Just to add to the list, I was browsing and this seems to cover three bases you mentioned. 5 star reviews overall as well! amazon.co.uk/dp/B083JP39W4/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_rg60Eb1K89X7M Edit: except for a case, actually

Silverline's "guarantee" policy is basically, if the piece of tat breaks, they send you a replacement piece of tat. At no point will they entertain the idea of refunding you the money.

fwiw, I notice the Makita M4301 is now £29.99 at Amazon UK but on back order. Makita is £28.99 from this ebay seller. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-M4301-240V-450W-65mm-Maktek-MT-Jigsaw/333597052851 The Makita is only 450w, 65mm in wood. Changing blades requires use of supplied allen key. No plastic carry case. Lowest Bosch model is PST 700 E at 500w (65mm in wood) at £43 with keyless blade change, but it does not offer pendulum setting for fast cutting through timber. It does come with a case. PST 800 PEL is 520w with pendulum settings and has been as low as £58 on Amazon. I was waiting for this to come back in stock, but decided to order the Makita as it is almost half the price. Cheapest cordless is Einhell from Wickes. £50 with 3A battery and charger, but no case or saw blade. Makita and I think Bosch come with 3 year warranties for what they are worth. Bosch wood blade set £7.75 from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-10-Piece-Jigsaw-Blade-Wood/dp/B000R5LQBK/

Can these Bosch cut in a straight line (Some cheaper jigsaws can't manage this simple task) ? Are they any good for cutting sink holes in 40mm thick kitchen laminated chipboard worktops? I've got an old B&D 400W jigsaw which does both badly. Looking to replace it with another 'corded' model. For occasional light DIY use. Anyone know whether the 520W PST 800 PEL ( for £59 Amazon - sold out) with pendulum action is worth the extra over the 500W PST 700E/7200E? fwiw, Wickes have 18v cordless Einhell pendulum jigsaw with free 3A battery and charger for £50 (+ delivery). No case. https://www.wickes.co.uk/Einhell-Power-X-Change-TE-JS-18-Li-18V-Cordless-Jigsaw---Bare/p/207900 Update: Makita MA4301 is 450w with pendulum action is on special offer at £29.99 at Amazon (back order). 450w, 65mm in wood, no case, requires allen key to change blade.

Ordered from b and q.... they cancelled my order today with no reason. Going to order this one from amazon now.

I've only bought budget brand jigsaws where they die after 2-3 yrs. Quite like the slow saw mode to get things aligned, the ramp up is nice but as said with other user it occasionally drifts if you push too hard. I've not used higher ranged units but I'm not sure what other improvement I need in a jigsaw.

GunMetal

My brother has one and we used it to cut a kitchen counter, freehand. We had no other means, tools etc. The most important thing, aside from a steady hand, are the blades and the speed you use. Practice first, measure twice, cut once. Buy decent blades at different lengths for different materials. Bosch do a good set.

Jizzmeister

I've got the higher power model and it's been good, only used it on timber and plywood to date though.

Mathew8787

Thank you. Much appreciated

EndemicAlarm

You'll very rarely go wrong with Bosch, regardless of what you buy. That said, in common with some of the Amazon reviews, I found mine drifts and the accuracy isn't good enough. I'd get it again but be quicker to check that.

Did you buy this, if so are you able to give any feedback as thinking of going for it too..?

SORTED.. Went to collect my charger and battery to discover no free battery as per a previous post, so had a refund. Today purchased a strimmer with charger and 1.5amp battery for £59 then got the 3mp battery and better charger for free.. Happy. Have a few Einhell / Ozito products now and find them ideal for my DIY use.

My smallest batteries are 2 Ah and with one of those on the unit I did a 2 hour long job with it, obviously the saw's net runtime was about 10 minutes so not a single charge indicator bar disappeared after. I guess if you continuously eat through metal cutting blades then it won't last long.

AttilaB

I have this jigsaw and have been very happy with it, although I only use it occasionally, weekend warrior style. I got it for about £130 with a big TSTAK case and a set of quality blades last year so I guess this is still an okay price. By the way I recommend this jigsaw, it's very easy to work with, albeit a bit loud. I second comments about the actual benefits of a brushless jigsaw, I tend to buy brushless units for other tools but for a jigsaw I didn't care much because of the usage pattern.

Mine arrived today, seal broken, flat battery. All good here. Its heavier than expected.

The_Moonraker

Mine arrived today. Ditto, as above. And I also have a broken seal and I'm confident it was for including the battery. The battery is flat although that's not unexpected. It seems to be charging fine. Very happy, great deal, thanks OP.

lovenkrands

Think you are right, thanks.

jimm1364

I have not even looked at the leaflet, the serial number on the unit is what I go by, if it was fake then you wouldn't be able to register it. The fact that the box was not sealed in my opinion was to put the battery in. I ve never had a problem with Makita stuff from Amazon and these deals always sell out very quickly. The safeguard with them is if your not happy you can return without quibble. I'm still convinced it's a great deal for a quality product. Just looked at the photo above and checked the leaflet, mines the same and the serial number on the unit is within the range printed, so for me I don't see a problem

lovenkrands

I've sealed it back up, but I think it did. Thanks

You can cut in a curved line with a jigsaw, and with the help of a drill you can cut shaped holes. Less fatiguing than a hand saw for bigger jobs. A good jigsaw is an appropriate tool for laminate. As mentioned earlier it's primary benefit is to make profile cuts, so you can shape the edges around pipes and door frames. You will get a decent finish with the right blade and your edges should all be hidden under skirting or beading anyhow.
