YouTube Premium Price Increase

Posted 20th Oct 2022
Anyone seen the email ??

"We created YouTube Premium to provide an uninterrupted YouTube experience, so that you can get closer to the videos, creators and music artists that you love. To continue delivering great service and features, we will be increasing your Premium family plan price from ARS 179.00/month to ARS 699.00/month."

Pretty big increase I think, but a google search reveals it's happening across the board - not just Argentina.

How does one change from Argentina to Turkey or any other country? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

    1. Went into YouTube settings and changed location to Turkey
    2. Went into subscription and cancelled sub. There were several warnings about everybody losing access etc. Confirmed cancellation
    3. Connected VPN to Turkey
    4. Clicked restart YouTube premium
    5. Prices had changed to Turkish lira (59.99)
    6. I had to input card details again, but no addresses etc
    7. Sub was confirmed
    8. Disconnected VPN

This is why I think people who use regional pricing to take advantage are scummy.

Argentinians need these prices, you don't

Any simple guide to change to Turkey would be appreciated !

Someone can correct me. But i believe you cancel. Then delete your payment profile for ARG. Set up a payment profile for Turkey. Then follow steps to sign up to Turkey via VPN

Just got this to work on a turkish individual acount, showed as 299 try so about £15, had to change locations on windscribe a couple of times but finally went through.

Cancelled and trying to resub via India as it's now cheaper but keep getting a bank declined payment error no matter what card I use. Tried going back to Arg and same error.

I wouldn't cancel just yet to shop around...

As an addendum to this, I've read an article by TechCrunch which states that Turkey price increases will only impact individual users, not the family account. So fingers crossed, it'll stay at 59.99 TRY (£2.85) pm

My individual sub was 119 ARS (currently 69p) going up to 389 ARS (currently £2.25)

Yep.....dame here! Still cheaper than everywhere else!

It has more than doubled in Turkey as well.

What is on YT that google thinks is worth £20 per month? All I seem to see is reaction videos, rap and similar nonsense, The Beast, clips from films / tv shows that are inevitably fight sequences, gamers, and little that can't realistically be found on mainstream tv. They don't even offer you the opportunity to block the rubbish you don't want to see.
If you were after the music then take advantage of the 85p Tidal plan. (edited)

720,000 hours of content are uploaded to YouTube every day. If you can't find anything to watch, that's on you.

And I'd wager that you're probably not even logged in because if you click on the 3 dots underneath any video you get a choice of either "Not Interested" or "Don't Recommend this Channel" for any "rubbish you don't want to see".

I'd like to know what the cheapest region is now also, £4+ is a lot when I only really use it for not having to watch ads on YouTube.

It's just a matter of finding out which country the pound is performing the worst in I suppose. It might even be Turkey.

I'll have a nose around later on.
  10. SassyTheeSasquatch's avatar
    Turkey is £2.88 now

    Is it family?
  11. phillipbrown1's avatar
Has anyone changed to Turkey yet? If its as straight forward as it was I'll do that but saw someone above mention Google have tried to make it so your card gets checked or something. Can someone confirm one way or the other please
    phillipbrown1's avatar
Yeah only monthly. I think annually is only available for single members not family
  12. rev6's avatar
I paid for October > November only yesterday in ARS (£0.70). Cancelled that now and signed up to Turkey annual plan. No faff. £14.72 for the year. (edited)

I'd probably do the yearly plan if it auto-renewed ..

I posted and said I was concerned about being able to change from arg to Turkey easily. Nord vpn wouldn't let me do it. Google knew I was in the UK and at one point thought I was in UAE but I used ad guard for free and it worked. Think it's saves about 1.50 a month which I realise isn't anything but better in my pocket.

Anyone tried the same for Google Drive and has been successful?
Has not worked for me after my tries so far!

Plenty of people claim to have successfully tried it but I've tried it a few times myself without much success.

    That's a lot of Ars

It was bound to increase at some point and nothing lasts forever. Understand it's a fourfold increase but I got the whole family using it for the last 12 months, across a load of devices (android and iPhone). It was unseemly at just over £1 a month. Bit annoyed tonight to read it will be £4 a month but thinking and reading more into it I could've paid £17.99/£19.99 a month via UK. Seems a lot of messing about to save 70p a month to switch countries and risk losing it all together and not to mention the faff! Will stick for now but each is own
    isaac.cummins's avatar
Agreed. So many people saying that they're doing that and I just don't get it. It's still a huge saving and to risk losing it is probably not a good idea.

I just don't think I could use Youtube the way I do with advertisements to the point where if I was forced to I would probably go back to paying the UK price.

    Just got the same email.

Wonder if the other cheap regions have such a big increase. (edited)

Might be worth looking around, but this increase is happening across the board. In the US it's going from $17.99 to $22.99.

Where's the cheapest region now?? Quite the price jump
  19. Balb0wa's avatar
Just got the email myself ,it's still pretty cheap.

Out of all the paid streaming apps ,I probably watch the most stuff on you tube.

Why has the Argentina price increased fourfold and other regions haven't?

Is it because they know many of us are UK based and let it slide till now?
    rs990's avatar
The Argentine Peso has completely collapsed over the last couple of years and the inflation rate is nuts, so it was probably due a big increase

    What a load of ARS

Are people really going to move countries over a few quid? Come on now. lol
    B_Marvel's avatar
I have no doubt a lot with individual plans will as it's pretty much hassle-free.

I can't imagine the hell I'd face from the family if I tried to save a few quid and ended up bricking it.

My first increased payment left my account today at £3.47.

£1.10 in October, £1 in November and now this. It's still worth it though.

My payment for next month has just gone out for family at the staggeringly high price of one whole pound !
    KongDonkey's avatar
Yes that's my Argentina family cost as well. I was expecting more. Will see what happens next month. May not need to move to Turkey after all.
  30. krankup's avatar
Yep. About £4 a month now.

Everyone doing this accepts that it'll end one day. A £3 jump is pretty steep to be fair, but it's still worth it considering you get YouTube music free with it as well.
  32. lucifon's avatar
India works out to roughly £2

paying 179 ARS per month for family, just got email its going up to 699, so long youtube will go back to not watching on my phone and adblock on my mobile
  36. Grohller's avatar
Annoying, is it cheaper dropping down to the single user plan? .. I generally only use 1 or 2 subs max.. my mum and gf won't be happy though.
    deleted2130460's avatar
give it one month there start paying you then go back to family plan
  37. geedundee_'s avatar
Get YouTube on firestick. Smart tube app. 20£ a month. These subscription services, christonabike.

When they start encoding ads as part of the stream all the apps etc will no longer work.

    No, individual accounts too
  39. Nexus162's avatar
Signed up yesterday! Doh! Just my luck! £4 is still not bad though. Better than UK prices!
    iBird90's avatar
Just to check when you signed up did you have any issues verifying your payment method?

Also I'm assuming you were using a credit/debit card issued in the UK?

I ask as someone cancelled to try and move to another country and they can't verify their payment method now. Google did change their system and its supposed to require a card issued in the country you are creating the subscription in.
