Royal Mail "attempted delivery" lie

Posted 3rd Nov 2023
Hi all,

Just a quick one. I'm expecting a delivery via Royal Mail following a purchase on Amazon.

I've just had a notification saying that they "attempted delivery - no answer". Now this is a blatant lie as we have a Ring doorbell and nobody has been.

Is there anything I can do, potentially claim compensation? Normally I wouldn't mind if it was delayed but why don't they just say so?

Thanks

I've some sweets left over from Halloween if you'd like them as compensation

Are you sure it is coming with Royal Mail? I've not had problems with Amazon and deliveries until the last week or so. Tracking showed the driver 5 stops away, he pulled into the road I waited by the front door and he drove straight past, delivered to two houses, turned round and I thought he was going to stop as it was a box of wine, but no drove off. That was marked as attempted delivery! It was delivered the next day. Another item was due to be delivered, but then took two days with just a 'delay' explanation.

I had an NVMe drive delivered the other day.. Dispatches from Amazon , Sold by Amazon. It had a Royal Mail tracking number on it though. No normal tracking online from Amazon. It was delivered probably by RM.. Came in Amazon packaging though.

Just contact Amazon and complain.. they seem to hand out gift cards for any minor inconvenience the customer experiences.

this has happened to me but it was amazon delivering, and other couriers delivering. it happens when the driver doesn't want to do the delivery because the delivery is heavy or the parcel is a big parcel, so they want the next schmuck to pick up the parcel, and they put it into their system that delivery had been attempted but there is no one at home.

often this will get them by as no one bothers to complain and people will just think they didn't hear the bell and they don't mind redirecting the delivery to another day. it is certainly annoying when you make a special effort to stay in and wait for them and then they don't deliver as scheduled, and it becomes worse if you had to take a day off work to wait for them.

RM delivered during heavy rainfall - big puddle in the drive way, package wet due to the heavy rain. Next day, no rain, puddle smaller - yet a note put through the door to report failure to deliver due to flooding? Go figure...

I do a postal survey for RM and I have had so many queries about the delivery date as it is 1 or 2 days after it was last tracked, which means it had been sitting in the post man's home during that time or somewhere that RM is unaware of

I've had it a few times recently, raised with Amazon (just wanted the item not any compensation). RM ended up delivering the next day

You'll probably get it tomorrow, don't stress about it. (edited)

If RM just said that it's delayed then fine. But the fact that they said they attempted delivery which they haven't has p1ssed me off

An attempted delivery doesn't necessarily mean they made it to your front door. The attempt may have failed earlier in the process.

how do you know they didn't attempt to delivery it but ran into an issue that prevented them from delivering, such as van breaking down, running out of time etc? attempted delivery doesn't necesarily mean they've turned up at your doorstep. there have been posts about this before where people seem to think attempted delivery means they were on the doorstep or whatever, but it covers a huge range of scenarios. if it's on the van out for delivery, that's them attempting to deliver it. from there if the van breaks down or they run out of time for whatever reason such as due to traffic, weather, etc and they don't make the final delivery, it's still an attempt to deliver as if they didn't have whatever issue that led to the item not being delivered, then it would have been delivered

Read what I have said. They said attempted delivery *no answer*. (edited)
