You also can't get a V for that price. It was a replacement for my old broken IV that was paid for with insurance money so I was just glad to have a brand new one instead of a broken old one from 2015. I've not had a problem with my IV other than dropping it and breaking it, so I'm cool with that. But now I can get it for cheaper so I'll have a bit of money saved by the end of this whole mess.

marks

I would be returning or getting more than £10 back as the V has a much better auto focus system than the iv.

l5xeus

You have to make an extra trip to the post office during a pandemic to return an item because they’ve sent a previous gen instead of what you’ve had on order. You should definitely press for more than £10 in compensation if you have the time and energy.

Bubbles_Jones

Absolutely if you can return it so. That's blatant bait and switch! Even if the price was ok its still unfair that you were put in that situation.

Clown

Damn, I bought one 3 weeks ago for £500. The listing was set up as an RX100 V so a newer generation. Obviously the IV was delivered but they added a £10 promo to my account due to the inconvenience and I kept the camera as I had a feeling the listing was just wrong. The price was consistent with the IV so I was happy to keep it. Now it has dropped in price again, I might just return it and buy it again. I should get a full refund and the £10 promo to use on top!

Honestly in terms of picture quality the newer models aren’t appreciably better. They have better video recording and focusing and better viewfinder etc but the results are much the same. The latest ones have much longer zoom but lens isn’t as bright so not necessarily better depending on what you need it for. This is an amazing camera and like other poster said this is best bang for buck camera. If you want a portable camera that takes amazing pictures in all situations and don’t need a powerful zoom this is all you need.

Urchoice

Appreciate that good advice , thanks you

androidavis

I would say yes just as useful if you have a recent Apple iPhone (my daughter has the XS and there is no doubt it’s good at photos1). That could be just as useful in terms of being able to capture the moment (it’s normally on you), travelling light (your phone fits in your pocket), the photos are good enough (in a good way) in the majority of situations. For portrait the RX100 is fabulous but you may end up wipping the Sony out occasionally and the Apple phone still doing most of the work. I would say the RX100 is just ace at taking photos indoors. What they call low light photography. And I mean really good quality especially with the tilt-able flash to bounce its flash. Personally I think the Mark III rx100 has been the sweet spot in the range in terms of bang for buck. The more recent ones give your videos 4K treatment but then, again, so does your phone. A way to go maybe to order one from CEX online used, ‘check it’, and if you have simply ‘changed your mind’ you can return it to your most local store who will process a refund of your online order, as long as it is in their stipulated 1 or 2 week from delivery requirement (I can’t remember from memory). You can’t do that if you buy ‘in store’. This tip was given to me by a staff member in my local store

Urchoice

Looking at around 300 ish Mark . Just generally for catching my 2 young children grow up . Could be days outs , playing in garden and portrait type pictures . I currently have an iPhone XS . Could this be just as useful ...??

Not as good as the fuji deal the other day but better than the £799 it has been for a while. Lovely camera, the ibis makes it a lot better than the 2.
DealHugger

Good choice, you should be well covered for travel then. I don't have the pleasure to own the 16-55, but it is really highly regarded in almost all reviews, probably the best APS-C standard zoom. Do remember to claim Sony cashback on both the body and lens if you have recently purchased them.

MPD1

Ah the trusty 35mm is long gone I’m afraid, I figured if I was getting a bigger body anyway that was no longer pocket size, I might as well add a bit more versatility than a prime. Using the 16-55 now which I’m really enjoying actually.

DealHugger

Make good use of the Eye AF, you will forget your A5100 pretty quickly :) I certainly don't miss my NEX-5 which was super slim. If you enjoy using 35mm/1.8 OSS which I have too, then GR is definitely very different. I very often carry both of them.

DealHugger

I think I would definitely pick A6600 for travels. A6600 is tougher and weather sealed, battery lasting way longer (GR is ~200 shots each battery). It is hard to predict what to expect when travel, having a zoom will definitely help. I also feel GR needs a bit of babying because of the dust issue for the sensor. Eye AF on A6600 is also convenient for travel photos, not to mention the video.

MPD1

Oh that's interesting to get your first hand experience of both, thanks. Maybe I didn't make the wrong choice then. I'll be honest I mainly use my camera on holidays or day trips, rather than dedicated photography outings. Sounds like the extra bulk of the a6600 may be worth it for my use then. I do sometimes miss my old a5100 paired with the Sony 35mm though, the size was just so great!

Great shots. Never knew it had a macro mode, I’ll have a look at mine today

Adiebear

Had this for about a year and a half . Nice little camera that feels good in your hands. Battery life is very good but would highly recommend one of the battery and charger packs you can pick up on Amazon, it means you won’t have to wear out the connector on the camera. As people have said, the zoom is great, well worth the money.

Great little camera. I bought one 4 years ago, thought I’d broken it within weeks, only to get it up and running again this week. Polaroid are a pretty mediocre brand nowadays but 8x optical, 20MP sensor and 1080p video are quite impressive. It probably will beat the camera functions of many low to mid level smartphones. Also most smartphones don't have optical zooms I think, just digital so at 8x optical you would need a phone with a 160MP sensor if it only had digital zoom to match it in quality. Doesn't seem too bad for the money anyway and it's nice to have a camera ready to use. I personally don't get on so well with camera phone's with many images turning out poorly. I can get some amazing images with phones but normally I spend more time setting them up so less good for quick shots.

this is cheap but one may already have a better camera on his smartphone.

Every time I turn the car off. The next time I turn it on I have an sd card error. It seems like it spikes the sd card on power off. Are they supposed to have a battery inside?

Donald__Trump

I had this delivered last week. The camera does its job well, however, it has a faulty battery, it does not store the time and date. The cam just turns off entirely as soon as I turn the key. When I turn my car on, all of my settings are always reverted and I am always brought back to the "date and time" settings. the cam is going back for a full refund.

Bob_Lewis

I've still not had delivery and this was ordered 4 weeks ago, also had two messages to say it's waiting to be picked up from my post office and three messages of it's on route. Don't think I will use this supplier again as I've messaged them 4 times without a single answer back.

The real Polaroid hasn't existed for years. These are just more bottom end Chinese tat with a once great name slapped on them. Your phone will take better pictures. Stand alone cameras have a place for serious hobbyists and professionals but this won't come anywhere near that.

fiqqer

That is my experience too. I bought a previous model of this for work. It was not suitable for intended use. The images were of poor quality, cheap plastic throughout. The zoom mechanism failed after a few months. Returned it and went back to Canon who at least make good quality cameras, even though they cost more.

GrahamStoneman

I think a lot of these cheap cameras are the same model rebadged by different manufacturers. Don't even bother. The quality is shocking, poor shutter speed, no good for anything indoors. On ours the menu no longer works reliably. I only got it for a child to use but it wasn't worth the frustration it brought us!

DONT you will regret it... I am a photographer and have the TZ60 and the camera requires very bright light to perform. Soon as you get slight clouds the ISO raises and the quality is terrible even at 400 iso.. stay away, got to be far the worst compact I own. Sony is better, trust me.

benbird7

You would want the tz90 with the flip screen, not great in low light though. Maybe the lx15 not got the zoom but better in lower light. I've got the tz80/lx15.

I don't think so, you cannot charge the camera and use at the same time (WTF are they thinking?!) - unless I've missed something here?!

Have one of these and have used it for about a year. They are great for taking on a beach, using whilst snorkeling. If that's what you want, then this is for you. As a general holiday camera, a bit disappointing. The photos are very unsaturated and not as crystal as you would expect compared to a camera on a decent phone. The app to connect you wirelessly is a joke. You have to set the camera up as a wireless access point and connect to it. To do this successfully is a random act of God. I just stick the SD card in PC, as it's way less hassle. Having said all that, I'm glad I bought it as I have some nice photos in the surf that I wouldn't have taken otherwise.

That was a good price for the mark 1 that really is over priced along with most of the range now. I recently picked up a Lumix TZ100 with a longer zoom, viewfinder etc for under £300, making Sony,s once flagship cameras look as they are, overpriced.

Haircut_100

I was in Jessops the other day and saw that they had a deal on for the RX100 at £200. I was quite excited as I just thought that it would be a model that was a couple of years old but was a little spruced surprised when the guy in the shop said that it was a Mk 1. I’d just assumed that it would have been retired years ago, similar to how Canon deal with their Powershot G models add new ones come out.

Haircut_100

It’s important to bear in mind that a camera like this will give you the physical controls that a camera phone lacks. I’m sure that your phone can take a really nice picture but this will give you a much more hands on shooting experience, easy access to PASM modes and control of aperture and shutter speed, exposure compensation, an optical viewfinder, as well as mount for a tripod, RAW capture, etc.

Freddy_uk

I have a mk4 is a decent compact but these things are very fragile.

Rear view camera is handy as a motorcyclist clipped my car whilst I was stopped at traffic lights scraping it this week. I only had front view camera which showed him turning around snd acknowledging something had happened Police weren’t interested and didn’t even want to contact him after not exchanging details after a RTA- they said he would probably deny it. After I insisted they said they would try and contact him but 20 mins later got a text saying they were unsuccessful

Kojo_Segu

Quick question: I have never ordered from aliexpress ever before. Due to the reviews/comments on how good this is, if I do order it will it incur extra charges like VAT, tax and customs etc or the £23.40 is the only price I will pay

Search RX100 on HUKD, was only posted a day or so ago.

andiwall

I also had the TZ200 on my watch list as I have always had Panasonics and really like them, it's also slightly larger than the RX100, which I like and to me the menu system is more intuitive but it just seems to stick stubbornly around the £569 mark, unless you buy from Photospecialist, and that may be a grey import. My photographer friend tells me the RX100 VI is the one to go for but my heart says the TZ200, and with the £100 cashback making the Sony £40 cheaper it's hard to say no (annoyed)

harrythefish

I've had the Lumix TZ200 on my watch list hoping for post-Xmas reductions. Then this Sony pops up as just about the only other handbaggable camera on the market with a 1 inch sensor. However the Lumix is still my choice as for me & the Mrs a 15x zoom is the point of carrying a camera as well as a phone. But, good spot OP this Sony will suit many as a phone camera outperformer. I do agree to a point, smartphones are more efficient, and can be better for ease of use - but are not always better depending on the situation. I am not going to let my son take a samsung galaxy s10 or a DSLR camera on school expeditions in bad weather, near lakes etc, hence the small price to pay for the digital camera. But each to their own! (flirt)

Some of what you say is true, your phone is always with you and it's undoubtedly easier to take photos on a phone if you want to share them on social media etc. But I would suspect the sensor on one of these will be superior to a phone in terms of noise levels and low-light ability, and the lens will almost certainly be superior (contrast, sharpness, edge definition, distortion), which is very hard to engineer into an almost flat optic like in a phone, despite all the trickery employed. One other factor is the significant benefits of an optical zoom, which (as far as I know) no phone has - when you zoom with a phone camera you're simply just looking at a smaller proportion of the same image blown up, and you can achieve none of the compositional benefits of a wide angle versus a telephoto etc. Image stabliisation is likely much better too. Additionally, it is likely that on most phone cameras there is a significant shutter lag (time between pressing the button and the photo actually being taken). That is probably much less noticeable in a 'real' camera like this (and better again on a DSLR). A DSLR will be a considerable level above a compact camera like this on most of these counts, and allows a further level of involvement and technical quality, but is likely to cost at least three times as much too. To be honest, if anyone is showing any real interest in photography, I'd probably recommend getting hold of a second hand DSLR (or even a film SLR) and start with that, rather than a compact. Of course, for a lot of people this stuff doesn't matter much and the phone is more than enough. But it doesn't mean the phone camera is better. It's just more convenient. So IMO something like this sits somewhere between your phone camera and a DSLR in terms of complexity and quality, and therefore does arguably serve a purpose for some people.

First of no need to carry this extra item which is heavy weight and delicate . Plus multi lenses and artificial intelligence producing better picture and 4k videos on phone , especially in low light conditions. Also fast internet already to upload on cloud if needed. Phone is always there , I don't see any need for these unless Professional Grade camera like DSLR etc .

Genuine question if you're an expert on cameras as I used to buy these standalone cameras years back but haven't bought one in ages. Would an entry level digital camera as posted here be comparable or better for still images compared to an iPhone X/Pro or Samsung S10?
