Ticket by police

Posted 3rd May 2023
On the 17th of April , I nearly missed my junction and drove over the front of a solid white line , anyways police give chase and pulled me .

Said I would get my letter in three days , as of today I still am yet to get any letter .

My mate said if they haven’t issued it within 14 days then the convection is invalidated ? What are the rules and where do I stand ?

What made me laugh is the road signs and markings where very confusing And the police said the my have been asked to monitor the junction by the highways agency!

I said maybe they should look at either new markings or better lay out if it’s a on going issue

Is there a time limit for prosecutions for traffic offences?
Generally, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have 6 months from the date of the offence in which to issue proceedings, although some further time can elapse before you receive a summons.

For some offences, you have to be given either a warning of a possible prosecution at the time the offence occurred, or you or the registered keeper of the vehicle must receive a notice of intended prosecution within 14 days of the offence.

    7. What if I wasn't warned that I could be prosecuted for a traffic offence?
This is relevant only to certain offences, the main ones being dangerous driving, driving without due care and attention, inconsiderate driving, speeding, failure to comply with traffic directions and signs, and leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position.

For these offences, generally speaking you must either be warned at the time of the offence of the possibility that you will be prosecuted for it, or either you or the registered keeper of the vehicle must be served with a notice of intended prosecution, or with a summons, within 14 days of the offence.

The 14 days rule may not be valid when you're given a verbal notice of intended prosecution (nip). That's only for when your flashed by a camera etc. For better information I'd head to here

Make an account and use the nip wizard. They'll be along to help soon. (edited)

You didn't *nearly* miss your juntion, you *did* miss your junction and then ignored the road markings to take it illegally. No, the 14 day rule doesn't apply as you were pulled at the time.

Wouldn’t be the first time a letter of important goes missing.. it maybe best to call and see if anything has been registered under your number plate.

The 14 days only applies for traffic camera offences ,as you were spoken to at the time that does not apply so the summons can take longer to come through and at the end of the day a solid white line is not confusing regardless of w where it is
