They did and they called it the EVO, it was still terrible - I think ASUS deserves more s*** for releasing a card with ‘military certification’ but not bothering to put any memory cooling and for putting what looks like a large cooler but it’s actually all plastic and fake. MSI at least connected the memory to the heatsink and the poorer performance is due to the compact size, whereas the ASUS is just flat out bad due to inept design.
ASUS did revise the card eventually, like XFX, where as MSI didn't even bother.
The award for the worst hands down goes to the ASUS TUF X3, it doesn't have any cooling on the GDDR6 at all, so it basically throttles if you look at it slightly funny. The MSI at least has a half-hearted, thrifty attempt at thermal pads - it's still pretty bad and I wish I hadn't bothered, but needs must...
