Actimel or Yakult

Which tastes better? I've been told I should be drinking something like these but I vaguely remembering trying a yakult many moons ago and hating the taste of it. I know that anything good for the body is normally bland and not as appealing but I think needs must.

Yakult original tastes way better. I’d drink whole packs within 2 minutes.

1.3 seconds per bottle

I like Actimel. It has live good bacteria which is good for your gut and digestion.

Strawberry, blueberries, figs and prunes.
Try Kefir instead, the real stuff though.
Why not try them both and let your taste buds decide?
Actimel
My partner is very fussy and he drinks Actimel when I buy it on offer... Strawberry flavour only.

I would think if he likes them they must not be too bad.

Because I don't want to waste money. I can only see 6 - 8 packs local to me so would rather hear what others have to say.
I tried actimel strawberry for the first time last week, was pleasantly surprised, its really nice, will be buying again. 16 bottles for £4 at Asda at the moment.
I quite like aldi.co.uk/str…201 - and I've never actually been keen on yogurt - and it's by far the cheapest way to get some L. Casei

But your question was which tastes better. Only you will know the answer.
Don't want to confuse OP with all these suggestions, they might have to waste money trying them all.....

firstly
my question is
who told you that you should be drinking it?

secondly,
there is a limited evidence that bacteria from probiotics even reaches the gut so I would be wary of how many you drink.
for people with IBS it is suggested to do a trial for 6weeks, if no improvement then simply stop.
thing is we dont know why you need to take it in the first place so dont want to make any statements.

That's kind of you to consider that. Living on benefits is tough and this is a way of getting some recommendations without spending too much money trying them all. Actimel seems to be a popular recommendation so I'll try that first. As its GP advice, not available on prescription, I need to be very careful with my weekly budget.

True but a starting point is useful. Now I know to start with actimel as the most popular choice out of the 2. Kefir is another option I hadn't considered. Aldis I will avoid due to reviews.

Ehh GPs. They have all those resources to their disposal and never used them.
I'm not going to ask for specifics since its public forum (you can pm me with few more details if you want) but one of the suggestions would be asking for a dietetic referral as it is food based symptom management. I'm sure Lemonhead will pop round soon to confirm lol

In worst case scenario you may need gastroenterology referral to do some scans and tests

I would like tests but this I felt was a fob off. I'll give the actimel a trial and see what happens.
All a myth that these do anything I heard. Lab test shows acid wipes this out. Never makes it past your guts. Lol.. Marketing xxxxloxx... As for taste we are all different. Just buy the natural bio in big pots and add fruit if you must..

I agree. Its just modern day snake oil. Great marketing though. I just eat a 10p everyday value yoghurt if I ever get acidic stomach symptoms - works fine. I suspect milk is just as effective.

I like both...

Yakult have a lot of sugar.
You should consider no sugar add actimel if you can bear the taste.

I used to use drinking yogurt to replace mike when having cereal...

Actimel with coconut is fantastic for me , I have throat cancer and sometimes affects my stomach and then I have actimel which really helps
All supermarkets do their own version, which is cheaper.

Sainsbury's and Asda's ones are ok according to my partner and, like I said, he is very fussy.
Tesco's ones apparently are not that nice instead.

He drinks them because of cholesterol. If you just need the probiotics normal yoghurt is just as good to be honest.

I need something with flavour as not a fan of plain yogurts. (Yogurts or Yoghurts????!!)
I bought a pack of 4 strawberry actimel. Will see how I get on. If I do it for 6 weeks and there is no difference then I can go back to the GP and say so.

You can buy all sorts of flavours when it comes to yoghurt... You don't have to have it plain! You can spell it both ways.

You can get real Kefir of Facebook group I joined it you just need pay for postage too the person who sends it too u. I think I paid around £1. Then u feed it too milk it's cheaper than buying stuff form the shops. I just couldn't drink the stuff tastes a bit like out of date yoghurt/milk blend. I will ask if my uncle has it I gave it away too him if I have I can send it too you if you want for free. But I think he probably let it die or ate.
Strawberry actimal
Tried the strawberry actimel today and I'm still alive. Much better tasting than I expected so I will continue with it.

I never really considered that it was a yogurt that you drank. A yogurt is more thick set, to me. Out of a tub with a spoon. I couldn't understand why people were saying you could buy all different flavours of yogurts as I knew that but this is a drink. Confusion sorted.

Thanks x
