Gaming/Music Production Laptop

Posted 17th Aug 2023
Hi all

I’m looking for a laptop that will be good for music production/home DJ’ing and I could play the odd game on, but not Crysis at full settings

I’ve had a Google but the top laptops are mainly MacBooks for £2k+, and I don’t want to pay the earth, maybe £1k tops.

I know I’ll need 16gb RAM for smooth running, and cooling is important for the gaming aspect, but I’m well out of the loop specs and tech wise, so I’d appreciate some knowledgeable help please.

16Gb is a good start, sounds liek anything in the £1k bracket will do the job.

Depending on how 'pro' your music production is, AMD machines typically currently get a lot better latency results than Intel. 12/13th Gen Intel have issues here.

But, as said, this may not apply to your use.

Choose what size screen you want and take a look what's on the market for your budget. Post your shortlist, and it's likely people will comment. (edited)

Based on specs, it seems pretty good. Obviously, you'd need to see in the flesh to get an idea of screen, keyboard, touch pad, and build quality.

What software will you be using for music production? My daughters music work is basically Mac only so we had no choice. Having said that, her Macbook Air with the M1 chip has been really impressive. The 16Gb one can be had for around a grand.

Not sure yet mate, it’s something I want to get into after messing with fruity loops years ago. The best or most popular seems to be Ableton?

Do I need to be looking at a top quality sound card? All my setup is geared towards top sound quality. As in using WAVs with digital interconnects with QED XLR cables etc. (edited)
