What do you think of the announcements?
From the 5th To 9th June Apple will be presenting their keynote for 2023 at the Apple WWDC 2023
It is their annual biggest event and it can be streamed on the following platforms:
Rumours as always are circulating at what may or may not be announced, but I'd guess no iPhone announcement of course as they are generally released in September
Some rumours below:
iOS 17 - The upcoming iOS 17 update is expected to include a new journaling app , an improved always-on lock screen with Smart Display mode , enhanced features for the Health app (e.g. mood and emotion tracking) and provide upgrades for the wallet app . For users in the EU, Apple should also allow third-party app stores and sideloading . AirPlay and SharePlay improvements are also planned.
iPadOS 17 - iPadOS 17 aims to expand the Health app , bringing it beyond the iPhone to the iPad for the first time. It's also possible that some of iOS 17's new features , like lock screen customization and the journaling app, will make their way to the iPad .
MacOS 14 - MacOS 14 is expected to include some of the new features of iOS 17 , such as the integration with the journaling app as well as new "Where is?" functions .
WatchOS 10 - The watchOS 10 update for the Apple Watch will introduce major user interface changes , with a greater emphasis on widgets . In addition, functions from iOS 17 are expected to be integrated, such as mood and emotion tracking.
tvOS 17 - For the tvOS 17 software update for Apple TV and HomePod, there is no information about expected features yet , but a new version is to be expected.
Apple Reality Pro and xrOS - Apple is probably planning to present the long-awaited AR/VR headset at WWDC, to give developers time to build apps and experiences for the device, which is due to launch later in the year.
Key features of the AR/VR headset include:
At an estimated $3000, I won't be buying one
New MacBooks (15" MacBook Air + M3 chip):
On Twitter, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg hints that Apple may introduce new Macs at the keynote. Trade-ins for the Mac Studio, the 13" M2 MacBook Air, are to start on June 5th and the 13" M2 MacBook Pro will be accepted. A 15" MacBook Air is also expected. In addition, new 13" MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with an M3 chip are to come, which will not be available until the end of the year .
Any thoughts?

Macbook Air 15 Inch
- Three pounds and 11.5 mm thin, touted as the “thinnest 15-inch laptop to date.”
- 18 hours of battery life.
- Six speakers.
Mac Studio
- Roughly three times as tall as a Mac Mini.
- The main difference is that the new chip unlocks new performances.
- When it comes to the neural engine, it is 40% faster.
- Video bandwidth has been increased, which means that you can connect 8K display at a fast refresh rate.
Mac Pro
- Surprise announcement about the Apple Silicon–powered desktop and rack-mounted Mac Pro workstation.
M2 Ultra
- With Ultra, the M2 version is also essentially two M1 Max dies fused into a single package.
- It is built using 5 nm technology and featuring 134 billion transistors and will feature 24 CPU cores, up to 76 GPU cores (there’s also a 60-core option) and a 32-core Neural Engine. The CPU consists of 16 next-gen high-performance cores and eight high-efficiency cores.
- One major change is that the M2 Ultra supports up to 192 GB of unified memory, backed by 800 GB of memory bandwidth.
New Features
- A new AirDrop feature called NameDrop lets you easily and seamlessly share your phone number, and even photos, with another person. Here’s how it works: When you bring your phones close together, you can choose to share your phone number and email address. You can use NameDrop with an iPhone and an Apple Watch too.
- Apple is introducing a new journaling app simply called Journal. Using on-device machine learning, the iPhone creates personalized suggestions around your photos, activities, location, music, workouts, etc. Developers can take advantage of Journal and provide prompt suggestions from third-party app data.
- Now over to Standby, which is a new full-screen experience for your nightstand. When you put your phone down at night, you can see the time on your phone or an alarm or you can personalize what’s on the display. Standby also helps you use your iPhone as a dynamic photo slideshow device to show some of your best shots and refresh them regularly. At the office, Standby can turn your iPhone into a calendar with your upcoming events.
- In terms of autocorrect, Apple has upgraded its autocorrect, now powered by an AI model that can more accurately predict the next words and phrases you might use. Over time, it’ll personalize, learning your most frequently used words — including swear words.
- One of the more unexpected additions from iOS 17: Apple is dropping the “hey” from “Hey Siri.”
Apple Messages
- Notable tweaks: ability to view transcribed voice messages and an interface change that hides away iMessage apps.
- New feature: the safety-focused “Check In” option that will allow iPhone users to let their friends and family know they got home safely — or where they were last.
- Also, there is a faster and more convenient search experience and the ability to view a transcription of voice messages.
iPad OS and new iPad features
- Users will be able to see their health data, such as electrocardiogram results, on a larger screen.
- Privacy: Health data is securely synced, so you can see your health information from your iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, as well as compatible third-party apps and devices all in one place.
- For developers, HealthKit is coming to iPad, opening up new ways to build health and fitness experiences for the devices.
- Users will have more real estate when it comes to viewing health metrics, prescriptions, lab tests and more
- Also, Apple is adding Live Collaboration to improve the experience of working with PDFs. Using machine learning technology, the iPad OS 17 can identify fields in a PDF so that you can fill them out quickly — that’s big for people who don’t have easy access to Adobe Acrobat. This also functions with photos of documents that you scan onto your iPad.
Mac OS 14 Sonoma
- What’s new: The desktop is getting interactive widgets and there is a game mode designed to limit distractions amid a growing selection of silicon titles.
- What else: In a nod to all of the teleconferencing we do, there is a new overlay feature that cuts out the speaker, playing them in front of a dynamic background. There are new effects like fireworks as well.
Vision Pro AR Headset (Nice and cheap at $3499) Read More about this here credit @Pete
- The hardware utilizes a new feature called “Eyesight,” which uses a front-facing display to reveal your eyes to other people in the room (compensating for the opaque visor. While the product is, indeed, mixed reality (owing to the need for on-board passthrough), the company seems disinterested in engaging with the virtual reality conversation.
- Interestingly, it does appear to be a work-first device focused on things like email rather than gaming. In fact, users can actually bring a version of their Mac desktop over, projected out in front of them.
- Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Disney+ will be available on the tech giant’s new Apple Vision Pro at launch.
- There is now VisionOS, the newest operating system specifically for the Vision Pro.
WatchOS 10
- This includes an updated user interface with a renewed focus on widgets, plus refreshed first-party apps and other new features.
- Why is the user interface part important? The user interface for Apple Watch hasn’t seen a sizable update in many years, and a number of top third-party apps have pulled out of the Apple Watch App Store in recent years.
- To access the new watchOS 10 widgets, you can simply turn the Digital Crown. Previously, pressing the Digital Crown on the side of the Apple Watch would take you to the home screen.
- Look out for a refresh of some of the core apps, including World Clock.
And that's about it, some other gubbins like Facetime on Apple TV, and new user experience improvements for the Airpods

sorted bya nice functional design with an OS that integrates well with day to day activities
android perfects Ie Samsung worrying about their 200x zoom. Who are they spying on lmao.
your average user is using it mostly social browsing and camera occasionally
give me a fast phone, nice screen and I’ll pay the price
its just unfortunate 1k is not a lot of money in 2023
Looks like DayOne is about to get Sherlocked. As a user of several years, and I guess zero way to import data into the new Apple app, hopefully it can continue despite this. (edited)
I like the idea of the vision pro, I've tried ALOT of VR devices, they all make me throw up because of the low refresh rates - this is why (the otherwise excellent) PSVR2 sucks
OLED suffers the same issue as any sample and hold tech- motion blur at lower refresh rates.... you can (kind of) get away with 120 hz on a tv.
When apple says its revolutionary, is it? is it though
if its 120 hz, it will just cause constant hurling from a huge percentage of people
but- this has been solved for, it was solved by dyac+ and its recently been solved by ULMB2 from Nvidia- 360 hz displays with a perfect black frame insertion method- that would make VR usable for over 90% of the population. ULMB2 is smoother than CRTs
you have to have super high refresh rates on VR. IF they get the motion wrong, everything else fails.
Are you serious?
Genuinely loved the company when Jobs reinvented them. They actually pushed for innovation. These days they're all about rebranding 5 year old features as their own inventions and charging more money for removing more of your screen in exchange for gimmicks.
I genuinely hope that once Tim Bean Counter disappears with his billions that the next CEO actually has a forward thinking mindset as opposed to one that solely focuses on farming as many Sheeple as possible.
I wonder if they'll finally get notifications right with the 17th attempt at iOS? Or are most users generally satisfied with missing important notifications in favour of a 3d cat wallpaper with a clock behind it?
For the sake of balance, the decision to move mobile chips into the desktop space has been amazing for competition. AMD are going all in by the looks of it, Intel still don't care but pretend to, and Nvidia are looking very likely to launch a new CPU soon.
You can get an M1 Mac Mini on eBay for £350 which is ridiculously good value, which you still cannot beat in regards to mini PCs.
This has the potential to replace any screen in the home, including the TV.
Looks great!
This has a clearer path to market than other stuff big bad tech companies are focusing on. They executed well on vision vs everything else out there. Crypto / AI are messy in comparison. (edited)
Price -----
Prices will get lower eventually. 3K won't be the standard. I feel this headset is more for those who have the money to just buy tech like this, and developers. 3k is alot of money for a headset, but rightfully.. There is nothing like this headset out on the market right now. In Apple's eco system. Other companies have tried to work with Apple but failed because of the iPhone or OS locked system. So iPhone's can't work well with a AR Glasses setup. Eventually, this will need to get cheaper. But it's a computer as well. So maybe 2K in the upcoming years. I can't see it getting cheaper than that. Not unless they cut back on features.
Features ---
Some Youtuber reviews / Journalists so far are in agreement that this is something that they have never experienced before. There is NOTHING on the market right now that is like this. The features, and feel of this headset. The 4K displays are apparently incredible, and one talked about "avatar movie clip in 3d" . Saying it was amazing. So it's clear Apple will gear up media companies like Disney / Youtube and maybe Film companies to make this headset a Cinema experience. But Media content right now is the push at the moment. No video games right now.
Computer or need a phone?? ----
Headset has it's own OS. But you can pair with a Macbook / iPad or iPhone. Which is something I would really like to have with my work Macbook. I would love that experience!.. But for 3K??... Not right now. Not for work. But being user friendly like "Looking" at your Macbook to pair is really intuitive, and is great to see.
What this means for future headsets-----
Apple is focusing this headset on Media content - Films / TV Shows / AR Video content. Demo showing a Dinosaur moving around in your room. AR content like that! Way I see things with Media content is it's changing.. With Cineworld at risk of closing down.. I see Cinema's slowly dying. Everything is becoming more and more expensive. So Cinema's are not getting the kind of revenue they used too years ago. Before COVID. New Movies will be avaliblie on Movie Apps like Apple / Amazon / Sky for a Cinema ticket price etc. Already happening, but with Cinema's slowly closing.. Where will new movies play on!?
Way i see things going is like Apple. This technology will get better and more immersive. With multiple screens for sports, watch movies, maybe play games or cast a screen to play console games. One Youtuber commented on watching a basketball game on court side. 20$, and watching it on the headset. There is a market for that. If the picture quality is that immersive. I feel this headset will change the VR / AR market next year! But the Price is always going to be a big problem...
Final thoughts
For now, 3.5K is too expensive.. I want more details, and I want to try it for myself before blindly buying.. There will be those... that will just go ahead and buy it.. and I for one will be very jealous of that lol. US launch first, then more to follow. Shows that Apple are being very cautious about this new product launching. Could be production from China is a key problem here, and challenges to look at.
But overall I'm excited for this new product. When the device has been on the market for about a year? I will consider buying this headset. But not right now.
Meta Quest 3 for £500 is likely going to be my new headset this year. (edited)
Well not directly into Apple, the Vanguard US Equity Index for which Apple makes up 7.2%, along with Amazon, MS etc. Currently my pension has a total gain of 20%.
Joking aside who on earth is going to spend £3K just to look a complete weirdo when they are using the headset if anybody else is around.
Just impressed at the vision and journey they are going to go though. They are clear about the big issues and what makes it great. Nice change from the vagueness, smoke and mirrors of AI. (edited)
Videodrome, here we come
The recent hardware is compatible (Bluetooth 5.2+) it just needs the software to catch up.
Apple were well ahead of the game, accessibility wise, a decade ago. Now they’re resting on their laurels. Google and Amazon are now taking the lead.
I refuse to buy any more apple products until this gets sorted. It’s really not that difficult, apple! (edited)
The disappointment is about how poor the software updates announced at a "developers" conference were. I guess the rumors were true and Apple really did pull most of the engineers from their respective OS teams in order to work on the headset.
Headset aside, they're very much in danger of falling far behind in many areas. Announcing more iMessage feature that only teens living in a backwards country actually use is pathetic. Same with the airdrop gunk.
Only notable feature I can recall is the dedicated gaming mode on MacOS, but as it got so little screen time I'm going to assume it's just another half baked attempt by apple. I really hope I'm wrong though, as if Apple bothered to take gaming seriously with their M chips they could potentially take a chunk of the market.
Just buddy up with Mr Newell and implement Proton please?
Also £7k for the Mac Pro is hilarious, if only because it's painfully obvious that they priced it this way so that they can kill it in favour of the Mac studio due to "lackluster" sales. Apple manufactured obsolescence once again, but hopefully it pleases the 5 people who actually wanted a new Mac Pro.
Personally I feel this device will be cool to try for half an hour but wouldn’t be great for a real workflow besides consuming media.
I've tried watching 3D movies on my Oculus Rift. It's a painful process, involving trying out lots of programs that claim to do it, and then figuring out where to drop the downloaded movies (which are generally low quality side-by-side renderings). If/when it eventually works, it's crap. No doubt on Apple you'll pay a large fee on Apple TV+ and then it will just work, beautifully.
Buy what phone you like and let others do the same. Some like Android and some like iOS. Both have their pros and cons.
Quest is an ancient toy in comparison to this..it is infact revolutionary.price reflects that.and is outside most people’s price range.
