Electrical regulation with cracked/broken back box?

Posted 20th Nov 2023
Hi All - I am about to request for EICR. Before I do that I have realised two back boxes with below photos have either a cracked back box or a hole in one of them (from previous landlord). Should I replace both of them or any one of them are fine or both are fine?

Many thanks in advance

For the sake of a couple of quid, if you're competent enough, replace.

Going by the book it would be considered a C2 which is classed as "Potentially Dangerous" and would result in a fail.
Some may argue it's a C3 as it's only "mechanical damage", however if you can insert something into a live box it's a C2 "Potentially Dangerous" issue.

Thank you so much. That is very helpful. I will replace them before booking in for EICR.

depends on how pedantic the electrician is. the cracked back box may pass but the one with the hole in it probably won't pass. if you know how to do it, then replace them both. the back boxes are very cheap to buy.

if you don't know how to do it, you can pay the electrician who is doing the EICR report to do it when he comes.

The cracked back box won't pass any inspection regardless of the type of inspection.

Even if they would pass I'd change them as it's a 5 minute job and no more than a few quid
