Cold, bit of a weird bundle and not really value for money.

plewis00

It’s really weird! I reckon it’s just old stock they want to get shot of hoping they can coax people with a ‘value bundle’! The Ryzen 7 is great but overshadowed by the 3000-series now. The RX 590 no-one ever really wanted and probably still doesn’t. And Xbox Game Pass just seems a bit ‘meh’ to me.

BabaGanoush

better of picking up a 3600 and 580 card separately

SlawomirSz

Cold...u can buy it cheaper separately...

ST3123

bit of a weird bundle IMHO. Not really sure who it is for (confused) if it is for ppl with an existing AM4 set up (as the lack of board and RAM positions it) then surely such folks would be better skipping the 2000 series and going straight for the 3000 for a bigger jump over first gen Ryzens (not that such systems really need upgrading even now). If it is for first time builders then the lack of board and memory seems a daft oversight especially considering how cheaply they can be got nowadays. Perhaps not a terrible deal, but with Ryzen 3000 series out I think we will see far better as old stock gets cleared....

Nice looking card for 1440p gaming and at under £200 seems good value.
zeb.mattey

Banging, there's always something on a first build but now you know you can do it, always a sweet option to have over buying the prebuilds. Pleasure, enjoy it!

shtivshtiv

Yup, first pc officially built. Lots of drama with very minor stuff compromising the whole system because I'm a total amateur (my computer kept freezing on boot. Was devastated until I figured out the PCI-e wireless adapter of all things was crashing it). But it's done and running great. Wouldn't have even contemplated it without your input. Really appreciate it dude

zeb.mattey

Cool you finished the build!? To be honest the 590 may have been a good choice for your first crack as there's a lot of tinkering to get a Vega 56 working nicely. Could be worth copping in the future maybe? Or better still, wait for the inevitable price war between 5700/RTX 2060 super :) Yeah this is worse than average for a 590 tbh. I think the HUKD folks like the yellow color.

Badongkadong

It's got a nice colour and looks kind of ok until you dive into the technical specs or look into the benchmarks.

shtivshtiv

@zeb.mattey and I'm starting to wish I bit on the Vega you recommended to be honest. I was so nervous about the noise but my 590+ is absolutely silent and doesn't bother me in the slightest, I think I could have tolerated a louder card. But c'est la vie, you live and you learn. I agree with other posters in this thread though; no idea how this deal is so hot. This is a bang average price for this card is it not?

It's a good model if you are set on AMD. I'd definitely get the Vega 56 over the 590. I think the 590 is a very poor choice in the product stack right now. If you're worried about the card lasting, the new features of the NVIDIA 20xx and 1660 should all last well. The AMD 5700 also should be relevant longer. I'd actually urge caution with the pre AMD 5xxx cards as the GCN architecture is officially over. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_RDNA_Architecture Since GCN is now 'retired' there is real chance driver support for those cards will degrade similar to what we saw when GCN emerged.

Battenberg

Does anyone have any thoughts on this vs the Vega 56 Sapphire Pulse at £260 from OCUK? Budget is a big consideration for me (although I'd rather pay a bit more for a card that will be relevant for longer) as is getting the card asap as my current card seems to be dead. In terms of £:performance they seem really similar or am I missing something there? What about power draw/ noise? Anything in it between them there?

SimWasTaken

Cheapest 580 I actually bought was 130 new from Amazon about 1 month back. Haven't seen anything near that for a while. Lowest I've seen is around the 155 mark.

You're resorting to an ad hominem, personal attack. Why? Perhaps you are faced with no other option at this stage as your argument has been systematically dismantled. GPUs must be taken on a case by case basis how they age. Only ridiculous fanboy statements claim that AMD cards always age better. That is clearly a false statement by someone looking to mislead. However seeing as though it simply isn't possible to determine for absolute certainty whether an RX590 will be significantly better in two years post next gen consoles why base your purchase decision and the next several years of your PC gaming on that faint hope? All we know if the 1660 is a better card today, and a total reversal is unlikely. Even if we assume very best case scenario for the 590, you are looking at two GPUs that are not high end cards today, and neither will probably hold up very well when utilised for next generation console games. Sure, you can be a fanboy and not acknowledge the 1660 is a better card and base your entire argument on complete unknown and hopeful assumptions, or you can just buy a better card now and for the foreseeable future. Your choice.

dijital

What an absolute loser lol.

vulcanproject

Civility is a poor substitute for intellectual honesty, which you lack. Here's your AMD's aging better: 980Ti beating up the Fury X even more so than it did when they were new. So much for that 'always ages better' porky you are parading to reinforce this flimsy idea that in the distant future the RX590 MIGHT be a bit better. When it's by then irrelevant. Hooray!

dijital

My god, I tried to be civil, you're an !diot. AMD cards age MUCH better, its a fact. . I am no longer interested in your opinion, it means nothing to me, you would proove yourself a true mess of person if you replied.

vulcanproject

Ok, but I don't have an opinion as such. I have facts that the 1660 is a better card now and for the near future. You just have a vague assertion (read: hope) that in the distant future after new consoles have arrived (18 months) RX 590 might claw a bit back. Ha! Look at my new 2021 games that run at 24FPS instead of your GTX1660 only doing 20FPS. You might have had the better card for two full years, but I won in the end! Now let's buy new cards because these clearly suck today. I know what I would base my purchases on.

yubious

should be self explanatory, but auto correct changed my point a little. The 590 is a "suped-up" 580, so is only a small upgrade. My question is, will you miss out on the free games as you are purchasing through eBay? and added to that you can get a 580 with the free games and a 240gb ssd (25 quid value?), for only 10 quid less. And so this is potentially not a very good deal in comparison, hence the cold votes.

imak

Not sure why this is cold, great price for this card

Tacavas

so the 590 is basically just a super up 580? Will you get the free games? Also a 580 deal for 10 quid less was posted yesterday which included a free 240gb ssd

Dr Lisa said thy got 50% more performance per watt, which is not the same as halving the watts. Its like a third reduction. (which is about what we would expect..its going to be nearer nvidia but without Vram compression they wont catch it (not a fan of that myself, Tom's hardware used to do a blind test and trump how 75% picked the nvidia system, but one day they just stopped talking about it.) We know how much a.m.d. cards are over volted, its because they are actually 'fail' chips and they dont get sorted any further (some wont undervolt much at all so I have read but its rare-so thats why generally they are set up a bit rich.

tuan_desomer-chu

good quality 550w psu would be absolutely fine. my entire pc with undervolted vega 56 ( ryzen 5 2600, 2 x 8gb ram, 2 x ssd, 2 x hdd, 5 fans) takes 350w max from the socket whilst benchmarking and 180w-250w typically whilst gaming. Add 70-80w if you don't do the undervolt.

That particular Vega has a blower cooler, but it's still a far more capable card than anything Polaris based. With a decent undervolt and memory overlcock, I think you'd get pretty decent performance out of that 56, but I can't guarantee whether that cooler can be made to stay reasonably quiet.

NotSoRandomUserame

This is a good price, I was thinking about getting a Vega 56 but with this now being £209.99, is it worth the extra £25? I'm not really fused about the games included. Link to the Vega 56: https://www.ebuyer.com/821669-msi-radeon-rx-vega-56-air-boost-8gb-oc-graphics-card-rx-vega-56-air-boost-8g-oc Or is there a better option for around the £250 mark? The main purpose would be for 1080p gaming (it would be nice if it supported higher resolutions for when I eventually upgrade my monitor).

MikeyHenry

Tempted to hold out for the Vega! 😜 Thanks for the post op!

Good price for this card, difficult to justify it when a Vega 56 is only £40 more on Amazon though. If on a tight budget a PowerColor Red Dragon RX 580 ( I believe on offer at Ebuyer)would be better value for money at around £170. Still a great price for this card if you absolutely have to get a 590.

True, this is a good price, but the card itself is a bit of a strange beast. Not really enough of a performance boost over a 580 to justify the premium price, plus it’s very power hungry. 570 is the best value/ performance currently and a perfectly capable card. If they shaved £20-£40 off the price of the 1660 I believe that would be hard to beat.

plewis00

Agreed. The price is more realistic now but I think I’d still take a 570/580 for the value option or Vega 56 if I had a bit more to spend and was going AMD. Especially with the nVidia options GTX 1660 at £199 and 1070 at £229.

Letstu

More like it. Great price for one of the better 590’s. I’m waiting for navi as expecting similar or + 10% - 15% performance to this. But for 1080p gaming this is a great price! Kind of brings it where it should be price wise.

on the flip side you will probably have latency and not the best picture quality even with decent fibre internet (though for some games it might work ok with latency). a year stadia subscription costing less than a gpu that you actually own and dont have the latency with isnt anything special lol.

pcdealhunter

do you mean 1660 non ti as thats similar price to this? performance wise the 1660 is about 8% better on average but youdont get the 3 free games which is the deciding factor to whether you should get the 590, if any of the free games interest you or you will try and sell them then you should get the 590 if you dont want the free games and cant be bothered to sell them then you should get the 1660. the 590 might be more futureproof and perform better but thats most speculation (though the 8gb vram on the 590 will probably mean less stutter and better frame time in some games even now) the extra vram and compute will probably equalise the performance in two years ish as more games will use dx12

The 1660 is, but it's still significantly better than the 590. And, there is a room for a whopping 15% OC gain. https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GeForce_GTX_1660_Gaming_X/33.htm And yes, this is one of the better cards, but they are all pretty close and most are hitting the 15% OC mark. TPU has a tone of reviews up for browsing.

vulcanproject

GTX1660 wins. At stock it's at least as fast as an RX590 model with a good cooler and clocks that have been pushed. Such an RX590 model has virtually NO core overclocking ability, let's be realistic here. They are all on their upper limit and memory speed increases give limited gains. Whereas even the cheap £200 GTX1660 models gain a fair bit on the core and significantly on their memory, because the core is bandwidth constrained. That's why a GTX1660 with a good memory OC is capable of matching and even beating a stock 1660Ti. An RX590 simply cannot do that, if you are factoring in overclocking. Added in the cooler temperatures, quieter coolers, much lower power consumption it's a slam dunk better GPU than this for less money. Definite win

ChronicCat

Id Pay the like £30 - £40 extra an go to a vega 56 over this

anony_mous

Granted there's not a lot of overclocking potential with the 590, but the GTX1660 is comparable to the 580 in some workloads and that is overclockable. At the same price point these are really muddy waters and I don't think people should be giving a definite "win" to either side lol. If anyone is buying it under the "newer" pretense, then I'd put the 590 in the same bracket as 580 due to the underlying tech being pretty much the same, and go for the new GTX/RTX series.

Where do you get 50% more power from? Techpowerup has it at about 20% consistently under different workloads for average 590, and actually the Asrock one does better than average 590 in power consumption for everything except futuremark benchmark Techpowerup link

Try the MSI afterburner. The UI kinda sucks. You'll find the best improvement will be ramping up the memory clocks but that just makes it unstable so you want to just play around with that.

darrel.butcher

I've been trying to do this with my rx580 but I can't seem to find online much help regarding it. Any advice ?

anony_mous

You could alternatively look into the RTX 2060 or the rumoured upcoming GTX 1660 TI. Both are comparable but I personally feel like the 2060 is a bit overpriced for what it is. Meanwhile, I'm not sold on this 590. I'd probably stay far from it until the price drops to 1060 (6GB of course). It's literally just an overclocked 580... which is pretty much an overclocked 570... Sorry, but no support down this 590 avenue. Edit: just browsed HUKD and came across the 1070 https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/zotac-geforce-gtx-1070-mini-8gb-graphics-card-26998-incl-delivery-at-ebuyercom-3180895. Unless you really want these games, I don't see any point in this gpu (590) at all.
