Hi, I have sold something on Sphock, but need to post the item. My buyer has paid through a 'wallet'. The funds are held by the 'wallet' through Sphock, until the buyer receives my item, and then the money is released.....Has anyone sold using this before? I'm a bit dubious as never used this before - obviously I won't receive the money until the buyer gives it the go ahead?

Unless it’s an obscure item. Just realist and state no postage will be entertained. Even if you have to accept less for a local buyer, it’s more than being ripped off.

All this is pointless unless you are going to do a one take video from packing the item to handing it over to the post office whilst keeping the parcel in shot at all times as it could be switched at any point.
You don’t, wait for a buyer close enough to collect. You will more than likely get scammed, collection and cash is the only way.
Glad to hear you are being cautious but do remember: Paypal is also not totally safe for transactions 'outside' eBay. Paypal payments can also be reversed in certain instances (yes, even 'friends and family') - especially if it is an account they have hacked. Bank transfer is really the safest option for YOU.
If they get 'shirty' just remember you are under no obligation to deal with them at this point. Explain to them politely that you are uncomfortable with the transaction. If they don't like it, then tough. You have all the control.
Incidentally, roughly how much money are we talking about? Not that it matters as £10 to some could be like £1000 to someone else. No-one seriously wishes to get conned, regardless of value eh?

If you haven't posted the item yet, just cancel the sale and relist it locally. That's what Shpock and Gumtree are used for, local sales and cash on collection. (edited)

I posted an item that was a large letter on Shpock so no tracking number and buyer said it never arrived, was very suspicious as they were impatient and something just didn’t sit right with the communication.
I didn’t believe them and asked them open a PayPal case and waited until Royal Mail refunded me before I refunded them.
I didn’t use the shpock payment system though so can’t help with that. But make sure you have a tracking number for anything you do send

Send it by the appropriate courier with proof of delivery.
As above though it's the same as Gumtree,cash on collection personally.
I absolutely pray this isn't the case for you hartlyhare but it's such a well-documented scam these days on the various 'trading' platforms. Does this "wallet" offer you any kind of protection against such instances? If you are seriously considering going ahead (and if the transaction value is worth it) then DO consider insuring your package as then you can claim for loss against the post/courier service. Also. send using a tracked/signed for service at the very least.
Take photo/video of you packing the item, paying attention to the label. Weigh the item too and show the weight. When posting, get "proof" including weight etc. Do all you can to protect and bolster any case you might need to build if it all goes wrong.
Of course, the cost of all this can sometimes outweigh any potential profit made on selling an item which Is why many don't bother and "risk" it. Don't be a victim. So, choices:
A) Take a chance that everything will be ok. Send and cross your fingers! (*** Not recommended ***)
B) Ask them to use a different payment method - i.e. bank transfer to your nominated a/c. If they refuse this, then they are not serious about wanting your item and possibly looking to scam. Do not accept Paypal as this is also too easy for them to reclaim - or use a hacked a/c.
C) Cancel the transaction. They'll get their money back. Then, even if it takes longer, sell only locally and for cash-in-hand.
Just read some of the stories of woe on this very forum to see why you need your wits about you today. Too many people now have found 'courier' scamming to be far too easy and think it's a 'victim-less' crime if the seller manages to claim against the courier. I guess they sleep better at night? Be a lump in their mattress eh?

I think you've said this before and I totally understand but I think anything you can do to strengthen any case is a worthwhile one. I don't think situations such as this would ever get to a case in court where a lawyer would ask for your evidence to be disregarded as "pointless" but hey, who knows?
