Was in two minds to post this due to reviews but looks ok for the price. Also Amazon title it as 1TB HDD but other sites and lower description state it as SSD as you would expect. … Read more

Shame after 2-3 services you could have pushed for a replacement, its what I did after the technician they sent cracked a daughterboard which rendered my left USB, Sound and Headphone jack inoperable. I was sent an R3 as the R2 was no longer in production. I did have to fight them though as they insisted on repairing the unit. Problem was the whole board was arcing and shorted out. I am 100% confident under the sales of goods act you could get them to fix it or replace it even out of warranty providing you can prove the issue occurred within the first year and continued in the 2nd.

I bought the same one over a year ago. It just overheats... I had 2 services done by Dell they replaced the fans first time and fans + motherboard and GPU second.. This laptop is just not designed properly to handle the heat...

Folks, can anyone recommend a high spec gaming laptop for maybe up to £1500 to replace my Asus tuf 705d with gtx 1650? It doesnt seem to work with my oculus quest for starters, and I've had it a while now.would prob be looking at 17" again. Thanks

I have the R3 version, the keyboard & track pad are the best I've ever had on a laptop.

I upgraded from a 1060 myself and i'm loving it! The same to you pal, enjoy whatever games you play! I'm still playing age of empires 2 and dota 2 on mine...could have stuck with the 1060 (lol)

If it’s unwanted then really you should be paying for that but I believe PayPal may still do that free unwanted returns thing (maybe it’s ended - anyone know)? If the item is faulty then the seller pays or provides a label - I know lots of dodgy buyers say it’s faulty just so they don’t have to pay.

johnf86

Ok. I never knew that. What about postage?

Thanks for the advice regarding keys. I hope it brings me as much joy as the Alienware brought you. First day but it does look amazing, especially when compared to my Dell running a 1060. Even basic games fell more fluid. Have a lovely day mate

Thanks for the advice. I'll do that

Not bad until it catches fire after an hour on play time like all the other gaming laptops out there

I've got this! Would add I'm really happy with it and mostly use it for software dev + gaming. It's been pretty flawless for that, and imo if you're buying something that's a higher-end laptop then you're either going to be carrying a charger around with you regardless or you'd be better off going for something more ultrabook-y (lighter and/or with a longer-lasting battery). I'm a huge fan of pretty much everything on it with a few exceptions: 1. The trackpad, or really, the mouse/click portion of it. This is by far the worst aspect of the laptop - mine switches between getting stuck and feeling so loose you can hear it jiggle when you move the laptop. That said, I'm nearly always using a mouse so it's not a dealbreaker for me, might also just be me not looking after it properly. I should add everything else feels totally solid and well built, the trackpad mouse is just bad for some reason - I think this is a common gripe with this specific model though. 2. The charger is absolutely enormous. what with covid and stuff I'm not moving around as much between lectures as I used to, so this isn't a huge issue, but the charger is just very large. 3. Bottom mounted webcam. The webcam is pretty much unusable unless you're seeing an ENT doctor - again, something I knew going in given my last laptop had one also, I've used an external webcam for the privacy aspect and the slightly more flattering angles in a world of zoom calls. 4. Avoid if you would be spending a lot of time using another device as well as this one. I say this because there's an extra row of keys on the left-hand side. I've got most of them re-mapped (magic y key will do it), but it does mess up your hand placement initially. It took me a few days to fully adjust and stop turning the keyboard brightness down when I meant to press Ctrl, but it feels totally natural to me now. Difficulty is if I switch to a similar sized laptop at work with a normal keyboard my hand placement is pretty messed up. Not really an issue if you occasionally use someone else's device, but I'm not sure it would be appropriate for someone who frequently flits between a couple of keyboards. Otherwise, performance is wonderful, thermals seem excellent (I'm not providing any proof for this, just anecdotally it hasn't reached a temperature capable of cooking an egg like previous laptops I've had have every time I go near the gpu). Back-mounted ports are not something I knew I wanted until I got them, and the speakers are good. Last thing to add is the photos above make it look slightly like its screaming gamer. Problem with buying higher end laptops (especially for GPU intensive things) is that you either usually have to get a workstation (super expensive) or a gaming laptop (cheaper, but screams 'I'm a gamer' which isn't ideal if you just want to take it to work). However, The RGBs are super configurable with the exception of the few seconds when the laptops booting - I have mine turned off except in a few occasions and I'd feel totally comfortable taking this to work with me.

This is another area where the 5P will be much better due to the Ryzen CPU. Forgot to mention that in my post above.

Does anyone know if this will become discounted again? Missed out on this by only a few days :(

Looking at their forums, there seem to be a huge number of previous models with battery bulge.

Davidmrb93

To me 300 fps just seems a bit overkill, I'd say 99.9% of people taking gaming that seriously wouldn't be buying a laptop lol
