Massive loss of flavour to the meat and all I could taste was burned wood.
Perhaps I'm saying there's more of a knack to it that I have yet to perfect. I spent most bbqs this summer, cooking food on the gas bbq then putting it in the smoker for a bit to flavour it

These dropped to £10 further in to winter last year, they're rubbish for smoking meat though

I got this, tried to smoke some chicken fillets for 9 minutes but it seemed they just steamed. No smoke taste, no sign of the chips heating up? How do you work it? I navigated to hot then adjusted to 9.

Don't think you'll be disappointed.

Well I was disappointed. The thing turned up without the smoker box rendering it useless, so it went straight back. It seemed a bit rubbish anyway, very poorly finished and the "improved" instructions were a joke. I used to think Tower were a good brand, but seeing that they now sell re-badged Chinese tat like this, obviously not.

Just in time for the long Summer evenings where.... Ah.

Might possibly be rusty by the time you get to use it.

Hot deal nevertheless if you're in the market for one. Cue loads of moaners going on about the quality, the temperature, the hassle and how better/worse/easier it is to buy an ASDA pizza.
Anyone used this? What is it like?

Get a Uuni or even better a brick built oven. These are woeful, no temperature control at all.
the thin sides of these ovens means you need a lot of fuel to get it to reach and stay at the desired temperature, the stone or clay ones contain the heat a lot better.
Not sure if it has been tried but maybe this oven could be better insulated by using it as a mould for a clay cover.

That's an interesting project. But I reckon only viable in the USA where you can buy a Smokey Joe Premium for $40 which is about £30. The cheapest I can find a Smokey Joe Premium in the UK is over £60, add on the cost of all the other parts and I think you would better off just buying a Callow Smoker for around £100.

Add a pack of wood chips to provide your smoke during cookingBe aware of the temp difference in this machine, and work out what 225F does actually read on the faulty thermometer as that is the temp you will be looking for. Also if you don't have one of those kitchen food temp probes getting one of those will tell you when your meat has reached its internally cooked temp depending what meat you are cooking.Just need a slab of meat and some marinade ingredients and you are good to go.Sunday is forecast to be glorious and I am cooking some Gammon Shanks and pit beans with Baked Potatoes on my ProQ with some homemade coleslaw.

Sounds fantastic. I have most of those things already for use on my Weber kettle. I've actually been grilling for a few years! Last year I got a smokenator but it hard to direct grill burgers etc for the kids and smoke a pork shoulder for the adults! This seems like the perfect cure.

I can't see me beating this price point!

Ps on the thermometer has anyone tried to calibrate? Often they are adjustable. Use boiling water as your fixed point.

Thanks alot it may be the sunshine but I think I will take the plunge.

the part number for the correct the cover is 8259969. I got mine via eBay and it cost around £40 with the current exchange rate and postage. it's not cheap but it's a good quality cover and should last the life of the bbq if looked after
I've had mine a few months now. as others have mentioned about the mods, this is something that can be done with any smoker to improve performance. A tube of vt-153 copper rtv sealant is all you need to ensure a smoke tight seal on all the joints. I have to say I was disappointed with mine as the main lid was not shaped correctly and took a lot of effort to bend it for it to close properly. I got the glass tape to line to openings as the YouTube videos suggest but this just makes the gap worse. I settled for wiping the inside of the lid with veg oil and running a bead of sealant on the body so when I closed the lid it created a perfect seal without sticking the door shut while it cured. I've done a few cooks now and it holds the temperature well when burning wood. I paid £300 and would happily buy another at this price

cheers. but as previously mentioned the difference in build quality on these will be fairly significant. having a quick look at the dunelm mill one you can see that smoke/heat would escape fairly easily/fast through joins on the hood. it is a decent price for a drum BBQ but i don't imagine it holding heat particularly well so would make it a poor option for a smoker

I had a bigger version of this and it wad a great bbq but a waste of time as a smoker
