Care to explain a bit more please........
I ask that since my desktop pc is connected to my crt tv via s-video (out) to scart (in) and i can use it as a pc desktop, or to watch streaming tv, films etc or have i got the wrong end of the stick as usual

Get an old Xbox and load XBMC onto it or even use a 360 if you only want to play AVIs

Looking for something a little more compact.

A good idea tho, but just a little to big.

Yeah you can, you'd need to buy an Xbox to USB cable though, that or make your own.

A lot of dvd players now have this feature.

Yeah you can get cheap DVD players that will play AVI files from disc or a USB stick/HDD.

I think Aldi does one for not very much at all.
