Maybe you're right, I'm not an expert by any means, but when I look at photos I took with a cheap digital zoom lens point & shoot camera, well over a decade ago, they look pretty good! I'd be surprised if this is as poor as you state, quality wise. I just reckon high end phone manufacturers are duping us, no way their cameras are worth such extortionate amounts 😏
Always worth checking CEX for s/hand cameras. You can get some pretty decent cameras for very little money and they offer a long warranty, 2 years I think. 'B' grade are normally pretty good.
There are certainly cases for a dedicated compact camera but not one like this which while cheap it's such a poor camera it's a waste of money. It's a much older design than it looks using a very dated 16MP CCD sensor, it's slow, its AF is unreliable, batterylife is poor and it has no image stabilisation at all. The 'electronic VR' is just marketing nonsense for it increasing the iso to boost the shutter which doesn't work well when the sensor is so bad at high iso. Even a cheap smartphone is likely to be able to get better results than this and at least a heck of a lot more convenient.
Is this a more versatile STILL camera than that in a thousand pounds iPhone 11? Tell the truth.... :p
In before the 'just use your phone' brigade: There are still use cases for a dedicated compact camera. This has a decent interface, logically arranged controls, and a smattering of image stabilization. That being said, 720p video is a bit blegh.

Voted hot because of price but I would rather pay the same money for a canon dslr with 2 lenses.
Agree with you, its to slow also
The new Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM is an ideal lens for professional photographers who shoot with the Canon 1D and 5D series of DSLR cameras. The inclusion of Air Sphere Coating (ASC) technology helps to reduce flaring and ghosting, and suppresses the reflection of light.
70-200mm is a very broad area and your mind went to a kit lens which no pros use. Do yourself a favour and leave

Nikon COOLPIX A900 Digital Camera, 20.3MP, 4K Ultra HD, 35x Optical Zoom, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & 3” LCD Tiltable Screen, Silver Or Black£209Amazon Deals
Great price for a compact super zoom camera Nikon’s Coolpix A900 is a small camera with big zoom capability. Its crystal clear Nikkor lens has a mighty 35x Optical Zoom, while a … Read more
yeah i dunno - i am not into the fancy phones so just going by what i read eg trusted reviews "However, the standout feature is its zoom. Its “periscope” lens uses what’s known as folded optics to squeeze a 125mm lens with image stabilisation into the P30 Pro’s 8.4mm-thick body. While it isn’t technically a zoom (there are no moving lens elements, so zooming between 24mm-125mm focal lengths involves some cropping)," though surely between 24 and 125 isnt cropping unless its cropping the 24mm image it does look good though, or as good as can be shown with a 750pixel high image^^
Same here! From what I've read the separate zoom sensor is 8-megapixel with an f/3.4 lens and 5x optical zoom capability using a periscope system of lens elements to fit in the flat phone shape. As for the Ai lossless stuff, looks pretty good to me and most of the reviews I've seen seem to think it's no gimmick.
when the p30 pro is this price i'll buy it too ;) isn't the 'zoom' camera on p30 a lower res/quality module than the rest of the cameras? (and i thought it wasn't really zoom as such?) and ai lossless? doubling resolution by magic? why not do it again its lossless and get 20x etc etc
The P30 Pro has a fully OPTICAL 5X Zoom (with moving glass elements) which can be increased with an Ai lossless 10x zoom that is way better than just a plain cropped image as all reviews and samples I've seen have shown. The P30 Pro doesn't compete against this old Bridge camera with it's 40X optical zoom obviously and it's 5X the price but it certainly does on image quality, low light ability, stunning 4k video and versatility. As a 'photographer' I would choose the Huawei all day and every day over this outdated relic.
For the “photographer” it won’t.P30 is mainly a digital zoom so it just crops the image.A proper zoom which doesn’t lose image quality is one which has moving glass elements within the lens.So if you are in the market to buy a camera you will tend to buy a camera.

I bought the same s10+ sd855 version but the iemi on it is for s10 try to register the iemi with my bank mobile insurance but both iemi turn up as s10 I have no idea what to do I bought it through PayPal I am thinking to raise the issue with PayPal but not sure what to do
Purchased many times from them in the past with no issues, but they failed to deliver on my last 2 orders. Paypal refunded me. If you are in hurry then buy, but beware.

Nikon COOLPIX B500 Digital Camera, 16MP, HD 1080p, 40x Optical Zoom, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3" LCD Screen - £199 @ John Lewis & Partners£199£214.997% offJohn Lewis Deals
A great little camera for travelling when you don't want to use your phone! :)
The lens is going to be really soft at the longer end of its zoom range, it's continuous shooting burst can only get about 7 shots in its buffer (less than a 1 second burst) before slowing down significantly, manual control options are very limited, and at the end of the day it's essentially a bog standard point & shoot with a really big zoom lens attached so image quality isn't spectacular even in ideal conditions. I would not say it's suitable for photographing motorsport, but nothing at this price point is to be honest. If this is the extent of your budget and you're ok with average quality snapshots from a long distance then it's not the worst option imaginable, but if you're looking to get more into photography (especially anything involving fast moving subjects) I would keep saving and get something better on the used market. The Sony A6000 is a killer entry level mirrorless camera, especially for your usage given its well above average continuous shooting abilities and autofocus system. You can probably pick one up and a 55-210mm lens for under £400, it doesn't match the insane zoom ranges achievable on bridge cameras like the B500 here but images will be far better even if you need to crop.
Would this camera be suitable for photography in motorsport? I need a good zoom but also able to capture karts travelling around 50 mph. Any advice would be great as I’m a novice at photography. Thanks
The Panasonic FZ82 is a similar priced bridge camera alternative which has better optical zoom (60x) if that's what you're after.

Sony DSCH400 is 10 times the camera for twice the price. I wouldn't buy anything without an evf.
The physical size of the sensor is the important factor, not the number of pixels. The one in this camera is more than a 6x crop on a full frame sensor, so you will get very noisy results, but at least there's an optical zoom and focal length advantage over a smart phone.
The biggest issue with this for sports shots is the lack of a viewfinder. You'll find it almost impossible to frame an action photo successfully using the screen, particularly in bright sunlight.
Until 2nd May add something cheap to put it over £100 and get a £10 Argos voucher as well.

Here. There a MKIII version out, but not much difference. Proofing for it if you really need to use it http://www.buyandbox.co.uk/waterproof-camera-case-for-sony-rx100-ii.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiAtMSzBRDs7fvDosLZmpoBEiQADzG1vBclE1HVGhYmZOX-WaFCim1k4BIUcr4ZO4suhs6YKVkaAgxj8P8HAQ You'll actually get photos you'll be proud of with this. I have a friend who uses it as her second camera when she's out exploring (she gets paid to blog) and her photos are often stunning from it.
I said super bad actually, don't be an editorialist. I think a lot of people will buy this thinking that it's a nice bonus to have weatherproofing on the camera. And it is a nice bonus. Matter of judgement isn't it really. I bought one thinking the weatherproofing would be a major need when started travelling again regularly, (we do a lot of climbing and low level mountaineering in all seasons) then quickly realised, actually no, the weather rarely rains so heavily that you need something like this apart from say the Highlands on home turf. Usually in those conditions where it's bucketing down, you have low-light too, which this camera doesn't handle well. Very gimmicky, and really anyone serious will want to proof a good camera than to buy a proofed poor one. Nice entry level cam for mucking around under-water I suppose. Zip-lock bag and an iPhone 6x/Samsung Sx is a much better travel partner if you want to point and shoot in the rain. Actually take what I said back now. Even in super bad conditions, still not a good cam because of low light performance. Image stabilisation not really good enough for use in say a kayak. So really, I guess that leaves scuba diving when there's a lot of light.
well ...why the hell would you buy one if you weren't expecting 'bad conditions' thats the whole point of them!
It's performance under water is only okay in any case, if someone was really looking for something to go scuba diving with or whatever probably they should look for something more recent with better quality. Best thing about this camera were the picture modes. The colour picker on it is fantastic. Much better than the equivalent on my A7. Anyway, if you're going exploring and spending cash on adventure trips, then it's a shame to not capture those moments in better quality. That's why I sold mine after a Norway trip, was disappointed later with the images.
Yes, indeed, this is bigger than a phone. Or are you asking if it's OK to fancy something bigger than your phone? Because I don't think it's our place to judge, that's between you and your God!
They didn't! Many (most?) Argos deals are misleading but they know what they need to do to keep within the toothless legislation as currently exists. Forget the claimed 'was' price and just decide whether it's worth this to you.
£95 on Amazon (25/11/15). Don't know how Argos managed to sell this Camera for £189.
The reverse is true in our house. We find the bridge camera easier to pick up quickly, bigger buttons, better grip, can be thrown around more, usually in the Mrs purse. Hopefully you're wrong about them being pointless and they'll keep being produced, as she wants to upgrade it at some point. It's an old Panasonic bought via a very popular HUKD deal years ago.

i bought the day before when they were £48 but after emailing they have given me refund of the difference, nice we camera takes better photos than my phone!
I have the very similar L29 model. Had it since December last year. Still going strong. Much better quality photos than my phone too. Only con is that on the highest quality photo it can sometimes take a little longer to save the file to card. And it's not the speed of the card...I have a class 10
now up to £48??
We bought two of them for our kids when Asda was offering for £39 with case and memory card, sadly not on his deal now. The oldest one is over 3 years old and has been used a lot. My son was only six when he got it and still going today. The newer ones have better resolution, screen and a few new features. Picture quality is better than my mobile and is great to have to hand.
Buy at your own risk although probably better than most phone cameras https://www.ephotozine.com//article/nikon-coolpix-l31-review-27052

Some people seem quite happy to not offer deals themselves and then slam items which are listed. This camera may not be the best in the world, but it's got 4/5 with Amazon reviews and must therefore please more people than most. It's £60 for a camera which is £113.99 on Amazon. That's a good deal in my opinion - That's what this website is about. Thanks for listing - Don't be deterred by negative posts.
Says somebody who felt the need to use up time from their precious life to make such an important and valid point. So long as people know what they are getting.
its a cheap camera for snapshots mate, go get a grip and a life.
safe to say you are a fan then?
You can get the later model of this camera, the L330, on eBay for £80 refurbished by Nikon but having seen a review of it, I would only buy it to give it as a gift to a photographically incompetent person - it offers the user no control whatsoever. This is not a bridge camera (as claimed earlier) let alone an 'excellent bridge camera'; though it might be injection moulded to look like one. Ideal for somebody who knows nothing about photography but is happy to look like somebody who knows even less about photography than somebody who knows nothing about photography; if that were possible. I'm disgusted with Nikon for even putting their name on this toy without at least covering it in cartoon characters.

Looks like a good deal - have some heat. I know this isn't a review site, but if anyone's interested, I have the 9700 which is largely the same, but with bigger zoom and geo tagging (which I've never used). This is a good camera - the pictures are excellent - but there are a few things I preferred on my old Lumix and I would probably go back to one of those next time. The flash is a pain for 2 reasons: it pops up just were I like to hold the camera and if you select no-flash, it resets to auto every time you switch off/on. Other than that the controls are not quite as intuitive as the Lumix. Oh and no external 'thing' for charging the battery - has to be charged in the camera, so can't charge one while using another (if you buy and extra one).
Thanks Ray for your input. Just ordered one so will see for myself soon .
it is a good camera. the zoom is nice and clear and for its sensor size the pictures are sharp. its a definite upgrade from a camera phone. its not as good at night ,ok with flash but without dont expect any pics you would keep. very pocketable though.
Bought one at £110 late last year and it's a superb camera for the money. Very fast startup and shutter response so very easy to catch shots within seconds. 22x zoom just about as much as you can cope with before needing a tripod. If you are in the market for a new camera this is one to be checked out. Voting hot despite the colour (mine is in black!)
I have had a Nikon Coolpix for nearly 5 years, fantastic camera. This one is so far advanced over mine. If you want a decent camera for £100 get it quick.

Weird, sure I stated in the original post that it came with a 2 year guarantee; obviously not...
I think the Hx60 was better in low light, but didn't spend too long with the Nikon to be fair, The price of this kind of takes it into a lower bracket to my mind meaning it is a no brainer... to finish my earlier Essay My Mum's just this second bought one :D Oh and for the OP it's 2 year Guarantee with John Lewis ;)
I'll try to remember to take some pics tonight to show you. It's far better than an older Panasonic I had which cam won't all grainy (hmm I'm spending like a camera addict here) . You have to hold your finger over the flash to stop it popping up automatically unless you've got the flash turned off.

[quote=quik83]I have this camera,as expected it burns AA batteries ( x4) so you need to factor in the price of a couple of sets of good rechargeables or a set of 100 alkaline from maplins like I did. Although it records 1080p the quality is crap it's like they flashed the firmware to support it. It actually records better in 720, this is why I think they have pushed the camera to support it . iPhone 4s beats the video on this hands down. The only good thing about this camera is the zoom but I don't have a 90ft front room so is great when you actually need it ( never ). I wish I had bought a nice compact with a bit of zoom, less bulky and most likely better quality photos. So u up for selling urs to me for £50 then? ;)
