There's different deals every day on Amazon where they offer established authors and books for 99p.
Even KU books are rarely expensive. An example is The Yorkshire Murder Mystery Series by J. R. Ellis - they're only £1 each, you could get all 8 books for less than a month's subscription to KU - and own them!
KU is great when it's free, but there's no way I'll ever be subscribing again at the current price.
