for subscribers to HUKD unless there is another professional surveyor out there, and one that buys his own survey instruments). I suspect people saw the photo in the headline and what appeared to be a low price, put 2 and 2 together, made 5 and voted hot, when they should have left it well alone because they did not understand what it was. I think this often happens with the HUKD website. Some blame for the confusion is attributable to the original poster for not understanding what he/she was adverstising (again, I think this happens quite often with this website).

Some damage has been done in that at least one person has bought something he/she will have no use for (caveat emptor applies of course). It might be best to try to sell the item on (eBay maybe) but the market will be limited, or find another use for it (perhaps the base for a nice coffee table?)

:-)
Edited by: "othen" 28th Aug 2017
imo this is getting heat based on the previous tripod which COULD have been used for a camera
without a head and the low size is going to limit its functionality even for the laser sighting never mind making it virtually unusable for a camera
