From the Amazon listing for this item. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bodum-Chambord-Cast-Glass-Diameter/dp/B017E3ZIRK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522333230&sr=8-1&keywords=Bodum+wok Q: Is the internal part unglazed? I do not want a finish on the inside. A: The inside is unglazed. But the manual says not use hard utensils as it is some special mix of iron. I coated the inside of mine with oil and baked it for 1 hour in the oven to season it. It got a proper coating and i cant see the original surface any more. A: No, not glazed, and I find it heats very evenly, very good really

kyeung

Does this have some sort of coating on the cooking surface of the wok?

thetarget

Do the Chinese supermarket woks work with induction hobs? Wondering if they would be too thin to register properly with the hob. Maybe this Bodum Wok is better suited to being a good casserole pot?

Rubbish. lasted a few meals then binned it

Aw, you spoilt it by telling. I tried to make my mysterious Chinese comment continue being mysterious. I was waiting for a "Please tell me how not to get it to stick". Imagine all the burnt stuck horrible pancakes, stir fries, wok flying through kitchen window, etc...

Mysticaltopaz24

They do stick first time you use,if you haven't seasoned it!!! You tube is helpful.people don't realise this ,nothing wrong with the wok itself (skeptical)

Blazwura

Was £2.50 in North Shields Asda, I got the last one. And it stuck the first time I used it.

davening

Have you seen the Chinese fry using the same carbon steel woks and they dont stick?

Nobody has got any stock in the northwest but i managed to get lucky and get the last 2 from my local store. It is now a discontinued item.

trevor_cook

£1.50 each for the 5spice seasoning and star anise, if you say £1 each for 5the bowl then the WOK+CHOPTICKS ends up FREE. So its a HOT deal vote from me . Now ive just got to find one .

jonas106

This. Yeah it's more effort and a little harder to clean, but it's worth it. Non stick works are only better to clean at first. Then coating also ends up coming off at some point. A carbon steel you can just re-season.

urbantreemonkey

Get a carbon steel wok , season / cure it, look after it and it will last forever . I have had mine 13 years so far. Non stick pans just lose there non stick coating and are then thrown away .

Bought two of these at 9.99 (embarrassed) - I was very happy with price because even at 8.99 it was out of stock in my area (y)

Thanx for the heads up (y)

peympeym

Should never buy nonstick coated wok. Wok cooking is about maximum heat quick cooking. Coated material do not stand heat. Best buy mid gage steel and work on seasoning it by oiling, high heating, cooling and repeat. Never ever wash it with detergent. Only wash with hot water and spong and next time heat it so any residual burns off

Zuulan

Those bowls have such sad faces.

This is so true. My local paper is full of stories of people becoming overcome by toxic fumes whilst making a bit of stir fry. It's right up there as one of the nations biggest killers.

you_gotta_be_kidding

Good memory @Gom8z I wouldn't touch this or any wok with a non stick coating. Buy a cheap London wok which is what you will find in Chinese restaurants, you can buy them for about £7 in Chinese supermarkets or for about a tenner on Amazon and will last you 20 years... Watch videos on YouTube on how to season them.

edinburgher

Utter rubbish. Bought as part of housewarming gift for son and, like others, thecoating came off after a couple of uses and only wooden utensils used. Took it back to store and got money back.

deddog

I was given one to replace a plain steel wok that I had been using for over twenty years I thought that it would be be an upgrade due to the non-stick coating, it wasn't! The coating started to come away after two or three uses so it went in the bin. I have since got a stainless steel wok which looks nice, was very cheap at the time and is as good as my original wok. Both the plain steel and the stainless steel woks are easier to clean than the non-stick rubbish. If you have a fiver to waste buy some cheap wine instead of this.

schnorbitz

Thank you.

Wasn't happy with our Salter Megastone frying pan, began to stick after just a few weeks light use. I got that from Sainsburys in a sale. Have since bought a frying pan with a lid , similar to the Wok above, from Aldi for £12.99 . This seems much better quality and if it's any thing like my previous one from Aldi will last a good few years without sticking.

Saw this instore to. Quality wise , for what Id look for in a wok it didn't seem too good. Thin metal, reminded me more of aluminium.

kalico

Price is good, but my Chinese girlfriend says to do this: Find your nearest Chinese supermarket, buy a 'proper' steel wok from there. Take it you your local Chinese takeaway and give them it to 'prove'. Leave it a week or so and buy lots of takeaways from them meanwhile. You will then have a wok that nothing, ever, can stick to. Teflon doesn't come close, apparently. What I can tell you is that all the "never wash your wok, just wipe it" stuff is bull. Of course you should wash it. The secret is in making sure it is properly dry (wash then put back on the hob) and then wipe it over with a bit of kitchen towel and oil (no, not Castrol). And never use the 'wrong' oil if you are going to cook Chinese style. No Olive oil etc. Google for the website that lists cooking oils to use and their smoking points. You may be surprised. If in doubt, Rice Bran oil is your friend. Hope that helps you all.
