Guess the daily deal is over
Link brings up a bit fat Yorkshire Pudding
Sounds like 'crack nuts'... I thought these were to stop you from cracking your nut!
Looks like a good helmet for the price but I try to find ones with built in nets on the front to keep bugs out in the warmer months
To be fair - I won't be going out if it's too muddy so visor not needed. Just out and about through woodland trails with the kids! (y)
It would be fine from a head protection perspective. Mtb trail helmets have a longer back (this looks ok) and a visor to keep mud out of your eyes. This has no visor, it depends whether you think that would bother you, it wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me.
Trails usually involve a helmet with a peak so when you go flying off, you lodge your head in a tree trunk like a woodpecker
I'd think twice about having a dull or even camo-looking helmet - you want to be seen by road users.
OOS on all colours
Only available in red (mad)
It's unlikely that's MIPS. There's no mention of MIPS in the description and no sign of a yellow MIPS sticker on the helmet (usually on the back/left on Bell helmets). There's no mention of a MIPS version of the tracker on Bell's website. Bell's cheapest MIPS helmet has an RRP of £60. I guess if you order it and it turns up with no mention of MIPS you could return it free as "not as described".
Yeah that’s the one.. Says MIPS in the title but couldn’t see anything else in the description so was unsure! (y)
Despite the OP going to great lengths to pre-acknowledge and anticipate your concerns, no doubt fully aware of the trade off (as we all are) and referencing the exact scenario where someone would buy a cheap helmet - you can’t yourselves can you (lol) . When I was 17, using my 125 to get to work, I would have loved to have an Arai, but my first payslip barely covered food. I could only afford to be legal. When I could upgrade I did.
The difference with these helmets and say an aria for example is that the more expensive helmets use multiple density’s in the foam padding as well as selling different internals. These cheap helmets take advantage of sharp testing by producing them to suit mannequin heads. Everyone has a different head and that’s why trying on helmets is vital. A £800 helmet that isn’t snug won’t save you as well as a good fitting £300 helmet. Spend what you can afford and make sure you try out a few brands until you find one suited to your head
I have no clue about the circumstances of your accident but a test of 1 is not statistically significant. That's why we have proper test with certification. They measure forces during impact and to be honest I have no idea how you would change testing procedures to show that expensive helmets are better. My first helmet was MT and I was happy with it. Had a small crash and as you can see I'm still alive - does that prove anything? I don't think so. Now I'm riding in 6x more expensive Nolan. I love it for amazing intercom and brake light but I feel it is louder than fairly cheap MT. My point is that I understand better materials and craftsmanship but they should be visible in independent tests! If not then I will stay away since I don't need to show everyone around I can afford £900 lid.
Cold, doesn't cost 5 grand
It's a patented safety feature
Is MIPS a quality standard?
Gone again :/ hope more comes in stock
I didn’t hesitate...nice one! (y)
Back in stock.
Worth noting: https://www.trekbikes.com/gb/en_GB/bontrager/guarantee/
Or the cheaper alternative for me was to buy a £300 POS to ride anywhere I'm going to have to lock it up. It's actually quite liberating not being constantly worried if it'll be there when you get back. In all honestly, no matter what lock you use, if someone wants it bad enough, they'll take it. Or they'll sabotage it. Seen plenty of mates with superglue in their lock or their Carbon frame hacksawed because their lock defeated a thief.
I got a halfords U lock which had the highest security rating in store , cost £60 . Thats around 10% of what the bike is worth . It comes with a 12mm coil so you can secure front wheel to . But its stupidly heavy and you couldn't secure it to bike . So if I know I am going to need it I will throw it in my back pack . But a bike is only as sure to what you are going to secure it against . These theives carry cordless angle grinders with them now !
Decent price, but is there any evidence that MIPS works?
Spend a minimum of 10% of your bikes value on a lock. I use magnum locks, they are very tough
Thanks for this - I almost ordered a bike from them today.
I tried to order some wheels from them that were in stock they took my money and took them 3 weeks to tell me it wasn't in stock even though the status said it had already been picked and was waiting to be collected for delivery. Not the best experience but I understand it's a strange time at the moment
Was going to order to realise I was never going to get It. Worst company in British history.
Ordered this last time and they cancelled my order
£7 + £4.99 postage does not equal £13.99
Just seen already posted! :)
Should post as another deal ;)
Thank you very kind (y)
If that helps plaster the wounds on your bruised ego tonight so be it. But leave it at that (y)
Correcting morons you mean.
Also check out their deals section - they have lights for 50p, handlebar grips for £2, handlebar tape for £2, inner tubes for £1, tops for £3 etc.
The MTB enduro usually have slightly more protection for the side and rear as falls are more likely to encounter rocks/rough ground, they also have the visor where road helmets normally don't due to the riding position being lower and possibly hindering views ahead. The more expensive helmets normally have more vents but provide the same level of protection.
Apologies for the naïve/daft question but how does this differ from the road version apart from the looks? Does one offer better or different protection than the other?
You will look like Mushroom from Mario cart (or a giant bell end) wearing this. Trust me. Looks hideously big.
I bought this and it arrived without an LED....won't be buying from them again.
Get what you pay for. Is your head worth more than a tenna?
Awesome value, can't go wrong with planet x gear
Great as a secondary light to make you more visible on the road. But don’t forget on U.K. roads you must have a light on the bike ‘which isn’t flashing’ to stay legal.
Looks good value (y)
They've doubled the price of their other xc helmets (£10-£20, still cheap!) Matt black has been oos forever. Still waiting
Thanks ordered a green one for my son!
Think this one has a rear light and is also £10 https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HECACROIXSL/carnac-croix-sl-led-road-helmet
Paid £15 for one of these about a year ago more than impressed with the quality and fit, easily on par with my brothers helmet costing £100+ Absolute bargain at this price.
It's removable. (y)
The air might be sleeker and you can add the jaw but good price
Mips is good, that helmet is ugly
A quick google seems that they get good reviews.
these the ones that got terrible reviews or was that an earlier model?
Kask Protone - was £199 now £99 Damn I paid £140 last week :( edit: oh my size is £140 here too
Yes mate, they're ace for that. Really lightweight, great system that grips your head, decent air-flow... As someone else says, you won't realise you're wearing it. Highly recommended. Oh, and if say your chain snaps as you power off at the lights and you therefore inadvertently throw yourself onto the road head first and the helmet cracks,,,,Kask will give you a discount on a new one - so I've heard, ahem! :)
Maybe a stupid question but would these be suitable to just regular commuting?
Fair enough. I'd go with Wiggle myself as you can use the £10 off £50 new customer code.
One colour, both are having sale, and even if £2 still cheaper hence post and purpose of site. No pleasing some folk
I'd recommend trying them on first, helmets are a very personal thing, personally I didnt like them when I tried them. Evans do them, so you have the added bonus of trying them on in Mike Ashleys shop and buying elsewhere. :)
Have had one of these for about 3 years and would buy another straight away if it got damaged. Very comfy and is premium quality. Good price
Good alternative source but not much choice for medium sizes
Merlin have various colours and sizes of this helmet for £56.99. Link.
It's not my discipline, but it looks like a good price to me!
Just Checked and now all colours are 60% Off even the Black version <3
Can make it under £65 with a discount code
Not this helmet in particular but MIPS is an extra level of protection I would not go without. In the end it's your choice.
For anyone that's interested, there's a recent Virginia Tech report about bike helmets here: www.singletracks.com/mtb-news/virginia-tech-tested-and-rated-the-safest-bike-helmets-finds-mips-is-the-best-for-reducing-concussions/ And the ratings page from the article: www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/bicycle-helmet-ratings.html
I think "a few quid more" is a bit of an overstatement lol. I got a decent helmet from tredz for 1/3 of the price.... If this is something special please feel free to correct me :)
There are no lights on the front, more expensive smart helmets have them on the front as well, such as Lumos Helmets.
Does anyone own one of these? Looks like either the forehead is exposed or the lights aren't visible?
Watch the Video on youtube here:
Dont kids find that scary?!?!!?!?
These look great, any idea of size or age please?
Good lord, I know its cute and all that but don't cheap out on childrens safety equipment.
