A new Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom OLED Console has just been announced by Nintendo, also a pro controller and case. The console launches on 28th April, the controller and case launch alongside the game on 12th May.
Pre-Orders:
Also a pro controller and case:
Since this is the OLED version of the Switch console, it might be worth detailing the improvements this version of the console has over the other current model. There is of course the Switch Lite too, but there is less of a comparison there due to the lite being a handheld only device.
The current non-OLED variant (HAC-001 -01) released in September 2019 with a more efficient chip that improved battery life from around 2.5 to 6.5 hours to around 4.5 to 9 hours in handheld mode.
The OLED variant performs identically as you'd expect, considering it uses the same Nvidia processor as the 'improved battery life' version, but the upgrades are certainly a 'nice to have' and it's not hard to be impressed by the increased vibrancy, brightness and viewing angles on the larger screen. The OLED screen is now glass, as opposed to plastic on the LCD model and features smaller, glossy bezels for a more premium look and feel.
Spec Details Comparison (Screen)
The Kickstand has been improved too, with adjustable viewing angles and a more robust design.
In terms of Audio, in handheld mode Nintendo have tweaked the sound from the stereo speakers which are new with a changed design build. The results are a louder capable volume level than previously and increased clarity.
The dock has two USB ports as before, an HDMI port for connecting to a TV, but also a new wired LAN port, allowing for more stable online play when playing in TV mode.
A further design change to the dock is the new cable routing, which is designed to help keep the cables looking less untidy and visible.
Spec Details Comparison (Tablet Size)
Nintendo also increased the internal storage size of the OLED model, from 32GB to 64GB. A nice increase that will be useful initially, but further storage will very likely be needed with the use of a microSD card before too long.

- gdjv798798Has any one got any recommendations about where to preorder the game from?
I want a physical copy and to be able to play it on the day/weekend of release. (Rather than some where that will ship it snail mail on release day so that it turns up 4 days after release)mrsjh77Very seem to have stock intermittently....I've ordered from there and it's scheduled for delivery on release day. - pantherunciawho are these people one ebay. why is there hundreds listed at around £500, all private sellers when its not even out for a month. most of them stating that its rare, limited and out of stock... what a load of lies. some people have even bought them when they are readily available and will be when released in a month. World is maddanny.kerrMadness really. It's been in stock most of the day if you want it and haven't got it then you don't really want it lol. I didn't even know about it and I've managed to get 2 pro controllers, a case, a switch (cancelled the switch now as changed my mind) and even a collectors edition of the game lol within 24hr (edited)
- crack_shotthe only reason to buy this is to leave it boxed up for 10 years and sell it on ebay to some nitendrone collector
personally cannot personally wait to see how my switch version of tears compares to my steam deck versionxtrem3xPretty sure the ship has sailed with that kind of thing.
Everybody and their dog are keeping consoles boxed up to sell years down the line. It only works on the older gen consoles because people didn't used to do it back then so there are less in good condition.
This is £319... In 10 years time it maybe worth £400(?) So £80 profit in 10 years minus inflation. You're better off buying Lego. Or buying a mint condition boxed N64 and holding onto it another 10 years.
The only reason to keep this boxed is for a possible future exploit which is compatible with whichever firmware this ships with - you_gotta_be_kiddingI've had breath of the wild for 18 months now, still sealed in the packaging, I've never once played a zelda game but given the hype I wanted to wait until I had enough time to properly get into it, life is so hectic nowadays. Is it really that good?Leigh36295I think it varies depending on how much time you put into it. First time I played was when it first came out, I did some of the shrines and focused on just getting to the endgame asap and thought it was a bit disappointing. Played it again a few years ago and this time just explored everywhere, completed all shrines, found the best armour/weapons etc and I loved it. There's so much to it that you can miss a lot of the good stuff if you don't take your time. It'll last you months if you don't get much time to play anymore (though you'll find yourself making time 😜)

The Nintendo Switch – OLED Model - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition, features a special design from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, including the familiar Hylian Crest from the Legend of Zelda series on the front of the dock.
Glossy white dock with Hylian illustrations
On the surface of the glossy white dock, symbols featured in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game are displayed in gold along with the Hylian Crest.
Hardware with designs from the game
A mysterious pattern that appears throughout Hyrule decorates the back of the system.
Joy-Con controllers
The included Joy-Con controllers feature the classic green and gold colours from the Legend of Zelda series along with symbols and patterns from the new game.
Play anytime, anywhere
Nintendo Switch – OLED Model features a vibrant 7-inch OLED screen, a wide adjustable stand, a dock with a wired LAN port (LAN cable sold separately), 64 GB of internal storage (a portion of which is reserved for use by the system), and enhanced audio in handheld and tabletop mode.
PLEASE NOTE: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom software is not included.danny.kerrmakes me wonder if i even want the oled switch now, might just treat myself to the controller and case. no game included is bonkers and the fact it is old hardware with a switch 2 around the corner... hmm... - WhiteSeven
- wustopherWait a minute, the console doesn't even come with the bloody game?!?! WTH?! Even games companies have started screwing us over more than usual...arch101I don't mind too much. In the past, when the game came with the console, it was a digital copy (pre-installed).
For those of us who want either the physical copy, or the Collector's Edition, and the console, doing it this way stops us having to buy the game twice. - SardonicusSeems I've missed out on the Pro Controller, gutted. But I managed to snag the console + case. Some you win, some you lose 🤷cra1g0sI think it’s too early to say that considering Amazon, Game Collection, John Lewis and Argos have not shown their hand yet
