Changing from low profile to thicker tyres

Posted 16th Jul 2023
I’m wanting to change the wheels and tyres on my wife’s 2011 plate fiesta which has low profile tyres because where we live is inundated with speed ramps and potholes and more so because of comfort.
Her current tyres are 195/45 R16 84V so what do I need to look for.l?
I’m completely lost with this.
Thanks

You could but it isn't recommended. If doing so you're better going a rim size down to keep the same diameter as what you have now. Your Speedo would become inaccurate by changing diameters. You could have suspension issues as your car has been configured for those current tyres and also the brake clearance could be an issue if you have larger brakes plus you could get a few other problems with handling etc. I'd speak to a tyre specialist and see what they recommend

The wheels overall should be the same size as I’ll be replacing the wheels and tyres and the current wheels look retrofitted

These are the sizes standard on a 2011 fiesta. Depends on model though as to which will fit over the brakes.

195/45 really isn't that low profile. The 45 refers to a percentage of the width.

Look on ebay for a set of fiesta wheels that match the above spec and stud pattern/offset for your car.

You'll still have to be careful and check, because most modern SUVs still run on low profile tyres.
