Public liability insurance?

Posted 15th Aug 2023
My local gym is offering free membership for 12 months, but require proof of public liability insurance.

Wife, 2 children and myself - I can see insurance for businesses, but where can I get insurance for personal?

You/they are incorrect unless you want to sign up to a plan as a trader or business.

I suspect you're covered via your employer for insurance but as your family are not employees then i guess they need the insurance as not covered by your employer.

This would kind of make sense and it would be public liability in case they somehow injured someone else / equipment etc....... I think

Public Liability in your link is for the businesses & hosts of the gym.

    Not the members.

Are you sure it is not "PERSONAL liability insurance" they are asking for?

A gym requiring public liability insurance is... worrying. It suggests they're not insured which means they probably haven't had health and safety inspections.

Or it could just be scammers trying to trick you into giving enough personal information for identity theft.

It's my works gym, it's a legit offer, but not sure i/they understand what type of insurance they are requiring.
