It was not my intention to boast and I'm glad you're satisfied, I however was not. The RX 580 performs much better on paper than in real life. I use my GPU for simulation work, AI modelling, 3D design, rendering, and gaming, amongst other things. In all these areas, the RX 580 performed much worse than my previous GTX 980. I've no brand preference, and I love a bargain as much, if not more than the next person, but this is not a bargain. The reviews on Amazon will give you some indication of that. In my opinion, cheap hardware is a false economy.

booja

Buy cheap buy twice doesn't really make sense in this market. It makes sense to buy at a certain price point and buy twice over a couple of years to ensure performance increases with advances. Either way you were complaining about a £150 gpu and boasting about buying a £400 gpu instead. It seems you would have been happy with a rx580 but spent 2.5 times more on something to do the same job. Not much of a bargain to me. - someone who is very satisfied with their rx 580.

foo25

My point being - buy cheap, buy twice. The RX 580 should've been on par with my GTX 980. As for the Punto, I owned one of those too once, and what a POS that was! So instead, I saved my pennies and now daily drive a 4 year old 450 HP competition spec Subaru (y)

booja

Similar to how I bought a Fiat Punto that had issues with it's wiring, transmission etc. returned and replaced with a Ferrari 812 . Far superior...

Yes , sorry forgot to mention I also under volted. No issues with the card since I made these changes fingers crossed.

Yeah, the way he was wording things, even if he wasn't straight wrong, was just dishonest.

ando

I wanted to call him out when I commented, but he seems clueless which is clearly obvious, couldn't be bothered replying, was more concerned about the bad "advice" he's giving people

Nate1492

Someone asked you how does this compare to the 980ti and you said 'It was a 25% increase'. Then you edited your comment to be correct, you also said the 590 can 'do 4k'. I would not recommend this card for 4k games to anyone, and suggesting that '4k monitor output' is what you meant is silly, because even a very low end card can do that.

Rhythmeister

I'm enjoying a 1070Ti too but it's not the night and day upgrade from a 1060 6GB I thought it was going to be even that was a great card for the money, still laughs at everything maxed out at 1080p mind 8)

Can anyone recommend me a desktop pc/suitable website where I could find what I am looking for? I am not clued up on all of the parts like some of you, but after a fast pc (ideally AMD Ryzen processor), at least 8gb ram (possibly 16gb) - not sure on other stuff but main useage will be office, multiple internet tabs, multiple docs/spreadsheets, left on virtually 24/7, hooked up to 2/3 monitors. Ideally looking to spend about £500, up to £600 possibly. Whilst I don't plan to use for gaming wanting excellent speeds/hopefully last a few years. Thanks for any assistance. 🍻

I almost ordered that same bundle and went with CCL for a similar bundle but just 3600 instead of 3600x for a little bit less! Sounds like I made the right call (shock)

zochus15

Well as for the card I don't know but a lot of people are slaying AWD-IT therefore I'd throw my opinion on them. Myself however I can't tell a bad word about them. Two weeks ago I've ordered Asus B450 micro ATX motherboard from them and XPG Spectrix D60G ram. They were two separate orders and both have arrived safely packaged and on time despite there being a bank Holiday weekend and ram order not going through correctly I've managed to get in touch with them and resolve the issue straight away. Personally I can recommend them and their services. Ah and they were the best on price as well

plewis00

I have to agree here - they look great but I’ve seen so many XFX cards just go wrong for no reason at all, Sapphire and Powercolor have been the best cards I’ve had, taken lots of gaming and OC abuse with not so much as a failed fan.

pablon1970

This company terrible! I orederd a B450 motherboard with Ryzen 3600x chip and 16GB of DDR4 ram the parcel was late and poorly packaged the Ram was missing and i was also was suppose to get Resident evil 3 for free with the motherboard promotion again this was missing, the communication was woeful and when i did get a reply they asked my to send pictures of what was sent, no idea why! when i asked about the free game they said they was still waiting for them to come in and would send it when in stock. This package was ordered on the 20th of April and i have still not recived the game but they still advertising the promotion. I did eventually receive a refund for the missing RAM. DO NOT TRUST THIS SHABBY COMPANY. ps i still want my free game

Em-Pop

Awful company selling an old tech video card made by one of the worst vendors. Avoid! It’s a bad time buy new at the moment but prices will come down. Buy used or be patient.

@sarden84 hello sarden84, stupid questions. How do I load windows 10 on my new desktop. I got the little striker one the one you said. I assume there’s no operation system on it. I didn’t get the wi fi card as I have a wired connection. Never had a new desktop without windows on it. Sorry for stupid q

stmac25

@sarden84 - thanks for all the really useful information on here and other posts; you’re a real asset to HUKD! We’re looking to get our son a gaming pc around the £500-£600 mark and I wondered if you still recommend the one linked to above from AWD IT with 1TB storage and WiFi added or if you had anything else you thought was better in that price range? Don’t think he plays anything too demanding graphic wise but would be good to future proof a bit in case he does (could probably go an extra £50 on budget). Thanks a tonne for any help you can give - I get a bit lost with all the options out there and combos :D (sorry, forgot to say our son loves the RGB look case In the AWD link)

All I want is a PC that will play Half-Life: Alyx, which in turn will allow me to play it on a Quest.

plewis00

Yes. I literally said, '5700 XTs in general', I wasn't looking at what type of card. I know the Red Devils are good cards (probably not as good as NITRO+) but grade B at this price doesn't appeal.

Jacinto_Fernandes

Are you sure you aren't talking about the red dragon? I've seen the red dragon go for that much. I haven't ever had problems with "grade B" and it isn't worse than used cards (which is what I mostly get) so I don't mind going it. Again, I agree its not the best price for a XT as I was looking to get something for £280 or so used, but this being a top end card, I think it's worth the price.

I appreciate the in depth explanation! I’ll try and remember this.

sarden84

first digit is the generation. 1=2017 2=2018 3=2019 2nd dig ref to.. if it belongs to ryzen 3,5,7 range. 2/3=3 4/5/6=5 7/8/9=7 what ryzen 3/5/7 means is 3=4cores 5=6cores 7=8cores as u seen in the ryzen 5 we got 456.... which also can be dif in thread count but keep same core count.... higher better more platform, so go for the highest. then each own has "clock speed" boost speed" "TDP" and so on lol.... then we have at the end: X at the end: processors have slightly higher frequencies (base, turbo and XFR frequencies). From what we've seen so far, they hit the same overclocking ceilings as non-X variants. and then lower TDP aspect n so on lol i could go on with this all day as each X/non X between generations will differ, but golden rule, get non X if the price gap is somewhat for the X version and if not much get the X for better stock, however if in media terms u see "AF" which is a made up product model from a change of product REF code, it is an old cpu generation, redone using something of the next tier up generation stuff therefore a good boost in performance, and usual cost to price per performance is exactly better than compared to the older dog of it self newer generation of its taken elements from at not much less performance. i.e 1600af beats in value a 2600/2600x.

RunninRiot

I really like these builds you've been putting out. Hoping you can find another prebuilt around £600-£700. I don't even know what im meant to be looking at, is ryzen 7 2600 better than ryzen 5 3600 etc. It really confuses me. I go to purchase one and then i get cold feet because I feel like im being conned into buying outdated tech haha. Anyway yeah thanks for posting builds.

sarden84

yeah it is, its cos under the main item, the 1600 they list both product codes, so theirs no statement ur getting it, except from members like me who are saying they only have the AF, ive screen shotted CCL emails as well, and if u look at the 1600 in the A/Qs part they reply back its the 1600AF. so i have to list it a little different.

plewis00

It’s the same architecture = Polaris and refined allowing for faster clocks, they haven’t made any architectural changes or improvements so not ‘completely different’ as you claimed - same as most chips Intel released after Skylake are still basically Skylake, if you called Kaby or Coffee Lake a ‘completely different architecture’, people would laugh. 470 and 570 just have 4 CUs less than 480, 580 and 590. And 8GB cards all have faster clocked memory than the 4GB versions. All exactly what I said you before you came up with your arrogant reply - overclocked and refined, not different architecture at all, it’s still Polaris with a slight die shrink. Everything I said still stands, if he’s coming from an RX 470 don’t buy something in the same generation that’s clocked faster buy something newer - Navi, Vega or Turing. Unless he specifically wants a faster Polaris card.

urban_junk

Funny how you say I'm wrong and right in the same paragraph, and you obviously became offended when there was no attack. Bless. I appreciate you understand they're based on the same on 'paper' architectural map. But the 14nm and 12nm are made by different companies with patents in place; they're not just physically different but if you was 'to read a review once in a while' your understanding of what overclocking would be better as you wouldsee the standard 590 clock is 50% faster, 10% more shaders, and 20% more memory bandwidth than the 470. Not the same architecture as the process is different.

It's a very good card both are not much of a jump.. and yes it is power hungry. YouTube 2600X rx590 vs rx580 See 4 your self. And also compare rx570 vs rx580 (that's what ur call a gap increase.. ) Could u afford the 1600super as that's an elite combo.

After a bit of guidance, I think I’m going to go for this, but swapping the 590 for the 580. (£14 saving and a wifi card included in 580 build) From what I’ve read about the 590 its very power hungry for not much improvement on the 580. What are your thoughts?

Objectively, despite less ram the gtx 1660 is usually a better card for now but looking through the prism of how long Nvidia actively supports their product, I wouldn't be surprised if within a year, the rx was faster (see current performance relationship between gtx 1060 and rx 580 or Vega and gtx 1070). I would still rather buy AMD as giving money to Nvidia is like handing a knuckle duster to a person that is punching you. https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/367qav/mark_my_word_if_we_dont_stop_the_nvidia_gameworks/ That's an old reddit thread but nothing has changed, Nvidia remains the same shady business with millions of blind followers, just like another Apple Inc. ripping their customers off, violating their rights, pretending they care about their customers and technological advances whereas factually, it's only the money that counts.

Thanks Matt, too late now it's ready to ship for delivery tomorrow. I'll just have to see how it is, I added extra fans and upgraded the cooler so hopefully that helps keep the Fatboy cool! Can't believe I paid the £100 for Windows 10, I should have started my research much earlier (annoyed)

I would def change the gpu to something else. The fatboy takes up a lot of space and can run hot (and loud). The size of the cooler is huge (hence the name). You can get better GPU's for similar money. Which I did when I bought mine.

I got Win 10 off Amazon £6.50. Also upgraded the gpu over the phone to a 1660. For some reason they only charged me £9.50. The Fatboy has had some bad reviews.

Bought the other day. Swapped out Gpu for Palit 1660 over the phone. Charged an extra £9.50 for the upgrade. I also added Wifi network card, 1TB hard drive. Runs great (so far).

Bought this card for my son. There are two sets of bios on the card, selected by a dip switch. The sole t mode throttles quite badly and will crash your machine if you don't have stellar case cooling. Loud mode works fi e though. Good performing card.

Discount code is still working for me when i enter it at checkout?

My lad got an 8gb rx580 just before Christmas, new, for about £130. He had a 2gb Gtx 960 before that. Massive massive difference. Every game on high/full at 1080 with no problems whatsoever. It's the best card at that price point

Callum118

Had a look on eBay and there's 4 used, all of which were more expensive than this (confused). I suppose this was a good deal, sadly the discount code doesn't work anymore so back to its original price of £174 :(

Larlen

Not anytime soon, the prices dropped recently cause of new GPU release. Just go used on eBay, plenty of them in amazing state, especially handy if you on a budget.
