Posted 18th Aug 2023
Hi everyone, hope you are all well.

I'm doing some decorating and looking for some ideas on where I can get paint at a good price and any particular brands you guys would recommend.

Looking for Gloss in White for doors, skirts & Architraves.

Thanks in advance

I got recommend Leyland acrylic eggshell for doing doors, skirting etc.
As it doesn't yellow like gloss.

I must say I'm very, very impressed with it. After about 5yrs of being on it still looks brilliant white and is washable.

Available at screwfix at £25 for 2.5ltr. It is quite expensive but well worth it in the long run. (edited)

Decorating centre online will mix paints to match known brands and cheaper. Can also harden paints and alter finishes to suit. Highly recommend them. Standard off the shelf paints, I use Brewers. Leyland paints, as someone has said, are good

Virtually every independent painters/decorators stores in my city have long closed.

The choice I have is The Range, B&M and the usual DIY stores.

The door frames/skirting I did with Crown white gloss, anti yellowing paint. Excellent. Will use again when I need to redo, if still available. [Looks like some form of acrylic paints have replaced those]

You can get away with cheaper emulsion paint, but I'd go with good quality gloss every time (edited)

Yeah I'm in 2minds if I should visit Wickes/B&Q or shops such as B&M & The Range.

I was looking at good quality gloss paint. Did you use normal paint or trade paint?

Where you based ? Lots of towns / small shopping centres have discount / poundsaver style DIY stores that sell everything including paint most of which are just damaged tin and a fraction of the price they sell in Screwfix / B&Q etc. (edited)

    I usually use toolstation.
They sell Dulux, crown, leyland and bedec paints, including gloss.
They will also have other things like
Floor coverings and carpet protectors, masking tape, paint brushes, white spirit, sandpaper, mini roller and tray, wood filler etc etc.
