Better option at Olson's on special . . .

Helpful
This is a useless piece of trash. The metalwork is of such thin gauge you can bend the frame without trying! At £1.99 I would still give it a miss. Better option at Olson's on special . . .
TC has this:
"Place a reserve and pay-instore or purchase online for collection in store on maplin.co.uk for £10 or more between Friday 1st December and Wednesday 6th December 2017 and receive a free £5 voucher and spend between Tuesday 26th December and Monday 8th January 2018 inclusive.

So, if click and collect, you need two trips. Not for me as my nearest store is in more than 10 miles away

Thinking of getting something for sawing and painting fence and shed …Thinking of getting something for sawing and painting fence and shed panels and timbers. till now have been doing this on the grass with a double of blocks of wood to raise panel of post off the ground. Or against the hedge. But it's getting wetter as summer is over.Is two of these as good if not better than getting a couple of saw horses, like the ones in Aldi currently at £20?

Get a couple of the Saw horses and probably 4 x 8" or bigger quick clamps.
Works fine for me, though I fudge it with only 2 clamps. Should buy more.
Make sure you buy 2. One is not good enough. Very flimsy. I purchased 2 last time and it is perfect.
I got one of these a long while ago. Chopped some wood outside and forgot about it. Its been outside about a year and its still like new haha!
As others have mentioned it clearly says £2.99 delivery

The Aldi saw horses are definitely better for sawing on and more stable but lack the ability to hold items whilst sawing or planing or chiseling items that will fit that you might want to do at a later date. Stability with these will decrease the more you use them. The choice is yours.

Bought two, two broke. Bought 2 of the cheapest b&d workmates for a little more, both still work and have had a lot more abuse with no problems. Honestly, don't bother... False economy buying this tat.
you get what you pay for.. I got it som etime ago and not happy... Piece of crap.. Legs very fragile, very small. I regret spending £10 on it.
I was going to suggest getting a genuine Workmate from Amazon for £12, but unfortunately they've put the price up. It was £12 for months.

I saw this instore, I thought it was something only a few stores had.

Mate the only thing i've lost is time to a troll who acts like a 5 year old and £20 on cheap tat that can't do anything near what it's advertised to do.

I know the deals over now, but for anyone looking at these... don't be as tight as I was and spend a little more on something that'll actually last and work for any diy job you'd need to use it for in the future. Who buys a workbench just for cutting some plastic guttering? Mental.

I'm honestly not sure how that makes me a bad workman when its made of cheap plastic? Its not like I was hitting it with a hammer or I'm the incredible hulk. I used them for light DIY to make some shelving units for under the stairs, not exactly expecting high performance but they couldn't even handle that. Lets be honest, the £20 b&d ones I have aren't exactly professional quality but they've already outlasted these cheap ones and believe me, they're much more stable.Personal insults when someone had a different experience to you? You know nothing about me.

These are OK but the legs use a very brittle plastic, when I was folding mine up the legs use a kind of "lever/fulcrum" system to pack the table together. Something was obviously not aligned right inside so the force on the top bit of the leg ended up snapping it off!

Whole table rendered useless. Luckily it was under warranty and Screwfix replaced it, but it's obviously a known fault as I noticed the replacement had bright yellow warning tape on it saying "Don't use the legs to open the table".

Also it is a faff to open and close, there's not much tolerance.

It is very portable and very good at the functions it is limited to but … It is very portable and very good at the functions it is limited to but nowhere near as versatile as an old B&D Workbench. Sadly the new B&Ds are garbage and this is better than those for most things but still not great. In fairness it is OK at this price. The folding system is very clever and I suspect this is what wows people but as a working tool, I prefer my 30 year old B&D.

Are the newer non-cheap ones bad too?

Someone was selling an old one near me recently for a tenner, it went quick, I would have bought it for the new price of current ones!
I got this from screwfix for £30 its not bad not brilliant I have one side locks easy one is a pain and its a bit heavier & bulkier than I thought it would be but it is sturdy has some cons to a B&D but has more pro's for me. Glad I only paid £30 for it myself but this is the best price you can get for one at the moment.

I think they are all pretty similar with what they fit. Mine fits up to 14 inches (distance between front to back holes) and up to 30 inches (left to right holes). So as long as your feet fall with those dimensions, you should be OK.

nobody will pay 80quid for that. You can get it for that price at Amazon for better brand like Black & Decker 2 weeks ago
I bought one of this about 2 months ago. It has been about that price on clearance for quite a while. I wouldn't say I was super pleased with it but I'm not going to vote this cold, in fact I will tick it as hot because what I'm about to say regards the product itself rather than the deal being obtained for those who want to buy it regardless.

Firstly, I'm going to say that it definitely isn't worth £80. It should never have been at that price as you would expect to get a better workbench for that price. But at £35 is it worth it? I dunno for sure but it depends what you need it for. I got it to do general diy stuff and I've already used it to cut laminate flooring with my jigsaw. It did the job. It wasn't rock solid and sturdy but I don't think that I would have received a much better service or a lot more ease with one that was.

What I don't like is that it feels quite wonky. Some things are not properly aligned. Again for £35, that's perhaps excusable but for £80 I would have felt robbed. I think the problem was that I expected a solid piece like the one you see in the picture worth £80 .. it's metal after all but when I put it together, it didn't feel great.. it felt more £20'ish (pre-brexit) or £30'ish (now).

Would I have bought it if I had experience using it? It depends if there's an alternative one which feels MUCH more solid while it also has some of its key features, such as foldable, adjustable height and clamps etc (I would even be prepared to pay a little higher say up to £60). I there's no such alternative on the market, then I would say its a decent buy .. because the solidness only carries you that far for a non-serious (or occasional diy) user

Good luck with whatever you decide. Perhaps if I've managed to lower your expectation a little, then when YOU use it .. it might feel a lot better.

Just got mine for £20 (used Nectar points). Better quality than the store own brand ones that I break within a year or so but defo not worth the supposed £70 rrp.

ours wasn't much use and we ended up giving it away!
I agree with "roberts432"; compared to the one I bought 10/15 years ago this one is rubbish. It's thinner steel and as a consequence is as usefull as a chocolate fire guard. In use it's wobbly and unstable.
I took the one i bought back to the shop and replaced it with a Bosch one (it cost more but was well worth it).

pointless purchase unless your doing really lightweight work its really light weight and far from stable. i wouldn't pay £10 for it.
nice thanks
I picked one of these up a couple years ago. It's not at all strong, bends at the hinge and has let me down many times. I would suggest you only consider one of these if you are working with very light weights. I upgraded to a second hand workmate as soon as I could.
