Cheeky Currys, lumping on an extra £175 in a week.

I would agree with you for the majority of the time. But we are at a very unusual time right now and AMD have surprised the PC world with the new consoles. For the first time the new consoles have set a high new gaming "baseline". If you buy a PC that matches or beats this baseline your PC will be relevant for the generation. If you buy a PC now that is below the new console baseline then it will not be relevant for as long. This PC is pretty good but does not match the new console baseline. So it's worth keeping that in mind as it's a lot of money to invest and you usually want your investment to last as long as possible

The PS5 has 8 cores 16 threads (this PC is 8 threads), next gen PCIe 4.0 NVme SSD. 16GB GDDR6. And people estimate the GPU beats a RTX 2070

Consoles aren't going to beat this pc lol

Hmm. Interesting. Decent card, if you're looking to save a few quid and only want 1080p gaming. You can get that card from Amazon.de for EUR304 (~£275) https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/reviews/evga-geforce-rtx-2060-ko-ultra-gaming

This benchmarks at a 9% improvement over the 5700.... https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2060S-Super-vs-AMD-RX-5700/4049vs4046 and nVidia are more consistent with their drivers and supprt.

This or a normal 5700?

Or you could get the £300 Rtx2060 KO by EVGA

The AMD RX 5700XT would suit you better then, with similar performance and a similar price tag and has 3 x DP and 1 x HDMI.

For a GPU, past £500 mark, it’s diminishing returns just for gaming. Hopefully AMD and consoles put up more of a fight this time around so that the prices will be more sensible from Nvidia.

Good deal on the 2070 Super that, but how often do they come up? If it was £350 would be on par with this deal price to performance but obviously all depends on the condition. If this is in perfect condition like yours its a decent price in my opinion and if not just send it back.

£190. Could have spent ages waiting for a bargain on ebay etc and still wouldn't have had 90 days warranty. They were msi too and had a year of manufacturer warranty too .msi apparently will accept returns without reciepts.

Can always be sent back if it turns out to be a bad b grade. Worth a shot at this price. There is no guarantee the prices will drop significantly when the new line comes out.

My only experience with B grade stuff from OCUK is an RX580 which was a great deal back in 2018 at £180 due to gpu shortages for mining, however it was immediately faulty on arrival. Would work without any issues whatsoever in desktop/browsing - as soon as you turn on a game the screen would be flooded with green horizontal lines and the game would freeze and the system would only work again after restarting the pc

Not a great deal. If you are a forum member there, you can sometimes haggle these b grades down. I got a top of the range 2070 super for £320 earlier in the year. Was in perfect condition and has worked with no issues. £300 for a used 2060 super seems really expensive , especially now we are so close to the new cards.

Do you know what it has been up to? I think your statement that it can 'go up to 110c' is pretty ludicrous as it suggests that's an 'ok temperature'. If a card ever hits that temp, avoid it like the plague.

It's never been anywhere near 110 playing the latest releases, so I don't regret my purchase it's a great graphics card for a great price

110c? Never buy a card that goes up to 110c by standard. That isn't normal and will absolutely cause issues with card itself, if not the rest of your hardware. Way too hot. That is past the boiling point, it would likely instantly burn you if touched and could cause issues with water elsewhere.

I'm not really concerned as its meant to get hot most amd cards are, the 5700 can go up to 110c, but yes I need better cooling only have 3 fans at the moment (embarrassed)

Ok so your room must be baking too, i have a amd rx 480 and it runs at 70-80c while gaming so i was thinking next gpu nvidea because Im assuming they run cooler my friend has a 1060 and that reaches 40-50c when playing valorant and my amd is runs at 75c

You're probably right. The tflops on the one x and the 2060 are about the same, I think (off the top of my head so might be wrong!) Suits me, though, since I seeded the xbox one and can now catch up on all the stuff i missed since exclusives are available on the pc too. Saying that, having built the thing and signed up to game pass, first thing we played was Age of Emprires! Not sure it makes the most of the card, tbh. Still fun, though.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Flight Simulator and hopefully that's where the 2060 will pull away from the 1660 S

Great news about the code @Bossworld I do see what you mean about pc games and comparing to Xbox. I often fire mine up and thing the same.. They do look good and perform well (y)

Game code sold for £25, so after deducting the £2 Amazon no rush credit that's £242.66. £30 more than a 1660 Super seems OK in my book? I fired up Forza Horizon 4, GTA V, both look good but other than the boost to 60fps to be honest I'm not really sure there's much difference to playing on my Xbox

There's another £270 deal on Amazon if you don't mind 1-2 months delivery.. Wouldn't be getting this in 2 months as will be even closer to the new releases.. However, still don't think it impact mid-low level cards anyway.. people don't upgrade a 2060 to a 3080ti very often ;) so used prices will stay the same.. As prooven with previous releases. Either but now or wait guys.. that's was the decision I took.. I bought ;)

Quick update (if anyone is interested). Currys offered to refund (quite rightly) but HP said they'd be happy to do a proper refurb for me. They picked it up on Monday and it came back yesterday with a new case, replacement Cmos battery, an internal clean - and a 2070 rtx (complete with an extra DP and thunderbolt port) instead of the 2060 it went out with. The warranty has also been reset! So a big boo to Currys and a round of applause to HP. This is now the best bargain I've ever found on here so thank you OP! :)

That's not good at all. Bodged, not refurbished.

Ok so I tried the ebay Windows key thing. Nothing arrived and now ebay have removed the listing. Paypal payment pending by the looks of it so I guess it's not the end of my £3.40 :D Just unlucky or is this normal for this "grey" area? Please can someone advise wether this will run Flight Simulator 2020? I have no idea about specs of computers to be honest.

It would be much the same. I'd have a few friends playing Xbox/PS and my more "hardcore" will also be doing PC. I'm bang into Warzone at the moment but it's not a case ofe looking to become a streamer or what not. I'm looking for a good gaming PC I can upgrade down the line if needs be to keep it at the higher end of things. I think the costs even out over the lifecycle as games are a hell of a lot cheaper on PC and I always end up buying the upgraded version of the consoles when they release as well.

Depends, just gaming, ps5 will be decent bang for buck, but as many know u can do so much with a PC far further, so depends what type of player u are and what ur really interested in doing, will take a good whack of a system into the next cards to beat a ps5. i will be upgrading my gpu laters this year from my 5700xt liq dev, and purchasing the new xbox too, as ive got friends on both sides, so thats one major factor, who do u game with?

Hi pal, ive used this Kolink its a fair budget PSU, remember you have got 3 years warranty and support on this line (even if u dont take the extra package, so u are worry free. - but if desirable "more over peace of mind" then u can request this build via sales@palicomp.co.uk and ask for the 500W Riotoro (which is basically a Seasonic) Defo a good plan: remove the NVME and obtain one urself, freedom of choice which u cant knock. and the 1650s is really good GPU, a little high atm due to the market as its an mid range productive gpu with everyone been working from home, but it does give a good bang for buck, only 4GB Vram but it is DDR6 rather then 8gb of DDR5 under the rx580 though and will do u extremely well with the type of games ur looking at. well more then good. RX570 will also do u well too if u wanted to save, and u can pick them up quite cheap used as well. B550 is worthy if u plan on going down the upgraded route of zen3.. and the higher storage options laters on under that lane, but from the feel i get from yourself, it prob might not be the best choice tbh, ull end up paying for somehting u wont really benefit from. B450 version is a high T spec too.

Just recieved my PC from AWD-IT and the damn thing won't turn on (confused) There's power as the light on the graphics card is on, but when I press the 'power on' button on top there's nothing at all. Couldn't get through on the phone and live chat is unavailable so I've sent them an email so hopefully they won't take long to reply. Anyone got an idea what it can be? I've checked all the cables inside and they all seem fine and firmly attacted everywhere. Not sure how this could be been tested and working fine before they sent it out and now not turning on?

Its a lot simpler than it sounds. Essentially RAM isnt made at different speeds, it is sorted into what speed it is capable of. So they will all start at the same base frequency, but you need to enable the profile to get the advertised speeds. Anyone who knows more feel free to add. It is not difficult, search it up on youtube.

And benefit I guess?

Yes. Is it not your opinion?

That's an opinion

I will not be able to play all my PC games on next gen consoles. Yet you say "they'll both play all the same games" and that is just utter nonsense. GPU prices are still inflated, but its been like that for a while now. 1660 ti were available for £207 on release from amazon which was cracking at the time, and would still be a decent price even today. One one hand I'd buy now though before India and China kick off, which is likely to be pretty serious, or wait till autumn when new cards appear

This was a good price given the recent market. Prices seem to be coming down again to a reasonable price.

yeah tbf I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer if it weren't for the fact all my other parts are here. £237 would have been a pretty good price. Wouldn't pay over £200 for a 1660ti, let alone a super personally, but needs must, and the GPU market is crap at the moment

Warranty mate

It fully depends on what matters to you more. At a similar price, you either get a brand new, slightly worse performing GPU with full warranty, or a slighty better card that's been used for potentially up to 4 years and that has no warranty. I've had enough issues with various GPUs over the years to never want to risk not having a warranty, ESPECIALLY on a card that's already been in use for years. In my experience, GPUs last about 3-4 years for me, before they start having issues, so I would personally not buy a used 1080 at this point in its lifespan.

Gumtree has several in the £270-£280 range.

I guess this is cheapest decent RTX 2060 - it has entry level ray tracing and is marginally better than AMD 5600XT - so I would say it is a good price. But If you not bothered by ray tracing and don't mind AMD, 5600 sound like a better value, especially Sapphire one

I've been keeping an on ebay and my experience is that you'd struggle to pick up a used non-blower 1080 for less than £290. Most go for £300 and up. Blowers don't go for much less than that. Where are you finding them significantly cheaper?

i was kind of joking, however... when working with numbers all day, a touch number pad is next to useless when used to a physical keypad. Laptop isn't designed for this, which means i can't convince the wife to buy this for her business :D

Been in the market for a few weeks now for a laptop, and this one wasn't for me and I stated why. I thought it was okay to still have an opinion on a product, and I happened to agree with the other chap. I don't really see this as bemoaning it, when it is 1 single isolated feature of the product. I also really don't see why "It's sad" as you describe either. That your happy with the product I am pleased to hear, I don't find your defence of the screen aspect sad at all, and I respect you have a quite differing opinion on that.

You clearly haven't used it and that makes non sense. The whole point is that this gives you more screen space, and a second screen in a smaller form factor. A larger screen doesn't work well for dual screening, and would require a larger laptop. It's also pen and touch compatible, and having it low down is great for inking - like writing in a notebook. This is so much better than Apple's efforts. Asus are properly innovating and people just call gimmick. You can't win. Haters gonna hate. Options such as this, that clearly many people value (given comments and reviews), are only a good thing. There are so many normal laptops out there, why bemoan something different? It's sad.

I completely agree Waldoff. There may be a reasonable argument for their being built in 2nd monitor option for travel, but it still feels gimmicky to me. I would have thought a 17" or 19" single screen with high resolution and a programmed interface for splitting the 1 screen into separate segments would have been better.

Read the top line on this page, now read the bottom. You moved your neck didn't you? If you've got a big screen you moved your neck through quite a few degrees and didn't think about it. It's exactly the same with this laptop. It's really not as big a deal as you'd think. Part of that's due to the bottom screen being propped up by the hinge of the laptop, part of that's due to it wanting to be pushed back on a desk to be more comfortable, and part of that's due to plain smaller screens. It's more like having the bottom half of a desktop monitor and then a notepad propped up underneath that.

Can't comment on the G15, but on this the heat is not noticeable. The fans are moderately loud, but if I didn't check the temps on the ROG Armoury Crate, I would have no clue that it's averaging 95-97 degrees whilst playing warzone on ultra settings.

Keyboard is warm, I've never noticed while playing though. I found myself checking keys more often due to seeing the same video you did. You have a 14 day window. Try out a game and see what you think. I don't think there is a gaming laptop in existence which doesn't get warm. Also the screen is really very good on the Dell, I certainly noticed and use a MBP for work The Asus TUF has appalling cooling as well apparently (and a naff screen)

what's the heat like on the keyboard after a couple of hours of play? heard very worrying things. I ordered one but thinking of returning it when it arrives.

I can't speak for longevity, but I freaking love my Dell G5 SE (AMD) I've done long gaming sessions, it does gets warm while gaming (gaming laptops get warm/hot) but it's never throttled and has fantastic FPS for the money.
