The hotel was ok, staff a bit dippy tbh... I thought it was a bit cheapskate that they wanted £2 to upgrade the breakfast to get a bit of bacon! might stay again but nothing that special

1. You are wrong a lot do. Instead of getting a good (hotuk)deal on 23's upgrade your bike so that you can buy 25's ! 2. The whole point of this post - a hot uk deal - well done OP 3. I didn't as - I already pointed out to you. Equally, in your misunderstanding, it could turn out to be a cost saving - if durability is equivalent in the chosen hypothetical tyre. 4. But you are missing the point - this is after all Hotukdeals. 5. LMGTFY

basergorkobal

1. Not many bikes will fall in this category. And if they do then it's a good reason to upgrade. 2. No comment. 3. It sounded like you suggested whatever is cheapest. Which may be false economy because of the difference in durability. 4. The current fashion is not to follow fashion but use what's most effective, comfortable and safe. 5. And which tyre is that? Is it also the most comfortable and safest in the corners?

n3m3s1s

1. Their bike fame may not accept 25s. 2. If the 23s are cheaper ... some people have deep pockets and short arms. 3. No I am not suggesting this tyre for turbo training instead of a dedicated turbo tyre. 4. The current fashion and bandwagon is to ditch 23s in favour of 25s or 28s (some could do better ditching a few lbs / kgs of fat - me included) 5.Funnily enough however, the new fastest road tyre is in fact a 23 - with much lower rolling road resistance to all the proud owners of their new 25s and 28s (popcorn)

basergorkobal

I agree it's a good post. If you want 23mm tyres, it's a very good deal. Just can't quite understand why anyone would choose 23 over 25. Unless they just don't want to change their habits. But if you're suggesting this tyre is a good cheap choice for turbo use. Well, it's not. A - it's not that cheap compared to a dedicated turbo tyre and B - it's a soft compound tyre so will last a fraction of the time a dedicated turbo tyre will last.

trickytree1984

Completely agreed about the turbo. I understand what you are saying about training, but to be honest there is so little in it in terms of resistance. The comfort is night and day however. On the money saving front, it's fine to buy something because it's cheap, but not if it's not the right product.

Looking for a bit of advice as I don't know much about bikes. I checked my bike and the rim says 29er 622 x 19C 6061, will the 29x2.2 fit my bike okay?

Ordered 2 2.2 29er for front and back, really tempted by the 2.4 for the front but doubt I have the clearance and think it will be over kill once the worst of the winter is over

Mines still going strong too

There's also a great tyre for muddy rear conditions which I use round Mugdock/ West Highland way trails , also good as a fast rear tyre for trail centres just under 600g and can be run tubeless , gd times. 26x2.1

If you're a Costco member it's about a tenner per tyre. Costco will check the speed and load rating before fitting a tyre that you've supplied.

These are excellent tyres for puncture-resistance. This seems like a good price (I paid £55 a couple of years ago for a pair ).
CharleyCroker

Great spot OP, thanks.

YouTalkinToMe

Yup, for city riding they're all right. As long as you're sensible with your cornering then you ought to be fine. But when it comes to descending down -15% hills around corners and braking for hairpins in the wet you want softer rubber which is grippier.

robodan918

for city commuting, the gator hardshells are perfect I used to get lots of punctures on my stock tyres, fewer on gatorskin, and none ever with gator hardshell I've used wet/dry, and I just "drive the conditions" - i.e. going slower and being more careful when it's wet and icy. Never had a problem, but it stands to reason that tougher tyres will be made of harder rubber, which loses grip more easily in the cold and wet

robodan918

that's gatorskin gator hardshell is better in my experience

Brookydave

Some years ago Gatorskin were very slippery tyres and I used 4 seasons, Then I and a few mates noticed 4 seasons started to go granular, pick up road debris and get punctures. So I went back to Gatorskins about 18 months ago - what a difference. Mine - 25 front 28 rear have stacks of grip now - enough to lift the back wheel in the wet when it all goes wrong on the Lakes /Yorkshire hills. Just a balance of opinion!

Nah, 30mls of sealant in each tyre and unless you really really try you'll remain puncture free. The added benefit is you can run much lower pressures too.
