Outdoor wireless camera

Posted 27th Jul 2023
I have just bought a hedgehog feed station. Now I’m looking for a camera so that I can see hedgehogs eating. Only have a small budget. It would need to be wireless, night vision, motion sensor, film close up and link to my phone. Can anyone recommend something please that would be easy to set up. Thanks

    The likely cheapest option is:
completely wirefree cam i.e wifi battery-powered cam
£19 FBA for fully-featured cam (in lurid blue) inc 32GB microSD card, but be quick because v low stock
    amazon.co.uk/HOW…PX/
and assumes there is decent wifi at feeder location.
Simple setup and inclusive freebie ongoing rolling 7-days Amazon AWS cloud-stored footage-clip recordings.
Battery cam so recording trigger is PIR heat-sensor based (rather than image-comparison movement-based trigger) so rain and/or swaying branches will not create false triggers.

Or the curveball suggestion to cover most if not all scenarios:
    • under £19 FBA hi-resolution outdoor wired-power cam beyond 1080p = 2k / 4MP
plus any requirement for associated cabling to include, examples:
    • £4.99 10m flat ethernet cable to fit through window opening to supply combination of power and / or data connection to router amazon.co.uk/ken…OM/
    • £4.99 pair of power/data adapters amazon.co.uk/HSe…MF/
    • some basic methodology to provide weatherproofing to any external low voltage non-lethal connection (start from a plassy bag + elassy bands to anything more colourfully ingenious).
    Decent features via decent app.
Footage / recordings triggered by image-comparison movement.

For best suggestions, the community would benefit from knowing
    • if feeding station is covered / open (can cam fit inside or not)
    • how far from router & how many walls in-between
    • if suitable mains is nearby outside, where "suitable" = can accommodate a power brick whilst retaining weatherproofing
    • if a window opening is nearby.

Brilliant info thank you. The feeding station is wooden with a non watertight lid. It’s not near an outdoor socket but should get Wi-Fi because my phone does when I stand next to it. A small cam will fit inside. Measures 37x30 x 20cm high

You can try the app AlfredCamera in an old phone.

Not many mobiles have nightvision or have sensitive / low light performance.
