Richardson Sheffield / Sabatier. Quality knives that will last a lifetime …Richardson Sheffield / Sabatier. Quality knives that will last a lifetime if kept sharp.

Sabatier means literally nothing, anyone in the world can use it. Richardson Sheffield collapsed in 2007 and anything but their 1839 range is pretty rubbish.

Mercer are fantastic and are used by many culinary schools in the UK and something like 9/10 in North America. Near Wusthof quality for a lot less.

Yep, the ones they sell in TK Maxx are utter naff. Been using Victorinox for the last 5 years, very good knives.

just remember OP, decent knives should not ever be "dish washered"
We run a mix of richardson sheffield sabatier (the knife block set) ..its good enough for most.
However & i'm going to run the gauntlet here, my skeleton knife (cut outs) is excellent for both cheese slicing AND cutting offal (heart, liver , kidney that I batch process around 15 kg at a time from semi frozen through to fresh)

AND I am impressed with my cheapo B&M 3 knife set which comes with a decent sized santoku knife (my go to knives) £3.99 in a blister pack, ..all knives need a sharpener from the word go! ..the santoku positively excels.

& ok to go in the dishwasher, I have 2 of these & another brand as well on my magnetic rack.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I never said Sabatier means anything.

I've been using Sabatier Richardson knives for many years and never had an issue with them. They certainly aren't rubbish!!

I have numerous friends who are chefs, college lecturers and in the restaurant industry that have used or still use these knives and they have never said a bad word about them.

I don't imagine the average home cook would be looking for professional grade knives.

Get some global’s you can pick a block and 5 knives for £250 which is good as you can pay £100 plus for 1 knife...

years ago sabatier and wusthof knives were good they were German made heavy knives, they were the go to knives but German not Richardson.... most people I know now use global there light well balanced and easy to keep sharp...

Just bought one of those knife blocks with the brush insert. It allows you to put any knife in it as you don’t need a slot!
