JustEat won’t resolve my wrong order, what should I do

Posted 6th Aug 2023
On 03/08/2023, I placed an order with McDonald’s for a meal that came to £17.50. I received an order that was completely different from what I had ordered.

Here’s what I had originally selected:

Sugar Donut
1 Large Big Mac® Meal
Large Fries
Large Coca-Cola Classic
1 Double BBQ Quarter Pounder with cheese

I received only a Fanta drink and none of the burgers or specific items I had ordered. Even the attached receipt clearly showed the mistake, as it did not match my order at all.

I filed a support ticket hoping to get a quick refund.

The next day, I received an email requesting proof of the incorrect order. I attached a photo of the receipt from the incorrect delivery.

the day after that, I got another email asking for a picture of the actual food I received. I couldn’t capture a picture of a Fanta drink that was delivered two previous . I responded to this email, explaining and attached the receipt photo again, clearly showing the error.

Just eat then said that they can’t assist me without a photo of the received items, despite me providing solid evidence through the receipt picture.

It seems like there no way to contact them to make an official complaint? What can I do about it

I think that is fair enough. For all they know you got your order correctly but they put the wrong receipt in. I'm not sure why you didn't take a pic of the food.

But that doesn't stop you removing the burgers, fries and other bits out of view for a photo...

Had items missed off orders, they never rectify it, just fob you off. Had a deliveroo order never turn up because they couldn’t find my address.

A week of back and forth emails and they said because I didn’t show ID (order contained alcohol) they couldn’t deliver it. Asked them how they asked me for ID when they couldn’t find my address..

Had to do a chargeback as they wouldn’t refund me.

PayPal claim, provided you used them to pay.

Complain direct to McDonald’s by email. That’s what I did when store wouldn’t help and uber eats wouldn’t. I received voucher codes for 3 meals.

Today I learnt people will happily spend £17.50 to have 1 McDonalds meal delivered 😫 (edited)

    £7 delivery

I always wonder why folks chose McDonald's kids burgers when there are so many good burger places doing decent burger meal deals for about £7 or under. (edited)

I think the rise in theses companies (uber eats, just eat and deliveroo etc) have caused the consumer more problems than what it is worth. Ironically it is the increase in the usage of these apps which has caused the problem.

A lot of food delivery places have little choice but to sign up to these apps, which they them have to pay for that priveledge. Which in turn means they have to accept the extra cost, or more than likely pad the extra cost onto the consumer.

As a consumer we often have to pay a booking fee, a delivery fee and any other cost they tack on (priority delivery etc).

The delivery drivers get paid very low, so often have to work for multiple delivery companies at a time, and do multiple deliveries at the same time. They are just trying to make a living.

The apps know that they have not got the market covered, so can offer terrible customer service.

I very rarely use these apps, and usually go direct with a local restaurant. Interestingly the local restaurant, offer a 20 percent discount if you order through them direct, rather than through one of these apps, which shows the amount of money the companies get from each order.

However, lady week I ordered 3 burger meals the other day using uber eats. Was told would be delivered between 25 and 45 minutes. Cost was £47. Delivery turned up 1 hour 15 minutes later, and as expected was stone cold.
Tried to complain, but could not get through to a person, so had to fill in a form. Got am email a few hours later to say I had been given a discount but not how much. When I checked it was for £15.

The rare times I order through one of these apps, it very rarely goes well, and I am shocked at just how much extra money I have to pay for the priveledge.

I get these companies need to make money. But the restaurant have to pay extra, which means the price of food goes up. The customer paid more in terms of the booking and delivery. The driver gets paid very little. So it's these companies which are making lots of money, and provide a service which is worse than if you usually preferred directly through the restaurant.

How on earth didn't you notice at the door when it was delivered?

I live in a flat so use my mums address for deliveries she lives just across the street. The drink was in crate so it probably seemed like there was more than just a drink in it

Go find a McDonald’s drink cup in a bin somewhere and urinate in it. Or fill with diluted orange juice but this is less funny. Take photo, tell them it’s the Fanta you received. Get refund.

Its just a paperwork exercise for them. (edited)

What happened to the order that was delivered? I don’t understand why you couldn’t have included a photo of the order along with the receipt.

It was a drink of Fanta and I drunk it, I thought it was my coke, then I tasted the fanta I just assumed that they got it mixed up, then when I asked my mum for the rest she said that was all that was delivered.. I live in a flat so use my mums address for deliveries.

Just do a chargeback and be done with it. If Just-Eat ban your account, open a new one.

the receipt isn't solid evidence at all, as others have explained. if you have the packaging in the bin, take a photo of that and explain as you got it yesterday you ate it as you didn't get the food you wanted and you were hungry.tell them you didn't expect to need photos of the items, but read the T&C's first as that may explain you need to do that for a claim, so if you haven't followed the T&Cs and they won't budge, the other option is to raise a complaint with the store itself or annoy them on twitter if that dont work

basically you've got about £7 or stuff instead of £17 so you need to consider if it's worth the time and hassle for the money, or put it down to experience and learn a lesson

Well I would have taken a picture first of everything, submitted the complaint and start from there. You know what to do next time. Make sure a leave a nice and lengthy review down as well. Hopefully meanwhile, just keep trying.

Interestingly, I had a problem with Just Eat and a McDonalds order.

Our order was a bit late, but ok.

We then checked everything to see if we had all our items and were missing and we'd ordered 4 Apple Pies.

So I instantly flagged them on the app and they were refunded.

However, we then bite into our food and it was stone cold.

But as we'd complained about the apple pies - the app wouldn't recognise the problem.

I tired every avenue from contacting the website, to Twitter and they just ignored everything.

    So instead of a deserved £30 refund...we got £4.

Considering McDonald's burgers and fries are luke warm when ordering in store, I'm amazed that they are able to get them delivered anything but stone cold
