Intel or Ryzen Laptops - go to under £800?

Posted 25th Aug 2023
Been out the game of buying a laptop for a long time so I'm struggling to clearly see what's the 'go-to' spec for this price range.

So far from what I can see on Intel's side is to look for a i7-12700H CPU but I'm a little unsure on AMD's side.

I'm looking for a solidly fast laptop on the go that will be capable of some low-med gaming.

The best for price seems to be the Huawei MateBook D 16 at £643:

I'm not too bothered about anything over a 1080p/60hz panel either.

The lack of dGPU is throwing me off though - how performant are the Iris Xe range?

I guess you could say that's what I'm looking for.

I did see this deal but in terms of the spec, seemed expensive for the price when you consider it's a 12th Gen CPU and a 30-series GPU.

I guess it's not bad when you consider it's one of the few with Thunderbolt 4.

    I would shortlist both these:

High quality, all-metal chassis (not gaming style), good general purpose machines with excellent quality displays, all within your budget. If you are after gaming then go for the Legion 5 or IdeaPad Gaming 3 custom-builds imo.

The Ryzen variant seems to be a better option for the CPU but how would the GPU compare to the 3050? (edited)
