Anyone know how the AliExpress recommendations algorithm works?

Posted 22nd Jul 2023
I buy something there 2-3 times a year. Recently, bought 3 cheap "smart" watches for a total of £2 (no idea how it was calculated but I am not complaining!) as trade in devices in anticipation of a Samsung Galaxy 6 offer. Today, I get an email from AliExpress with suggestions on what can be paired with my purchase. Screenshot is below, now trying to understand how the recommendations work.

I don't have any search history there since I don't go looking for anything. I usually go only through deal links posted here, buy the item and get out. And that purchase history is all cables and earphones. (edited)

AliExpress recommendations are bizarre.. I've only used it to purchase a couple of watch straps and handheld games consoles, but I get stuff like this on my feed.. I don't even own pets lol

It's certainly selling a particular lifestyle to a 15yo wannabe rude boy.

I get similar on mine. It's click bait.

Those lip things come up for me when I use the mobile app and at the time I did wonder why?
